This brew is a coppery and heavily hopped India Pale Ale. Named after brewmaster Keegan’s grandmother whose driving earned her quite a reputation with local police racing her six children to and from a local Long Island beach ferry during the 1960’s, Hurricane Kitty is the undisputed family favorite. We try to make the hop bill read as aggressively as her driver’s record.

12 oz bottle. Batch number, which doesnt really help.

Copper colored, clear. Piney, earthy hop aroma. Taste is fairly bitter. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied (159 characters)

Pours a very clear orange with a white head that faded after a little while. The smell was nice with a lot of citrus and pine with some sweet bread flavors on the back. The flavor was similar with nice grassy and citrus flavors coming up first with sweet malt on the back end. Really refreshing. (295 characters)

Reddish cast. Richly variegated, light-beige head, which recedes fairly quickly, leaving handsome lacing. Subtle buttery aroma that surprisingly hints at toffee and caramel. Clean vegetable taste, with a strong aftertaste redolent of turnip or onion; piny, slightly citrus volatility lurks. Rich feel. A mature flavor that lets you know it's beer. (347 characters)

A: Red copper. Off white head that should persist more. Spotty lacing.

S: Sweet toffee, grains, floral and citrus hops. Lots of molasses treacle.

M: A little rough, medium body. A scratchy sensation on the back of the palate. Moderate carbonation. On the drier side, but some malt creaminess is noticeable midway.

T: A whirl of flavors-sweet, bitter, tart. Orange peel, sweet grains, chewy dough, bright tangerine, lemon, bitter herbs, lots of dry hopping- good amount of scratchy pine that's piercing more than resinous in character. Tangerine and some complimentary chives in the end. Would taste nice with some nice sharp cheddar. (636 characters)

Notes are from 5/30

This IPA is copper for sure, clouded in the body and lightening at the edges. A deeply-pocked tinted finger maintains a height of just over one finger. Heavy spotting at the very top gives way to thick, heavy sheeting that's pretty impressive.
The nose is simple but strong, balanced and deep. It puts hops forward, showcasing them in a pungent earthy, floral and leafy bitterness offset by creamy toffee sweetness and that light sweet and pithy balance of orange rind.
Honey and caramel seem to even out that same bitterness, which goes gently and unoffensively briny in the middle and finishes lightly woody with a touch of caramel.
The feel is smooth and creamy with a crisp bite in a medium body. (721 characters)

Bottle purchased from Beers of the World in Henrietta, NY.

Pours a copper amber color, with a half inch head, and a little bit of lacing down the glass.

Smells like sweet caramel malt, with some pine and a bit of grapefruit.

This one of the maltier IPAs I've had, to its detriment. Fairly astringent bitterness, plus sweet syrupy malt character. Tastes stronger than the ABV suggests, which is weird. Just doesn't work. The hop flavor is more in-line with pine-sol.

Medium bodied, syrupy, rough mouthfeel. Not all that drinkable.

Maybe I need a fresher bottle of this, but it just doesn't quite work for me. (612 characters)

The beer comes in a dark reddish copper.

The aroma has toasty malts, a bit of citrus, and pine.

The flavor follows with a bit of grapefruit, but lots of earthy pine notes. The finish is quite bitter of earthy, resin, and pine. The beer almost tastes like a lager with its balance of malts. There's a lot of caramel and toasted breadiness behind this beer.

There's a generous medium mouthfeel.

A beer with a good amount of a flavor for its ABV. It was described to me as a "copper" ale. Not your traditional IPA if that's what you're looking for. (549 characters)

From 03/29/13 notes. Picked this up about a week before at City Swiggers for $2.49/12 oz. bottle. Poured into my Bell's tulip.

a - Pours a hazy, dark reddish amber color with one finger of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident. Has lots of lacing left on the glass.

s - Smells of toasted malts, caramel malts, fruity malts, and some light citrus hops. Not bad but not very hoppy at all; lots of malts in the nose.

t - Tasted of citrus hops, pine hops, fruity malts, caramel malts, toffee, wheat, and bready malts. Malts are still there but a lot more hops than the nose had too...the pine is nice.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Body is pretty smooth. Easy to drink.

o - Overall a nice beer but like the Double Dorado I had before it, a little too malty for me on the IPA front. More hops were present in the taste than the nose, but still a lot of caramel and malts. Worth checking out but wouldn't get it again if I was looking for something hoppy. (979 characters)

Nice copper/amber color with soft off white head. Modest bit of lacing.

Nose is predominantly piney with some very soft hints of citrus. Not a powerful aroma.

Taste is simple but decent. Good bite of pine again with a hint of grapefruit to sweeten it a bit. Shortlived dry hop finish.

Mouth feel is pretty full actually with a lot of sharpness in the finish from the hops.

