Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Another interpretation of the Session IPA style, Scratch #113 is an exercise in minimalism. Two American hop varieties. One type of malted barley. Our house ale yeast. While this session-strength IPA may not sound like a lot on paper, it nonetheless packs maximum aroma and flavor. The one-two punch of Cascade and Centennial hops delivers a fresh citrus-forward aroma and a clean, bitter grapefruit finish. The lone malt variety (Munich) provides a sweet, malty canvas to showcase the simplistic yet artful brush strokes of the hops, allowing the hop character to really shine through. One sip definitely deserves another. At only 4% ABV, you can afford to kick back and enjoy a few of these in one sitting. Cheers!

This is a very good beer. The color was a golden yellow. The aroma was was very hoppy. This beer was an awesome IPA and is totally different from the Perpitual IPA. It was available for purchase as a single bottle, Six Pack and a case. The price is a little high but worth it.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours light copper, yellow on bottom. Thick 1/2 inch of white foam. Strong earthy pine nose. Taste is light and oily, slick malt, which fades a light bitter into a firm finish. Smooth, tasty, and a real flavorful bitter.

First and foremost, this is an American IPA not an English IPA, and it is NOT available in bottles as it is draft / growler only...

Served on-tap at the brewery.

A - Pours sunkist orange with a nice one finger tall white head, dissipating down to a ring around the edge, leaving little to no lace down the glass. Goes dead flat about about then minutes.

S - Smells of candied oranges, mango and other tropical fruit, pungent citric hops and a bit of sugary sweetness. This one is all about the fruit.

T - Starts off with the oranges and other tropical fruit but it gives way quickly to the citric hop bitterness and the light sweetness. Finish is mostly clean with only a little bit of bitterness lingering on the palate. It is very light, almost pale ale territory.

M - Light body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, hoppy feel going a touch watery toward the end of the glass.

O - Another nice session IPA. The fruity aromas are intense while the taste is more balanced. The body could use a bump up but all things considered I would have no trouble polishing off a few of these.

Draft offering at Als of Hampden during the Troegs event a few months back. Review from notes: the brew appears a hazed copper color with a thin white film. A swirl releases a yellow stained finger that fades fast.

The aroma includes citrus rind, herbs grass and sulfur. A minor floral and fruit component also comes out with more whiffs.

The taste includes some mild pine resin, lightly dank, herbal, grassy, ribdy, pulp-like and zesty. A sort of hop spritzer with little to no maltiness or alcohol inclusion.

A very light bodied brew with a mild touch of carbonation. This is very watery feeling but has a nice nose. I could see drinking lots of this as it is easy drinking but it is mutually lackluster and not satisfying.

Tasted at the brewery and in growler aftewards, multiple times with gladness.

The color is a bright orange amber, virtually translucent, with a solid off-white head that falls fairly fast...but leaves pacthes of lacing on an IPA glass.
Spruce wafts up alongside a display of candy store fruit slices--orange is strongest with pineapple, some mango and hints of lime. Sugar is carried with a soft note of banana and it's clear that a bit of the sweetness will come in hop oils, due to a note of funk. It's not rich or terribly complex, but very pleasant.
The flavor experience begins with oranges, cider spiced--then hop bitters rise fast and fall away just as quickly to allow sweetness with malt to show through. It's thin at this point, with a short finish that hints at the bite of hops again.
The fairly strong carbonation stands out of proportion to the light body, but the buzz isn't wholly unwelcome. It's smooth, but watery--contributes to its shortness, but fits with being sessionable.
This beer is easy to drink as it should be, and versatile with both spicy and basic eats. Not remarkable, but lots of foreplay to enjoy with each easy gulp.
