For Scratch #71, we’re revisiting the blissful world of white ales. This beer typically features a blend of wheat and barley along with spices and yeast to create a refreshing and complex flavor. With a dense haze from the red wheat and a foamy white head, Scratch #71 incorporates tartness and a delicate orange aroma that complements the spices and the LaChouffe yeast. The finish is dry and crisp.

Pours a deep golden yellow with a hint of opacity. Good head at pour disappates to a thin layer on top. Smell is light and spicy - corriander and a hint of citrus. Refreshing up front trails to spices and citrus on the finish. For a witbier it has a dry finish and slight pepper. Good balance of light and body.

Pleasant wit, bottle from from Capone’s restaurant. A good spice mix made this tasty and drinkable. Good above average mouthfeel. Good choice of spices including star anise, cinammon, and white pepper. Lasting head. A Belgian styled, with some American ingenuity.

First review with the expanded ratings amounts.
I'm a big fan of Troegs Scratch Series and this is another good beer.
The color is on the lighter side of yellow and hazy.
Not so much aroma. What is there is a sweet wheat beer smell.
Taste is right on for a wit, the banana in the background and the spices being the dominant flavor.
Very light and refreshing. As with most of the scratch beer I wish they would return but they usually don't

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance: The beer pours a clear golden color with just under a half finger of thick, creamy white head. The head fades to a thick ring around the glass.

Smell: Light with a nice sweet component from the malt. I'm getting some bright citrus fruit along with a Belgian yeast component. The spices are quite nice with the yeast.

Taste: The spices bring it strong here. I'm getting a coriander note here that goes well with the Belgian yeast. The spice flavor might be a bit too dominant. Just a hint of sweetness and banana with a spicy finish.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: The spice profile could have been a bit more refined, but I still liked the beer. I'd have more if they made this a normal offering.

I poured this into a perfect pint, it has a nice golden color body with a 1/2" white head that lays down to a thin lace. The aroma has some coriander and lemon hints to it. the taste consiste of some peppery and lemon notes and some coriander on the middle of the tongue. The mouth feel is really nice and carbonated really well. Overall this is a really good witbier.

Cloudy light gold in color with a rich creamy white head. Head sticks around for a good while. Not exactly "white" enough to earn the "5" but still a very attractive beer!

Aroma is of delicate spices, some traditional (curacao and coriander) and some not quite so traditional (white sage maybe?). Really appetizing aroma.

Flavor is very gentle and drinkable. Light spices...more exotic and interesting than most Belgian Wits that I have had before. Clean middle that accentuates the wheat and a pleasant aftertaste. Spices in the exhale, wheat up front. Delicious!

Very creamy texture. PERFECT amount of carbonation. Just velvety...a great example of the style!

This beer renewed my interest in Belgian Wits. It was unique enough, and it was close enough to the original style that it hit all the right marks (with the minor exception of not being very "white").

Picked up a couple of these scratch beers at the House of 1,000 for 3 bucks each. Kind of excited since I never had a witbier from Troegs,

A - Damn fine sticky half inch of head with stellar lacing. Color is as expected a light yet hazy bright yellow. Kept the sediment in the bottle...

S - Very lively and peppery with lemon and coriander highlighting. Hope it's not too yeast forward.

T - Again very vibrant and peppery with lemon leading mid palate and a clean spicy finish. Hops are subdued and yeast is not cloying. Quite good.

M - Best part of the beer it clocks in over 5% but it drinks with a light body.

Overall I like this scratch beer not only because it's crafted well but because it isn't too sour from lemon or too cloying with chalky yeasts. Well done guys!
