Pours rich dark chocolate brown, nearly black, in the oversized wine glass. There is surprisingly little head and no lacing to mention, however, each swirl deposits a film on the glass.

Equal parts strong espresso, dark chocolate, and bourbon with cashews and amaretto in the background. Warmth allows the nuances to be amplified.

Black coffee dominates; however, some cigarette smoke invades. Bitterness carries throughout and into the lingering finish as baker’s chocolate.
This stout is full body with a smooth texture and prickly carbonation. Astringency is too high while alcohol is as expected.

Astringency and cigarette flavors hold this one back. Strong flavored foods such as beef or pungent cheese will help.

Had it at a Rock concert in Los Angeles, perfect beer for the occasion. Pours a black colour with a thick beige head. Aroma of rich espresso coffee with some vanilla notes. Rich flavour of espresso, roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla and some bitter hops in the background which I enjoyed. Light vegetable notes. Full bodied, soft carbonation and a long finish with some robustness and coffee. Very well balanced, could't ask for anything else.

330ml bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle stamped E.8.12 which I'm guessing either means it was brewed in December, 2008 or it is best by August, 2012. I'm hoping for the latter.

Appearance is pitch black like used motor oil with a tiny dark tan head that quickly fades to a ring around the glass.

Smells quite strongly of espresso and roasted malt with a touch of caramel.

Taste is sweet caramel, coffee, an roasted malt. Much like a caramel mocha. Lots of bitterness from the malt and coffee. There is an earthy quality to this, kind of woody, that is chicory-like in nature. Mouthfeel is silky and smoothe but quite full-bodied.

Overall this is an excellent beer. The coffee is nicely balanced and I really like the earthy quality. One that I would like to have again.

Poured from a 330 mL. capped bottle (no date) into a snifter glass.

A strong pour yields a 2-finger mocha-colored head that fades to a thick, even coating and thick foam ring after a few minutes. The body is a near black mahogany that shows no traces of color when held to light. Some great lacing can be seen throughout consumption.

The nose is definitely more like a cup of joe than like a glass of beer. It is filled with coffee aromas, including coffee beans (not roasted), coffee grounds, and espresso.

The first sip reminds me of a cappuccino latte while held in the mouth. Notes of dark, sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, caramel, espresso, and roasted coffee beans are all there. Upon swallowing, flavors of coffee, espresso, and hot chocolate all come out. The finish is rather dry and does not leave much of an aftertaste.

Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer starts off very creamy on the tongue but has a sharp, dry finish. The body is nice and thick. It coats your mouth well, is a bit sticky, but isn't quite to the point of being syrupy. The carbonation is only slightly fizzy but does not detract from the flavors and really helps this beer's dry finish.

A: Pours pretty much an opaque black color. A massive, rocky tan head rises to over two fingers with excellent retention. Rings of sticky lace is left behind. This is a looker.
S: Roasted malts and lots of fresh ground coffee. Cream, chocolate, nutmeg. Toasted, bready aromas. This is excellent.
T: Big on the roast and coffee again. The coffee is very nice, but not over barring which seems to be a problem with a lot of other version. Vanilla and chocolate. Very nice.
M/D: A medium to full body. Prickly carbonation, but smooth at the same time. So easy to drink. Everything is well incorporated, and the alcohol is nowhere to be seen. An excellent stout to sip on.

This is a really nice coffee stout. The alcohol is certainly pushing the imperial range, but it is not over barring at all. Really enjoyable and well made.

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pours a dark brown almost black hue with amber highlights. Has a thick, tan, 3-finger head that slowly dissipates leaving a nice trail down glass and ending in a persistent lace.

S: Strong coffee and malt aroma with an alcoholic background.

T: Dark rich ale that is a little more sweet than bitter. Has a solid coffee and malt background hints of hops.

M: Very strong and boozy. Medium body and medium carbonation

O: Delicious coffee stout. Huge coffee flavors and very boozy!
