12oz bottle received in trade with tanger. Thanks. Poured into a Portsmouth goblet.
A - Pours a slightly hazy, dark amber tinged with red highlights. Thin, almost non-existent head, only a thin collar around the glass. No lacing.
S - Smells spicy and sweet with lots of sour cherries. Not detecting any hop presence...very little malt too. The fruit is dominant here.
T - Has a strong belgian character. Cherries pop out in the forefront with some cloves in the background. Quite malty - sweet, a touch of caramel. Bottle says it is brewed with honey, but I'm not picking up any honey character. Some phenolics/higher alcohol definitely present and add to the flavor.
M - Thick, full bodied. Cherry coats the mouth fully and lingers. Carbonation is light, just barely alive...works here though.
D - Definitely a sipper at 11%. Alcohol makes its presence known. Very malty with lots of belgian flavors and tons of cherry. Very good winter beer for finishing off a night in front of the fire.