Pretty good overall, a very simple, straight forward IPA. Not going to blow any minds, but a good option to have around when the beer store is closed and the fridge is empty... (554 characters)

Coppery color. Aroma is a bit faint for an IPA, but a smooth earthy hop smell comes through. Nice citrusy taste and solid body in the mouthfeel. Overall, a nice drinking IPA. Not in my top ten, but I'd enjoy a six pack in the fridge. (233 characters)

Thinnish off-white head with an even surface which dissolves off at a steady clip leaving a ring around the outsides, the lacing forms thin sheets which slide down the glass, not much stickiness. Pretty reddish amber color, spotless and shiny, glass filled well with a storm of loose bubbles, more of a yellow tint at the surface and glass bottom. There’s plenty of crisp snap to the nose, black pepper, salt, pretzel dough, a fern like leafiness, metallic earth, dried orange pulp, no strong presence in white pit fruit, pine nor flowers, consistent cleansing scrubbing sensation without arch bite. Full-bodied, tart with plenty of prickle, the carbonation lends a sandpapery texture which combines with the wet hop feel, all moist leaves, damp earth, wet stones and pine cone to give it big bite. The white grapefruit to sour orange comes through clearly. Any fruit stays in the shadows. Yet, you get a touch more caramel, cocoa and honey to at least attempt to soften the finish. Leaves an oily residue behind on the tongue. No meaningful alcoholic burn. It’s definitely for “hop heads” while not necessarily for the those who also want a lot of sweetness in an IPA. (1,177 characters)

Thanks to juliusseizure (Reddit) for this one, no date on the IPA.

Pours a light fizzy almost 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, some lacing, over mostly clear coppery orange colored beer.

Nose brings some hops, light candy like hops with a little orange peel, some light pine and earthy hops, and just a bit of fruity hops with that. There is a light toasty caramel malt underneath it, with some toffee that adds to the candy hop flavor.

Taste is malty at first, caramel nutty reddish toasty malts, semi sweet and little syrupy, again candy is a key word. Hops bring candy hops again, light candied orange peel, as well as a bit of pine and light grassy flavors, with and earthy hop demeanor. Again light fruity and chewy hops. Fair amount of bitterness but not a lot, and mostly a sweet caramel nutty toffee malt mostly dominating. Finish is drier with a bigger bitterness, lingering candy hops, light grassy pine and chewy like hops, with light caramel malts as well.

Mouth is med bodied, decent fluffy carb.

Overall, OK but not great. Malts are decent but more of a red ale style than IPA, even for an east coast IPA, and hops are not what the American palate has come to expect for American IPA, this one being mostly earthy, candy chewy like with just a bit of pine and slightest orange peel like. (1,313 characters)

I had this while watching my Oregon Ducks play at a local bar, while my family slept at our power-less home. It seemed ironic to enjoy the hurricane beer after losing power to hurricane Sandy.

They served this beer with a shaker pint. There was about a finger of foam from my pour over an orange beer. The foam went away due to a lack of rentention.

I get a bright, citrus nose with almost no malt presence.

There is a decent amount of flower and citrus hops in each sip. It was a little unbalanced. The flavors are clean, but the bitterness at the end really exceeded the hop flavoring.

Not a bad IPA. Nothing that really makes it stand out from the rest. (660 characters)

A: Poured from the growler into a Harpoon pint glass (the beer I had before this was a Harpoon White IPA - good stuff, BTW). Body is coppery-amber with a half-finger ivory head. Leaves the occasional small splotch of lace.

S: Not a lot in the nose. A touch of earthy hops, and as it warms I get caramel malt/toffee.

T: Caramel malt up front. Citrusy hops. Lingering bitterness is minerally and lemon. Almost lemonade-like in some ways.

M: Call it real close to medium in heft. Carbonation is on the slightly flat side, making this a little bit syrupy.

D: Good stuff. Not my favorite IPA of all time, but a solid offering from a (relatively) local brewery. (659 characters)

Poured from bottle into plastic cup at a concert...random selection and couldnt pass up.
Pours an amber color with a small amount of white head. Fruity malt aromas and faint hops.
Taste is very malty, sweet caramel malts and a bit of mild hops. Its almost fruity, like fruit punch maybe? And not enough hops for me.
Its an ok brew, but a not very good IPA. Too malty for me. (374 characters)

A: When backlighted a rose red coloring shows through filled with a lively sense of effervesce. A strong holding 2 finger whipped cream head structure sits steadily atop providing a nice lace coverage on the vessel.

S: Dry toasted grain and pine are noticeable for aroma. Really strong grainy sense, herbal hops, chives, with some dried lemony flower hops. The flavor shows a lemon-pine hopping with a support of dry toasted grain. Good level of hops, though is sloppy in execution, a bit harsh and unfocused. Lemony flower hops appear midway before a dry lemon-pine hop finish.

