12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip

A- Yellow gold, hazy, lots of yeast chunks suspended in the body. Thin white head leaves some good lacing around the glass.

S- Fragrant, floral ( a bit of a perfume scent), lemongrass, and a mild sweet bread malt.

T- Sweet, wheaty, and spicy. Some citrus. All mild and light. Refreshing.

M- Tingle of carbonation, light. A bit of viscosity, and a subtle spicy finish.

O- Pretty good brew. It doesn’t feel the best, but the aroma is very nice, and flavor is good and refreshing.

Appearance: A cloudy yellow, with a snow-white head that positively glitters in the light. The bubbles are tight and tiny at first, then relax to form round, uniform beads. A truly beautiful beer.

Smell: Remarkably floral notes mix well with a summery pineapple and apricot punch. A bready foundation comes through as the beer warms.

Taste: While bitterness is absent, there is a strong floral hop taste that makes me feel as if I'm drinking honeysuckle perfume. The pineapple that I was looking forward to after smelling the beer is, unfortunately, nowhere to be found, and the apricot fades into a quick spritz of lemon. Fortunately, a light clove-like flavor brings a bit of welcome complexity. Although the taste is altogether enjoyable in spite of the aforementioned disappointments, it's also strangely faint, as if a small group of ghostly esters is just floating across the top of the glass.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel and medium-high carbonation, with a pleasant effervescent quality.

Overall: Not how I remembered this beer. I remember thinking it was absolutely lovely...but that was years ago. The floral character is fascinating, but the lemon soda water flavor that goes along with it is not. I could smell and gaze at this beer all day, but I would rather taste another.

11.2oz bottle into tulip @38F

A: pours straw with a thin, brief white head

S: green grass, citrus, floral notes, apricot, pear, apple

T: same as smell, with a delicate hoppy-fruity finish

M: light-bodied with medium carb, little malt and a great dry/lightly bitter finish

O: Complex, well balanced and delicious! It’s like wine in beer’s clothing. It’s like drinking in the most refined aspects of a garden, orchard and wheat field all togther. I love it, and it’s a definite do-over. Wow.

Enjoyed 12oz bottle out of a porter glass.

A: Pours a cloudy orange with a slight white head that disappears quickly into no lace or trail.

S: Not a huge nose here – slightly citrus and hoppy.

T: Crisp and tart wheat flavor with a middle citrus hop middle and finishes on the dry side of tangy.

M: Medium body and minimal carbonation.

O: Interesting brew – worthy of a try.

Poured from bottle into tulip for hitachino bottle tasting fest 2013. Not much head golden haze color. Spicy yeast with a lager like aroma... Easy wheaty malts and spicey peppery notes. Clean and crispand sligtly citrus. Nice brew and easy to drink...

Appearance- Pours up a fair amount of head which has some retention and a few traces of lacing. The head is almost cotton white but has a slight hint of yellow. The body is a hazy pale golden straw which turns an orange yellow when held up to the light. Lots of floaties.

Nose- Initially, pretty subtle. The most dominant note I get is a clean lemon with a hint of spiciness. Obligatory coriander and a whiff of orange peel. Some slight funkiness from the orange peel noticed.

Taste- The nose, so far, is very much represented in the flavor profile and is, thankfully, stronger than the nose but not by much. Clean lemon, coriander, and orange peel as well. Orange peel mostly on the finish matched with a slight woody bitterness. Notes of regular orange as well. I would prefer this to be a bit spicier but perhaps it has not opened up enough. Some spicy yeast on the finish but definitely not as much as other wits I've had. The citrus elements are very nice though.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied that feels fuller because of slight pulp from the floaties. Nice zip of carbonation.

Drinkability- Very easygoing. Crisp and refreshing. Perfect beer for a summer's day. At 5 bucks a pop, I probably wouldn't buy again though.

Overall- A good beer, I only wish it represented the style better. It would be closer to a 4 if it were a little spicier but right now, it's closer to a 3.75.

A: Clouded straw with a dissipating white head.

S: Floral with notes of coriander, orange squash and nutmeg.

T: Oh, nice and bitter. What a surprise. Getting the infused nutmeg at the back. Sharp and tart with an orange squash flavour. Very little coriander, unlike from what I was getting from the nose. Not bready but still has a malt base of sorts. Has a very slight bacon/meat flavour.

O: Hoegaarden and Blue Moon put me off witbier for years but a mate bought one of these for me and I've found it very refreshing.

