I'm not exactly sure how this got into my fridge. I don't remember buying it, so it must have snuck in with another hooker six pack that I bought. I generally am not much of a "golden ale" kind of guy. Maybe I thought I was getting a bottle of golden lager...?? At any rate, it's a good chance to try it.
Pours a light orangish gold. At first I thought it was going to be very clear, but there's a cold haze in there - probably from the low temp ale fermentation. Very little head to speak of except for a white ring around the edge of the glass.
Ale yeast is predominant in the nose, with a slight buttery essense. Malt with very little hop presence. Not the greatest nose.
Actually a very good malty start that evens out nicely in the mouth with a floral, yeasty back. There's a little bit of a vegetable thing going on here, too- almost like a lager yeast was involved. It lacks just a bit of fullness in the middle when it comes to flavor - this is a "start!...wait, wait... finish!" beer. All the same, very refreshing and light.
Mouthfeel is fairly standard for a lighter american ale. A little creamy.
Overall I like this quite a bit. A good session / lawnmower beer for sure. Too bad it's starting to get cold here in MA. I could have used this one in August.
