Pleased to grab a fresh bottle in Tokyo. Bottled < 1 month ago.

A - Cloudy and opaque yellow hue. Good carbonation with a quality head which receded promptly.

S - Lemon peel, citrus, pale malts and a pinch of nutmeg.

T - Clean floral sweetness with subtle notes of coriander and a touch citrus. Damn good balance.

M - Really nice body for the style: fresh lemon with moderate carbonation keeps the beer prickly while maintaining a strong body for the style.

O - This is one of the best Wits your yen can buy. I can only hope it is comparable in the States.

This Wit has a very good reputation so I'm expecting a good showing for me.

From the old Trix commercial....it's a lemon yellow,(cloudy) good stoutish head of foam to begin with but it does shrink rather quickly. There isn't an abundance of lacing left behind.

The smell is classic Witbier, with lovely coriander, wheat, some nice sweet notes kind of sugar candi like, light clove, a refreshing? fruitiness of lemon zest. Nose, move over. It's mouth's turn.

And the enjoyment continues. There are no surprises at all in the taste. A wonderfully fully flavoured Wit that expresses everything I mentioned in the smell but...it's so darn smooth and balanced. This drives the drinkability right out of the ball park for me. 24.3 ounces of pure nectar and I see, looking at the bottom of the bottle, a whole lot of stubborn sentiment. Get in me glass, I say!

A near perfect mouthfeel with the abv right where it ought to be, I reckon THIS is what I'd call one of the benchmarks for the style. No doot aboot it.

The aroma is delightful with lots of zesty lemon and orange, spicy tomato, and an undertone of honey. Pours a frothy white head with a hazy, pale gold body. The flavor is delicious with lots of spiciness from the coriander and nutmeg; zesty orange fruitiness; a slight cool, anise seed-like quality; and a malty, grainy finish. There's just a touch of underlying bitterness. The body is frothy and somewhat creamy but overall medium-light in effect with a great deal of crispness from the carbonation.

A uniquely pleasant aroma and a deliciously complex and balanced flavor. Ridiculously drinkable.