Hazy yellow color with a two finger head with good retention.
Aroma of flowers, citrus and a hint of bile (?).
Very different and original taste, flavor of expensive white wine. Very acid and with an elegant sourness and some floral and herbal hops. Notes of lemon, orange peel and condiments. Very dry aftertaste with a residual citrus lemon note.
Medium body with good effervescent carbonation.
This was a quite pleasant surprise, very original and refreshing. Differs from Belgian wittier given its sourness and the predominant green grapes taste. You got to try it.

Poured from a standard pressure-cap bottle into a semi-conic glass in high elevation Kalispell, Mont. Best-by Dec. 5, 2013 (I think). Reviewed live.

A- One-finger white creamy head with relatively rapidly eroding retention. Hangs around as thin, clear lacing and white floaters. Golden color with high clarity and active carbonation. Excellent looking witbier.

S- I'm getting the wheat, the coriander, some citrusy notes and some sweetness. I can;t quite pinpoint what citrus I'm smelling, but it's certainly a fruity, zesty little beer. Attractive aroma.

T- Has the citrus that it should, but the spices and underlying Belgian-style yeasts keep it earth and less dramatic. Has good flavor, not incredibly detailed, but good.

M- Medium bodied, slightly creamy with a grainy, wet finish.

O- One of the best Wits I have had. Not great, but I'm not a big fan of the style.

Bottle poured into a goblet at a HUB in Kichijoji, Tokyo.

A: Very cloudy and light colored, not much of a head.

S: Citrus, hops, orange, slight banana, malts.

T: Very interesting, starts out with heavy citrus/floral favors, followed a a fairly strong hop bite, and finishes with malts and something very tasty that I couldn't quite place possible the coriander.

M: Creamy and a slight hop burn.

O: Great beer, very interesting tastes that I don't usually run into. A great change of pace from your everyday American beers.

Dull yellow glow with 2 fingers of bright white head. Not nearly as much head as one would expect from a wit. lots of ginger and nutty yeast on the nose, dry grain husks, and a bit of citrus fruit.

Creamy body with initial sweetness on the tip of the tongue. Bright fizziness throughout, super super dry wit. lots of ginger with other spicey flavor including clove. Subtle orange flavors with dry grains, faint tart flavor along the mid palate cut but the most delicate hop balance. Finishes dry and smooth. A really good and unique wit, never had one like it before with layers of complex flavors that blend together really well. Yeast imparts a lot to the flavor but only by complimenting the already existing ones in the beer.

a little pricey but damn good and super unique.

Wow. We have here a pale-looking appearance, yet pretty golden for a Witbier, hazy with a white, creamy neck. The aroma emanates oranges, honey, coriander seeds, peper and herbs (more of those than the similarly-wonderful Allagash White).

The flavor brings up the pepper, an expressive orange juice (one of the ingredients here), and a little bit of honey. The body is light, super-refreshing, with a great carbonation. Amazing, wonderful Witbier.

This was a great beer that had a 1 finger head that poured into a pint with good lacing.

Smell was spiced nicely with sweet smells.

Taste was unique to say the least and left a pleasant after taste.

Overall this beer was a pleasant beer found on a great trip to Chicago over 6 years ago that leaves me returning to Kiuchi Brewery beers every chance I can.

650 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter.

A-slightly hazy yellow and gold with two fingers of white head. Looks pretty carbonated. Decent retention and lacing. Nothing overly interesting or strong, but whatever.

S-apples, ginger and a bit of pepper. The ginger really strikes me as it asserts itself without being cloying or overbearing.

T-ginger and pepper with light fruity sweetness.

M-light mouthfeel with effervescent carbonation. Sweetness melts on the tongue giving way to a crisp clean finish.

O-a fantastically refreshing beer. Provides just a glint of sweetness and a sassy bit of spice and pepper without overwhelming the palate. Refined, clean and delicious.

Appearance – Pours a cloudy light yellow straw color. Has a nice head that leaves a thin covering on the beer for a long time. Lacing is nice.

Smell – Coriander, ginger, and a hint of lemon zest. Very nice!

Taste – Wheat ale, lemon, ginger, and coriander.

Mouthfeel – Thin, lightly carbonated and light (not much alcohol).

Drinkability – Very easy drinking. One of the best witbeirs I’ve had!

A very good wheat beer, quite light and zesty. First note on taste is citrus, with spices, but a little bit of a soapy tinge as well. Wheat is not overwhelming.

