10 oz pour in a tumbler glass
beer arrived a mysterious deep dark black. The head was a little smaller and a little less dense than I expected with a stout. It left very little lacing to mark it's passage.
Smell was not very strong. Pretty typical stout aroma of sweetness, perhaps with a hint of coffee in the background.
Taste was very up front. Strong flavor of sweet lactose and malt at the beginning, but after that, the flavor went away. Bland and kind of boring with no finish at all.
Thin watery mouthfeel (in a stout!).
I found this beer to be not nearly as good as the other Hitachino beers I've tried and a little disappointing.
Serving type: on-tap

Bottle marked SS.12.05 at 50 degrees into imperial pint
Aroma of sour milk fading to a wet cardboard
Head large (5 cm), light brown, creamy with some rocks, mostly diminishing to a 2 mm layer
Body dark brown, opaque
Flavor of lactose with some coffee notes; sweet, no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium, creamy, carbonation soft
Looks OK, smells bad, tastes – meh. Worth trying once while sharing the bottle among 4-6 people; share the pain. If someone offers you one, plead lactose intolerance.
