Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

This year’s Philly Beer Week Beer, Brotherly Suds Volume 3, was created collectively by brewers from Iron Hill Brewing, Sly Fox Brewing, Stoudt’s Brewing, Tröegs Brewing, Victory Brewing and Yards Brewing, and brewed at Tröegs Brewery in Hershey. Via a flurry of emails, this collective cobbled together a Vienna Red Lager recipe that incorporates rye, American hops, and Kolsch yeast. By combining the spicy rye along with Centennial hops and subtle fruity flavors of the Kolsch yeast, hints of cream sickle shine through as this pungent American hop intertwines with a rich mix of barley. At 5.2% ABV and 40 IBU, Scratch #67 is a testament to team work and impeccable taste! Enjoy!

Served on tap in a pint glass at the Drafting Room

A- pours cloudy amber with a one finger white head. Unremarkable

S- nice aroma laden with citrus

T- heavy rye flavor, mild bit of grassy hops as well

M- medium bodied

O- didn't really jump out at me much in comparison to other beers with rye, but it was pretty good...just nothing special

I had this on tap at the tasting room in Hershey, PA.

A brilliant copper shade with great clarity and thick almond shaded head with ultra fine bead and lace sticks and holds with very good retention. The smell is spiced with some floral hop notes and caramel malt ester with gentle bready tinge and nice dried fruit aroma with subtle toasted grain w/ mild vanilla element.
The feel is very dry up front with mild spice texture from the hops with moderately high carbonation with semi-sweet middle and gentle spice carrying on into a relatively earthy and dry finish w/ gassy effect and medium bodied overall feel.

The flavor is slightly toasted and nutty with granola and almond tinges with a hint of caramel and pine from the hops with some rye toasted graininess and slight accent of biscuit in the flavor. The clean lager yeast acts as a foil for the rye and combination of hop tastes which do not add an exhorbitant amount of bitterness, yet do seem to lean away from balanced. The slight piney/toasted caramel blend is very pleasant. I give this a higher mouthfeel than overall score because it refreshes, yet it doesn't necessarily seem to be the best style-wise. It is more hoppy than your average lager but the rye helps out by taming the agressive hopping slightly and gives a clean dry impression adding to the overall drinkability for me.

Served on-tap at the brewery.

A - Pours clear amber brown with a nice one finger tall white head leaving small rings of lace down most of the glass.

S - Smells of mildly toasted grains, caramel sweetness, toffee, light citric fruit and some nice grassy hop bitterness. Pretty consistent nose throughout the course of the glass.

T - Starts off with a good bit of caramel and toffee sweetness slowly giving way to hints of chewy rye bread, bit of fresh fruit, grassy citric hops and a tiny bit of spice. Finish is a little chewy with some lingering sweetness, clinging to the palate long after consumption.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Kinda sweet initially growing a little grainy toward the end of the glass but overall a good feel.

O - Not too shabby. I haven't had too many Vienna Lagers but this one was very nice. I wouldn't turn down another one in the future.

On-tap at the brewery.

A: The Vienna lager sports a full amber color, think the rind of a loaf of bread, orange and brown amber with an emphasis on the darker side. Still clear, the lager has a stream of bubbles running through it. And head? Why there isn't much to speak of.

S: The nose is, like the whole package in general, is meatier. Mildly toasted breads and ample caramel define the nose, a sweetness adding to the body. Rye adds a light caraway aroma, spicy with anise notes, and a citrusy hoppiness rings through in the finish. The melange of bready aromas sets the stage nicely.

T: The maltiness grabs hold immediately, bringing caramel, toast and subtle rye cascading across my palate. The caramel and toast last longer but the initial flourish of rye packs the most flavor. Grassy hops, citrus included, come through mid sip but not linger until the finish. In between, the malts come back with more breadiness. The finish is sweet, mostly caramel, with an occasional burst of hops.

M: The malt blend is nice, just enough caraway spiciness to hit the right spot. A nice choice for the collab brew this year.

Draft offering at the Troegs taproom. The brew appears a clear amber color with a tan cap that holds with awesome powers of retention. A full curtain of lacing effect sticks to the glass.

The aroma is floral with hop character minorly reminescent of dried fruits and mixed in with a bit of mineral inclusion. Some herbal touch and caramel to toffee grain sweetness pokes through. Overall not a bright smelling brew but it is fairly clean and enjoyable.

The flavor is toasty with a bready grain inclusion and mild supporting fruit aspect from a combination of alcohol esters coupled with hops. The toasty aftetaste has a hint of buttery quality keeping this from being "flawless."

Overall it is a fine example of the style with a medium body. It boasts a crisp, light level of carbonation that is clean and very easy drinking.

A - Served with a red-tinted, copper body that had some clarity to it...the head was white and stood two fingers tall...nice retention and lacing

S - There are toasted malts that give off a dose of caramel sweetness as well as a bready aroma...lingering citrus is in the background

T - First sip brings out the grain bill of the beer...toasted and flavors of caramel stand out...the middle of the beer also has a big grainy presence, but I'm not getting too much rye...if anything, it's very subtle...in the finish there is a nice citrus flavor that pops up...it's not bitter, it's not overpowering, it's just a nice surprise

M - Medium bodied...a little too light on the flavors...grainy with a hint of citrus

O - I believe I enjoyed this one the best out of the three new Scratch beers at the Brewery...it was easy drinking, the flavors held up, and those hops came through in the finish

Created collectively by brewers from Iron Hill Brewing, Sly Fox Brewing, Stoudt's Brewing, Tröegs Brewing, Victory Brewing and Yards Brewing...

Pours a nice copper tinted amber, thin cap of dense white head, limited retention. Scent leads with lightly caramelized malts, faint toasted grain, some hints of bright citrus zest, minerally. Taste follows scent, lightly fruity with a splash of citrus zest, still has light caramel and toasted notes. Clean on the palate, moderate carbonation. A nice, easy drinking brew.
