On 11th March 2011, a huge earthquake struck Japan and with it our brewery. Some parts of the brew house were damaged, and the brewing tanks were left leaning at an angle. Completion of the typical mashing period had to be extended to three days until electricity to the brewery was restored. Natural fermentation had already started in the mash tank during these three days with a lactic acid cultured in our brewery. This "3 Days" beer is limited to only 8,000 bottles.

I picked up several bottles of this when it was first released and absolutely loved it. I already loved Nest, but this was my first experience with a sour-style beer and was hooked. After exhausting all of my local suppliers, I was bummed I would never get to have this beer again.
Last week, I happened to notice my local bar randomly had several bottles behind the counter. I can only assume their distributor sat on a case for years, hoping age would increase the beer's value. Not sure how else several bottles of this 8k bottle run suddenly popped up so many years later. I talked the GM into letting me buy all four and bring them home. Now I'm trying to decide how best to ration myself.

Poured from a bottle labelled 2011 into the test glass
A - Deep mahogany color, the most refined carbonation. Gentle movements no cap
S - Phenols, brandy, A bit of alcohol. Some sour grains, with some warming up very much like and Ode Bruin
T - Sweet Tarts, notes of Sherry, tannin, fruit leather
M - Oily, slick. tart start, the an almost cloying sweetness, then again the tart rolls through
O - Glad to have tried this, creative offering that is quite challenging

Interesting beer, thanks to rudzud.
Light fizzy head, murky auburn reddish color.
Nose is weird, lots of cherry like sour fruit, sour lacto and phenolic aromas, little green apple sweet candy malts caramel like with plenty of golden raisin and little fig, molasses.
Taste is more sweet and sour, sweet malts, brown sugar like, with more mild phenols, some esters, plenty of dark fruits, fig, raisin, little apple, nice spices like a cinnamon raisin thing, nutty spice. Mild sour lacto thing, with faint sour cherry, etc. Finish sticky and syrupy, more sour lacto and dark fruits, cherry, etc.
Mouth is med bod, light syrupy, decent carb.
Overall decent.

Pours a muddy, cloudy brown color. Little head and no lace. Aroma of barley malt and musty sweet lemon. In the taste, brown sugar like caramelization, burnt toast, and small acidity. Sweet, caramelized wheat with a warming alcohol glow. Full bodied, smooth and rich. Drinks easily, an amazing beer. This beer was fermenting when Japan suffered the severe flooding from an earthquake that hit Japan in 2011, fermenting an additional 3 days and gaining strength and complexity.

Pours out a rich amber with a thin head. Smell is malty, caramel, a little oxidized (in a good way), nutty and bready. Flavor is caramel, bread, pear, cherry, mild hops in the finish. Finishes pretty dry. Reminds me of a really good amber biere de garde. Light acidity on the tongue. Carbonation pops and works with the light acid. Fairly light bodies, considering the rich taste. Overall this is a really solid, rare offering, and a little bit of history.
