On cask at Eli Cannon's Tap Room.
Dark brown and opaque with a low frothy head that recedes quickly. Low aroma of chocolate and coffee. No sign of what lurks within. Flavor is hard-edged chipotle spice, sharp on the tongue upfront, followed quickly by cocoa and dark malt. Not roasty, low bitterness, but the chipotle may be pushing that back. Particulate bits of pepper skin lay on the tongue and stick to the back of the throat, which detracts for me. Spice is assertive, if you can't handle much spice, it may be too much. The tongue gets numb to it eventually and it evens out. Mouthfeel is thin and watery, even for a cask ale. A bit too spicy and slightly out of balance, and could use more body for my tastes, but hats off to the Hooker crew for pushing the envelope and putting some edgey brashness on this one.