Would buy this again if it were the same price as Hoegaarden, but since it's double the price where I am, and not easy to find, I'll pass.

Bottle pour at 38 Degrees in Alhambra, CA.

Pours a murky light yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, spices, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Appearance - Pours a hazy yellow color with an inch thick, creamy white head that dissipates after a minute. Has a very nice lacing.

Smell - Quite spicy. Light citrus with clove, coriander, and wheat.

Taste - It's pretty delicious. But it's a little too spicy for my liking.. mostly just because I have acid reflux. But it's great tasting. Citrus up front, followed clove, coriander, and white pepper. Wheat is more dominant in the finish, with a somewhat musty flavor and light bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied with very high carbonation. Too much if you ask me

Overall - This beer is really good. I wish I could have enjoyed it better (if it wasn't for my acid reflux).

I have always been a fan of Japanese beer and Belgian whites. Little did I know that I could have both in the same beer. I would highly recommend trying this beer if you have the chance and enjoy mild to medium flavored full bodied beers or are a fan of either style.

Appearance: A bright yellow color to this brew. Semi-clear but with a cloudy presence. Carbonation bubbled happily throughout enjoying the brew. Not a very significant head, just a thin layer remained on the outside of the glass.

Smell: A spiced aroma hit you right at the front of the aroma. A pleasant combination of yeast and citrus fruits on the undertones. Not an overpowering aroma, just settles in nicely while enjoying this brew.

Taste: Wow I was really surprised by this one. The front of the beer is a very pleasant light spice which transitions into an awesome orange peel wheat flavor. The brightness of the citrus mixed perfectly with the dry wheat presence. The layers of citrus keep flowing on the palette long after the brew is gone.

Mouthfeel: A perfect balance of hop dryness and overall sweetness makes this a very easy drinker. Keeps you reaching for the glass over and over.

Overall: Really happy about this brew. Good beer can be found all over the world!

This is my second taste of Kiuchi and the second winner. The ginger beer was a best of (a very limited) breed. This is also excellent. I still haven't tried the stout they were raving about, but it's in the fridge.

This one pours to look gorgeous. The thin head keeps giving, but not pumping. The aroma is a bit unique. A nice blend of things, but nothing jumps out and slaps you (it's not an American style so this is good).

The taste is a beautiful balance of malt, yeast and faintly, some hops. There is a slight fruitiness - sweetness from the combo. It is a very clean and pure tasting brew.

The aftertaste is wonderful. I wish I had five or six of these to guzzle, but for $4.99 a bottle, it is a luxury I will have to forgo. There are other less expensive representatives of the style that make more sense, but there isn't anything here I could fault outside of the price.

From Slowbeer. BB 10 2013

Pours a straw body. Fizzy one finger head, little lace.

Aromas of yeast, creamy nutmeg.

Taste is surprising for a Wit. Very very creamy and soft. Wheat, yeast, orange in the mix, as it the nutmeg, a little spice/clove.

Mouthfeel smoother than you might expect. Medium bodied.

Different altogether. A bit worried this is the best beer from Japan, tho, on BA ! Would be a good beer to get togther with fellow BAs and discuss....

aside - mrs heygeebee thought - smelt of flowers, tasted like apricot crumble... (!)

Bottle: squat little 330mL brown bottle with an interesting label. Cute owl too.

Appearance: cloudy pour with a thin-looking body and light but fine carbonation. A disappointingly minimal head with very little lacing.

Aroma: an impressive blend of quality wheats, spices and orchard fruits - apple and pear.

Taste: quite different to the usual witbier - instead of the traditional banana and cloves, this definite quality wheats similar to the nose, but with orange peel, and peppery spices. Quite a thick feel, which takes a bit to get used to.

Aftertaste: citric and pine hops linger somewhat.

Mouth feel: quite heavy - perhaps a little too much so, for a witbier. Almost gritty in feel. The fine carbonation is spot on though.

Overall: a very interesting take on the witbier- different feel and flavours. Pretty expensive, but you get what you pay for I suppose.

Pours a pale yellow and cloudy. Lots of yeast on the bottom of this bottle. Healthy white head at pour - at least a finger on 10 oz. The smell is floral and fruity - definitely citrus - I get strong citrus. Mouthfeel is a bit watery - mild carbonation. Flavor is very nice - again fruity up front and sweet on the end.