M: medium malt base, dry toasted and dry hopped sense on the tongue.

O: Overall the hops are fairly strong on this one, unfortunately they are a bit unfocused, and sloppy flavor wise, a bit harsh, with a linear complexity. Hoppy yet only moderately tasty, nothing that would keep me drinking after one. Shallow experience, sloppy execution overall, only fills a need to scratch a hop fix and wont satisfy your taste needs. Drinks more like a red then an ipa, with a similar malt base and different hop combination may fair better. (1,114 characters)

Poured an almost amber, ruddy brown body with a quarter inch of beige head. Head had decent retention and it laces the glass somewhat. The aroma is very citrus hops , and the taste follows. Its heavily bitter and has a harsh finish to it. It is a somewhat slick and oily aftertaste. Try it if you are into bitter and bitey! (323 characters)

Copper color with a off white creamy head that leaves nice lacing on the glass.

Caramel, floral, bread, grapefruit, a hint of alcohol.

Citrus, caramel, some toasted malt flavors that pop out. Doughy breadiness and a mixture of a sweet bitterness that comes together at the end.

Light body, crisp carbonation, dry mouth feel.

Overall, I liked this at first but the second glass tasted weird. I thought oh wow this is delicious but the wow factor wore off. (462 characters)

Good beer, really good actually. The bottle is nothing flashy but this is a well hopped IPA that is very smooth and drinkable and you cant tast the alcohol like you can with some IPA's which is a good thing. After pouring into a pint glass this beer appears much more impressive and a nice smell of hops and grapefruit hits your nose as you approach the glass. (360 characters)

A - a beautiful amber body with waaaayyyy too much head (4 fingers!). looks very nice regardless

S - sweet, malty, hoppy, earthy, slight citrus, fruity, very floral

T - very earthy, slightly bitter, slight metallic taste, toasted grains

M - very fizzy, a ton of head until the bottom of the glass made this one a little annoying to drink

O - i think i may have gotten a bottle that was sitting on the shelf for too long. i've heard/read good things about this beer to have it end up like this - need to give it another shot with a fresh batch (546 characters)

Poured from a 12oz. bottle with a standard pressure cap into a Corsendonk tulip at low altitude.

A: Pours a semi-transparent deep copper color with a two-finger off-white head that leaves spotty lacing. Quite appealing.

S: Tangerine hop character, caramel malts and bready yeast.

T: Caramel and bready malts up front followed by a bit of tangerine and a very bitter hoppy finish. The balance definitely errs on the bitter side.

M: Medium-bodied and wet, but the excessive bitterness makes it a bit difficult to tell what's going on with the mouthfeel.

D: While it has some good IPA characteristics, it's unbalanced and extremely bitter, which detracts greatly in terms of drinkability. (690 characters)

Poured into round bowl mug, very clear and bubbly with amber/orange body and offwhite bubbly lingering head. Sweet citrus and floral hop profile on the nose, with a touch of grassiness. Very clean and crisp with perfect bitter balance, acidity, but a bit of a strong aftertaste. Anyone who enjoys bitter with a light crisp body should enjoy this. (346 characters)

A - Dark hazy brown with a nice bit of opaque colored head. Sticky lacing is moderate.

S - Earthy strong hops with some standard sweet malts backing. Bit of skunk.

T - A pretty smooth IPA with earthy bitter hops flavors, a touch of leaf hops, and some caramel soaked malts.

M - Body is a bit thin for the style but filtered and drinkable.

Overall not distributed to my area but not a bad IPA. Would consider again if I was in the New York area. (449 characters)

Enjoyed out of standard bottle.

A medium hoppy beer with a smoothe bitter finsish. Reminds me of a well above average red/amber ale.

You can enjoy a few of these but not an all-nighter. First try for me on Keegan's and happy so will give the rest of there line-up a try and review. (283 characters)

Got this from Cosmicevan. Thanks!
No date on this 12oz bottle that I could find. Poured into a red wine glass.

Appearance- Hazy red color with a dirty white head. Very good lacing. 3/5

Smell- Grassy hop aroma with a sweet malt backbone. Bits of orange as well. 3/5

Taste- Muted but balanced grassy, and earthy hop flavor and malt sweetness. There is earthy bitterness to the very end of it. The bitterness stays with you for a good amount of time. 3/5

Mouthfeel- I would've anticipated a fuller mouthfeel but did not get it, which is just fine by me. The carbonation was a bit high at first but now is just fine. 3/5

Overall- This is a decent beer. Nice easy IPA. I would like a bigger hop aroma and flavor, but I am a crazy, IPA snob. Or so I have been told. 3/5 (769 characters)
