From 06/02/12 notes.

a - Pours a deep amber red color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of caramel malts, pine hops, and fruity malts. Not bad but a little weak.

t - Tastes of caramel malts, fruity malts, citrus hops, pale malts. Very malty, but nice.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a decent amber ale; thought it was an IPA but listed here as a red ale, which makes more sense. Either way a pretty average red ale; would probably pass next time.

First had: on tap at Capone's, Norristown, PA

Poured a dark, reddish brown, with a nice finger of white head, that retained well and left some great lacing. Toasted malt aroma with some pine and earth in there. Basic red-ale-maltiness in the taste, with pine notes, and some hop bitterness coming through, finishing dry with a slightly harsh aftertaste. Medium bodied, and pretty drinkable.

Manayunk brews are definitely improving.

On tap at the brewery poured into pint glass. Aroma of hops, pine, rye, and malt. Poured copper/amber in color with a large, creamy, dense, beige head that lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is heavily bitter; seems like a lot more than 50IBUs. Tastes of malt, hops, pine, resin, and rye. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, rye, and resin finish is dry. The ABV is well-hidden.

On-tap at Varga in Philadelphia.

Pours a light amber color with a one-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of sweet caramel malts with large amounts of pine and herbal hop aromas. Also present are hints of citrus hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though the hops are more restrained in the flavor profile. Caramel and pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by solid amounts of pine hops. Midway through the sip the pine influence subsides a bit and moderate amounts of citrus and lighter amounts of leafy hop flavors work their way into things. The hops carry through to a solidly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall I wasn't a huge fan of this beer but the nose was very nice. Other than that everything seemed just good enough, with a few tweaks this could be a very nice beverage. Still, as it is now it's worth a shot.

Wow...I'm surprise at the other ratings of this beer.
Appears a dense, dark crimson with a fluffy off white cap that slowly fades into a collar. Tubular lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of distinct fresh herbs, citrus peel, and a feline urine that Ive smelled in many an IPA...Nugget and Amarillo?
Taste is of the aromas with a malty blast followed by a hoppy herb bomb that takes over. A hop lovers fantasy.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, tangy, malty, and balanced with bitters.

32oz growler from Whole Foods into a glass a few times after work. I was thinking this was a IPA but apparently it's a red.

Phanatic is a reddish marroon light beown color with a light brown head that reaches almost an inch before settling down into a sparse cap, and loose stringy lace.

Smells on the malty side with some caramel sweetness with earthy hops and some pine, I guess more than one hop variety was used. The hops for sure take a back seat to the malts in this.

Tasting this further affirms to me that most of Manyunk's offerings taste the same, especially in this color spectrum. It has to be the yeast because this tastes just like the last five beers i've had from them. In short it taste's like Manyunk Brewing Company beer with caramel malt candy, yunk yeast and earthy hops

Feel is mediumish and not that offensive, just a touch of bitterness under the slick malt build. It's carbed up nice with bubbles and a small sensation to the tounge. This is not offensive beer but not one i'll be going back to. I like local beer so I'm always up for a new Manyunk offering, but for god's sake, change up your yeast a bit, eh.

On tap at Capone's the other day.

The beer pours a fairly darkish amber color with good head retention and lacing. Nose is fairly perfumy, with pepper, light pine and a touch of sweet malt. The beer smells pretty nice, which is why I was bit disappointed with the flavor profile. The beer was a bit simple and one dimensional, with candy flavored malt and light hoppiness in the finish. The beer was definitely a bit sweeter and maltier then I was hoping, with the malty sweetness dominating the flavor profile. Also, there's some noticeable alcohol in the finish, which detracts from this beers drinkability. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and I'd rate this beers drinkability as fair.

Mehhh... another so-so East Coast IPA (at least that's how it's described at Capone's). Just don't see the attraction.

Served in a standard shaker glass. This is an Imperial amber ale with fresh hops. Appears a hazed rich copper/crimson color with about a finger of light rust colored foam. Nice lacing and head retention. Very fresh aromas and flavors with notes of both red and white grapefruit juice, mint, lime, tangerines, sweet rolls, and a healthy dose of caramelized malt to pull it together. Slightly slick mouthfeel with decent carbonation and a pleasantly bitter finish. This ranks up there as one of the best I've had from these guys. Head on over and check this one out while it's still on.
