330mL squat brown stubbie bottle, past its freshness date of 11/11/2008 by nearly three months, but in a land where cerevisial delights are few and far between, I'll take what I can get. Purchased at Muji, Canal City, Fukuoka (if that's of interest to anyone).
No true Weizengläser handy, just a standard reasonably tall Japanese beer mug. Poured with much less carbonation and head formation than I would have expected; disappointing. Bottle shape isn't appropriate for a Weißbier, especially since this has been sitting undisturbed for a while. When sediment was poured, it was an appropriate cloudy dark gold colour with little carbonation evident. Wonder if there was a slight leak in the cap - probably just the beer.
Smell is pretty authentic: banana more than anything else. It's been a while since I've had a decent Weizen, or indeed a decent beer of any kind, so my senses are rusty, but there was a surfeit of banana in the nose. Other typical Weizen aromas were there though; grainy wheatiness, cloves, bitter hops etc.
Taste is pretty unbalanced: a little sour, not as sweet on the tongue as anticipated and certainly more than a little rough on the palate. Disappointing, but it still resembles the style, it's nice and buttery and is definitely still drinkable, so it doesn't rank below 'average'. Perhaps I am a little overcritical since I am such a fan of this style, but this beer's heart is in the right place and I can't fault that.
Mouthfeel is pretty standard but there is a slight aftereffect in my mouth right now that is making my palate a little dry and unpleasant. Despite that though I'd definitely have a few more of these if I could - only I'm not in Fukuoka any more!
Overall: I'll have it again, preferably fresher, preferably at the brewery, and I'm sure my experience with this beer will improve a lot. Above average, but my tasting of this bottle wasn't anything better than the "average" Weizenbier out there.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle with a non Julian date code.
On the pour 1 finger of head forms on top of a lightly hazy deep golden body. Yeast sediment is present on the bottom of the bottle.
Aroma is intense, amd bright lemony citrus. A slight sweet pale malt backs it up providing a nice fullness. There is a slighrbyeasty fink hiding behind everything.
Flavor is less intense and bright than the aroma, and rhe lemony characheter reveals that it is likely a yeast flavor and aroma as opposed to hops. A lightly toasted, but sweet malt is present in the finish. Low to no bitterness.
Feel is full with a slight slippery feeling in the mouth. Still drinkable amd almost refreshing. Feel isn't exceptional, but not bad.
Overall a decent wheat beer. I'd call this an American style wheat beer personally, but I guess it's not called Hefeweizen. I also haven't looked at the style listed here. Fine, but don't buy it for too much of a markup.

From a bottle. Cloudy orange color with an inch of fluffy white head. Smells of wheat and orange peel. Medium body and smooth feel. Wheat flavor with some orange peel and cloves. Nice and refreshing

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Pale gold, pours suitably/quite hazy with a 1Cm pillowy white head. ps@+10mins, holds well.
S- Some mild spice notes, pretty mild.
T- Ditto spice, a bit more prominent in the Taste now. CO2 and a light hop note into the finish.
F- It feels quite light, maybe 4.8%? The high carbonation (typical for a Japanese beer) adds to the sense of lightness.
O- Much of Japan get 'real scorchio' hot/humid in the summer and this would be a thirst-slaker for it. But I get a sense of thin-ness/lightness from it, It might benefit from just a bit more malt to it... The stars aren't aligning for me on this one, shame.
Review1987/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> 5.5%ABV, otherwise no surprises.
330ml bottle BB: 07/22 £3 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

Bright gold appearance with a tiny, off white head and no noticeable lacing. Spicy, yeasty, wheaty aroma. Tart fruit flavor; slightly herbaceous. Medium-to-light bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel. Cleanses the palate well. Fairly short lived, dry finish. Not as smooth and well rounded as the more typical hefe’s, but still interesting.

Taste has hints of citrus and honey with a soft wheat backing. Color is opaque yellow with an orange tint.
This seems to be one of the more accessible Hitachino beers and for good reason. I very much recommend this beer, especially if you have not tried any Hitachino Nest Beers.

Bottle from Market of Choice.
A mildly hazy light orange with a dense white head with good retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is interesting. This isn't a straightforward weizen. It's got cooked clove, mashed bananas and very interestingly, an almost yuzu like citrus note. Noticeably grainy and wheaty with a definite wort character present. The palate opens mildly sweet with wheat, honey, wort and the little citrus I mentioned. Spiced cake with clove and a little nutmeg like character. Unconventional in flavor, this beer is moderately carbonated and finishes dry with a grainy note that lingers. Solid stuff, though it doesn't come close to touching the OGs from Germany.
