Thanks to skyhand for the chance to sample this beer.

Presentation: 12oz. stubby bottle with a twist off cap. Cool label but nothing informative.

Appearance: Dark black with a very thin tand head that quickly dissapates leaving some clustered clouds of foam.

Smell: Prominent chocolate smell and dark fudge. Very inviting and makes my mouth water.

Taste: Dark chocolate, fudge, roasted malts, and cocoa are prominent and here to do some business. It has a bit of smokiness going on in the background but it's not overdone like a smoked beer. Some drying hop bitterness shows up at the end. Lots of character and very full taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium heading towards full. Hints of numbing alcohol get left on the lips and tongue.

Drinkability: I could make a session out of these! Very full and lots of roasted chocolately goodness but not heavy going down.

Thanks to skyhand for this tasty west coast beer!

Pours from the stubby bottle a deep dark midnight black with a nice inch of creamy, foamy tan head atop. No light dares try to pass through this one. Very nice strings of lacing form on the side of the glass as well. Aromas of dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, hints of molasses, dark fruits and vanilla. Creamy, sweet and rich.

First sip brings a rich melding of roasted, toasty maltiness, rich milk chocolate, hints of roasted coffee beans and just a smidge of dark fruitiness on the way down. A hint of herbal, piney hop is noticeable. A bit lactic in the middle. This is just an awesomely flavorful stout through and through. Big, creamy, smooth and darn tasty.

Mouthfeel has a nice thick coating body that slides down the throat like silk. An easily drinkable stout that packs a big, robust (chocolatey!) flavor and keeps me coming back for sip after sip. I sure wish I had easy access to this one. Thanks to skyhand for the opportunity to sample this one.

This definatly isn't a standard stout, this one has kick!

Pours a nice viscous deep black with a thin brown head, no lacing present. Nose is quite unexpectedly hoppy, traces of caramel, roast, chocolate, hints of coffee. Mouthfeel lands in the middle area for a stout, but quite smooth and easy drinking. Taste is really different, more hops than any stout I've ever had, quite strong and kicking, nice. The taste is quite nice really, layers of roast and chocolate, nice and malty but equaled out by the hop and carbonation in terms of bite, but what else would you expect from a stout hailing from what some would call the hop capital of the United States?

A nice change of pace, I quite enjoyed this one, it breaks just the smallest bit from tradition into something unique.

Thanks go to Skyhand for providing me with the oppurtunity!

Slàinte!

The beer is as black as the depths of “Hell”, with a smallish deep chocolate head, that is spumescent in texture and the lace a thick and sticky blanket upon the glass. The aroma of roasted grain, sweet, nice hints of bittersweet chocolate, coffee, quite a fine nose, start is thick malt, rich and sweet, top is full in feel to the palate. Finish is pesky in its acidity, hops are scrumptious in their spiciness, aftertaste dry as a bleached desert bone, very long lasting and a fine stout from a fine brewery.

Appearance – Very dark ruby color with no head whatsoever.

Smell – Big coffee and chocolate nose with roasted malt undertones. There may be a little hop balance in there but I’m not picking up much in the way of sugars.

Taste – This is a Big Daddy. The gigantic coffee flavor mixed with a sturdy hop balance makes this one a heavy hitter. This one is bitter and burnt, like licking the black off of a burnt piece of toast.

Mouthfeel – Very smooth with a slight tinge of alcohol. This one is full-bodied and very nice on the cheeks.

Drinkability – This is probably too much for most, and in fact I’d like to have a piece of cheesecake to eat with it. It went down quite well, though.

From a 12 oz bottle with utilitarian looking brown and black label, virtually no head appeared despite a vigorous pour. A slight tan bit just hits the edges of the glass for a few minutes before disappearing completely. Just a trace of amber appears through the darkness when the glass is held up to light. The smell and taste are solid and thoroughly enjoyable stout: roasted malt backed with a trace of ripe fruit and enough hops to keep things interesting. My only gripe is that knowing the general vicinity of the abv would be nice. Regardless of the alcohol content, this is one fine stout.

I sampled this at Redbones on tap. (I am assuming it was on nitro draught, as it had the characteristic creamy head.) This stout poured jet black with a creamy tan head that left a great coating on the glass as the beer was sipped. The aroma was of dark malt, but was modest. The taste was sweet and malty with coffee and a bit of licorice in the finish. The mouthfeel was sweet but clean and crisp. The drinkability was very good. This is a very nice stout from Washington state.

I phoned the brewery and was told that the stout sold at Redbones was not their Irish-style stout, but was in fact their Imperial Stout (9.0% abv). This accounts for the sweetness experienced in this stout.
