Appearance - Dark Brown liquid with tan head

Smell - black licorice, roasted malts, cream

Taste - black licorice, roasted malts, burnt cream

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, medium carbonation, sweetness upfront, some sort of burnt sensation at the tail end, almost to the point of being acrid. Flavors lack balance and finesse

Overall - not very impressed with this one, flavors appear to be unbalanced and unrefined. Would consider trying this again on draft.

Price Point - $2/12 oz single

first time i get to try keegan ales here we go got to pick this one up from over at bierkraft in park slope great store lots of bottles

my sample poured great with a nice mocha colored head on an opaque black beer not a real big head on this sucker but nice form and density

smelled of burnt raisins and hops some real nice grass notes in there not a real intimidating beer more of a nice gentle sweet beer

tastes awesome this one is super balanced between the rich caramel sweetness and then there is an acidic touch at the end with the coffee and just enough of a hop flavor to make it right

good creamy mouthfeel my favorite aspect of this beer

overall a really solid beer highly recommended great local brew

From a growler that had been sitting on a shelf at Rt. 59 Liquors for awhile, but not Too long!. Pours very dark, almost black, lifting a thin, tiny bubble, tan head. Also leaves a tell tale sign of quality brew, a fine, wispy coating of lace. Nose is cocoa, and burnt grain. Medium bodied, with notes of lactose, chocolate, coffee and a slight dry sweetness in the finish. Tasty, drinkable sweet stout. Survives/lasts for awhile in a growler.

Pours an enormous 6 finger head. Over carb'ed. Smells of sweet malts, touch if alcohol, some coffe, some roasted barley. Tastes of coffee, roasty, some cream. Finishes dry and roasty, touch of lingering bitterness. Thin bodied, light mouthfeel. Not what I was expecting. $1.89 a single.

Pours the usual pitch black with a moderately sized beige head. Decent lacing. Smells nicely coffee with a hint of chocolate. Moderate malt profile with the roast being slightly subdued. Hints of bittersweet chocolate permeate and the cafe isn't hard to find. Not a harsh bone in it's body. Smoothed out nicely by the milk. Great session stout.

A pleasant treat: a very nice milk stout. This poured a dark color but not black. A tan head arises but doesn't last long. However, a quick swirl will bring it back to life in a hurray. The smell is pleasantly sweet. The taste is very nice-sweet but not overwhelming. The only negative about this beer is that it seems some what thin but not distractingly so. Certainly worth trying. Enjoy!

On-tap at Rattle-n-Hum in NYC. Listed as 3.0% ABV at the bar.

Pours one shade from black with dark brown highlights and a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of smooth roasted malts, dark chocolate, light coffee, and sweet dark malts, in that order. Unlike most other milk stouts the roastiness sticks around even as the beer warms.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Roasted malt flavors up front are backed up by decent amounts of unsweetened chocolate and much lighter amounts of roasted coffee. Midway through the sip the malt flavors sweeten a bit and carry through to a mildly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with active carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could have a few of these at such a low ABV.

Overall this is by far the lowest ABV Milk Stout I've come across and it's also one of the best. It's definitely got more of an edge than others in the style but it's very much worth a shot.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer pours a dark black opaque body with a thin creamy tan head. There is no sign of carbonation at all.

S- The aroma is very clean with a roasted smooth black malt note and a very soft earthy cream note that comes through when it warms a bit. The faint hint of greenness and black malt bitterness concludes the finish after the beer has warmed a bit.

T- This beer has a chocolate roasted malt flavor with a bit of a chalk note to it and a creamy burnt tartness to the finish. There is a soft bitterness of black malt at the finish but no lingering bitterness at all. The last few sips show a very faint smokiness which is nice and I would have really liked that in the dark malt flavor all through the beer.

M- This beer has a creamy slightly silky medium mouthfeel, with no alcohol heat at all.

D- This is a nice smooth stout with a decent flavor but it is missing a bit of bitterness to balance the malt flavors. If it could turn up the volume just a bit it would add a lot more interest to this beer.

a - Pours deep brown into tulip glass with virtually no head.

s - Smells of very mild coffee

t - Tastes of coffee, small amount of lactose and finishes with a licorice and mild alcohol. Simple but pleasant, low bitterness.

m - Very thin almost watery body and mouth feel with med-high carbonation which slightly hides the thinness.

o - Decent entry-level milk stout. Easy drinker at 5.7% abv, but lacks the creamy quality a milk stout would imply. It does not have an overly complex flavor profile, however its appeal is in its simplicity.

Appearance: Inch of dark brown head. Impenetrable blackness. Delightful to behold.

Aroma: Strongly of coffee. Slightly milky and vanilla.

Taste: If something can taste dark, this does. Bitterness of coffee. Milky finish.

Mouthfeel: Creamy finish. Not terribly heavy for a stout. Good amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: Goes down pretty damn easy. Only 6%, so these could drink slow and for a while.

Overall, very nice. A very good representation of the style. Full flavored and quite delicious. Highly recommended.

Poured from a bottle into my trusty Troegs pint glass.

Pours a very dark brown that resolves into a completely opaque blackness in the glass. Smallish sized dark tan head that recedes quickly and leaves some loose, spotty lacing. Good looking stout. Smell is mostly sweet malts with a fair bit of chocolate and a tiny bit of vanilla nuance at the end. Quite appealing.

Toasted sweet malts are the order of the day tastewise. Notes of chocolate and vanilla also permeate the tongue, neither being overly cloying. Maybe a slight bit of a lactose kick in the middle, with a finish that's slightly bitter. Aftertaste is almost non-existent with just a tiny bit of lingering bitterness and alcohol is undetectable. Mouthfeel is on the medium side of light, with a fair bit of carbonation and some mild acidic astringency. At times it felt like I was drinking some flat soda. Quite drying too.

Drinkability is quite good. Not the best milk stout I've ever had, but it's definitely easy to drink and tasty enough to merit a revisit. A good brew with which to sit back and close out the night.
