I love this beer! It is like crack cocaine, very addictive. Espresso and Beer, 2 of my favorite things in life, in a single beer.
This is a beauty of a pour, dark and slighly short of syrupy, in a good way. It is thick but does not fill your mouth, like a Guinness does.
The head is toffee brown, dark caramel color. It does taste like espresso, nit an imitation type either. There is no hint of artificial flavoring at all.
I would drink this by itself or with a dessert. It might even go well with a filet, covered with red onions in a port reduction and stilton cheese. In other words: sweet but tart and a hint of bitter.

The aroma gives off slightly sour bread crust, molasses, and dark roast coffee beans. The tan head is large and frothy; the body is black and opaque. The flavor is predominantly characterized by espresso and alcohol; the overall effect is strangely but distinctly reminiscent of the aged pepper quality of hot sauce. There is an undertone of dark fruit/molasses. Bread crust malt lingers in the finish. The body is medium-full with restrained carbonation.

The espresso, which was actually used, is quite apparent. I love coffee about as much as I love beer, but it's hard to say how well it works in this case. There doesn't seem to be much to taste besides the espresso and the alcohol, the latter of which verges on solventy. I won't say it's overall bad—far from it—but the alcohol and weird hot sauce flavor are a bit too distracting to enjoy the other aspects fully.

I was hoping Hitachio Nest was gonna have a new Celebration ale for the year but no luck there but this newer offering was a nice find.Poured into a pint glass a jet black with a thin but tight formed dark mocha colored head,big dark roast coffee in the nose infused with orange-like fruitiness and bitter chocolate.Roasted to the hilt flavors only light caramel sweetness,very earthy with deep penetrating espresso/dark roast coffee flavors.This big stout gets to the point with its heavily roasted dryer character and the alcohol is pretty well hidden although its deep roastiness may get a bit much after awhile,still very solid.

bottle, no date, but sampled shortly after the first Mass. import.

A: black, mostly opaque body. the edges do let a bit of light through a deep mahogany. head is splotchy and sparse. some residue around glass but not much. leaves a bit to be desired. considering the espresso quality id appreciate a frothier head to complete the cappuccino image.

S: loads of sweet bean, espresso dust. some underlying sugar, bakers chocolate. familiar coffee liquor quality i find in heavily dosed coffee beers-hard to describe yet pretty obvious in the nose. some vanilla. nice but not overly complex.

T/M: big wave of roasted grain, bitter espresso, and finished with a stale acidity. drying and slick, the mouthfeel is coating but the body a little thin. a bit of bittersweet chocolate, hint of the vanilla nose. all in all this is a bit of a one trick pony. loads of espresso grounds on the mid and back palette, lingering finish thats bone dry, but not a whole lot else.

D: a nightcap, and one at that. alcohol is balanced and at an appropriate level for this beer.

overall this is a nice offering from Hitachino who regularly impresses me but this beer is a bit one dimensional. the coffee character is not interesting enough on its own, nor integrated enough to really work well.

A very very very deep black, I am talking black as night. With a nice stack of about two fingers worth of dark tan head covering the top of this deep black stout on pouring. It has the smell of a fresh cup of coffee from your local coffee shop, I am not talking about Starbucks, but your local shop. But with a hint of alcohol. Now to the taste category, it is very smooth for such a dark beer. The espresso flavor sticks out but not to the point of becoming to bitter to be drinkable. It is very drinkable for being a coffee stout. Not to bitter but also not to sweet. Upon finishing this one I defiantly had the urge to head back to the beer store and get another.

I feel like I was more impressed by this stout than most people. Very damn good.

A - Dark brown coffee color with a very porous and impressive white-brown head.

S - Typical stout smell layered with a little cacao, coffee, and vanilla. Does not smell very alcoholic. Smells more like a post-dinner beverage than a beer.

T - My favorite part of this beer. Definitely the most important part. While called espresso stout, the espresso does not overpower the rest of the beer. Actually quite mild. Has a little flavor of unsweetened/baking chocolate as well as a little bit of a chili pepper taste. Nicely balanced and the alcohol is hidden. Coffee, not espresso, on the back end.

M - Not too heavy for a beer as dark as this. Bites your tongue just a little. Feels okay.

O - I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Thought I was getting solid stout, and I got something more. I went back the same day and bought the last remaining bottle. I suspect I will be drinking this again in the near future.

This beer was served to me in the bottle which I poured myself into the glass. It is a deep brown-black opaque color with a tan head. The smell is of (naturally!) espresso, coffee and chocolate and the taste is the same. And yet, even though it tasted exactly as it should, it was still unique! The flavor was strong, like roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate, a perfect balance. It was easy to drink, one of those beers that is gone before you realize it.

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and coffee with a touch of chocolate.

The flavor is chocolate and coffee with some roasted malt.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Relatively straight forward, but well done.

Pours dark brown, nearly black, with clear brown edges. Foam explosion of tan bubbles. Light, sweet espresso aroma with maybe a burnt malt/rice/grain scent? Not exactly sour, but different. Smooth mouthfeel more consistent with a milk stout. Full flavor; mostly coffee/espressso and grain, but a creeping oaky/veggie taste flows in and out. Someone mentioned sake, but it was kind of a light rice vinegar tartness in mine. Not enough to gag you, but to notice from time to time. Decent, not worth the price for the small bottle.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of March 2014, so it's out of date. ABV is stated as 7%. Hope it's still good. The label mentions that this is brewed with well-roasted espresso beans.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. A very dark brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a large head of creamy mocha-coloured foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of rich roasted malt and coffee with hints of espresso, burnt grain, dark malt, cocoa, mild molasses, sugar, earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves.

T: Tastes of rich coffee and roasted malt with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of espresso, roasted malt, burnt grain, cocoa, subtle molasses, a hint of sugar, earthy yeast and stewed leaves. Well-attenuated, followed by a lingering, malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Could be a tad creamier for the style. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of roasted coffee, burnt malt, bitterness and earthy yeast.

O: Delicious - a superb coffee stout. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a fantastic blend of rich coffee notes and roasted malt, underpinned by subtle yeast. Body is alright, though could be thicker. Packs a real flavour punch; well worth sampling if you have the chance.
