From a 500 ml brown bottle, abv. listed at 4.8%. Pours out a watery and hazed dusty gold hue, suspended particles present, with a tall frothy white head that settles to a thin creamy cap.

Unripe banana and some mild notes of vanilla on the nose, faint phenols, and a bit of low-lying funk.

Well then, the first sip reveals green apple and pear peels up front. A bit of a green banana character, along with some clovey phenols that help to mask previous flavour idiosyncrasies. Vanilla and mild bubblegum jump out during the finish and linger a bit in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light-bodied, texture is somewhat thin, while the carbonation is pretty aggressive for the style.

There are some issues here, and it's not age since the best before date on this label states July 2nd 2012. If anything it comes across more like a Belgian Pale Ale, and even then loosely. This is one that would benefit from a recalibration of the recipe, or perhaps closer attention paid to the fermenting temperature for this particular yeast, as it certainly seems to run loose and wild in the finished product.

500ml bottle, best before July 2012.

This beer pours a very slightly hazy pale yellow colour, with one skinny finger of thin foamy off-white head, which leaves a few rearing up arches of lace in its wake. It smells right away of muted coriander and white pepper spice, and ripe banana esters, mixed in with some confounding acrid vinegar-like BMC skank. The taste is mildly wheatish in nature, some edgy grain and fruit - more of a mushy apple at this juncture - some faint clove for the spice, and an understated, but nonetheless detracting, stewed veggie essence. I'm not getting any of the proclaimed vanilla, which would go a long way right about now. The carbonation is on the south side of moderate, the body light, generally smooth, and watery for the style. It finishes as ever was - meek sweet wheat grain, middling spice and fruit, and that nagging off-flavour.

Hefe-wha? This seems pretty much like a so-so Continental hefeweizen, blended with a not so so-so Continental lager. Not particularly enjoyable, especially given the dear price for the bottle. Caveat emptor.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 3/9/11

A hazy golden yellow with heaps of tiny suspended particles but looks flat, only a thin film of head off an angry pour and just a little lace where the foam existed

S lots of spice with a little bruised banana but somethings not right, I pick up on some macro lager adjunct smell and some bleach very faint but not what I want in the background

T again I get the hefe flavors of banana, spices and a little bubblegum but a little sour citrus comes out but luckily no bleach or MGD

M thin but more bubbles then I could see in the glass but that still dose little to help, a sour grassy aftertaste leaves something too be desired

O It has what I look for in the style but also has many things I don't desire at the same time, wouldn't be my first pick

somethings just not right here, I get the hefe aspects but there's extra unwanted parts that I could deal without. I want to think its a bad bottle but I doubt I'll risk my cash on a second bottle to verify that

500ml Bottle from my girlfriend's mom, brought this back from England. Best before July 2011, served in a stange.

Pours a lght golden yellow, slight cloudiness and a finger of fizzy white head. Loads of carbonation visible in the body. Nose has some mild banana, clove and some skunkiness; green bottle is clearly a no-no. Taste is quite odd, starts off with a bit banana and finishes fizzy with a hint of the clove. Nothing going on in the palate in between this, almost no flavours present themselves (if anything, the banana persists at an extremely low level). Some skunk again. Carbonation is high, and would be more appropriate on a summer day. Not impressive, although the green bottle doesn't help this out at all.

At 4.8%abv., BB 02/01/09. Served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: choosing to serve it cloudy, it comes with a lightly murky dark yellow honey-drink colour, semi-lively carbonation full of medium-sized bubbles, topped with a thin white foam with good retention.
S: assertive in the lemon-zests and a touch of barnyard-like musty touch, backed by sweet bread, banana-flavouring, cloves, and a faint touch of salts. Overall the yeasty presence is quite mixed, neither a normal weizen nor a Belgian witbier but a bit of both, added with the sharp pear-ish sourness from an unsuccessfully bottle-conditioned English ale.
T: the effervescent mouthful of mild banana-bread with a light zesty-lemon flavour leads towards a lightly salty mineral and faintly clove-spicy aftertaste; a good grainy body sustains underneath, while the powdery yeastiness adds a bit more pleasure from the back of the palate.
M&D: moderately in fizziness and foamy on the texture, this bottle drinks much better than my previous encounter 2.5 years ago; but still, this beer lacks a clearer theme or a more pronounced flavour to make it a memorable one. Quite easy-drinking, though.

BB 27/10/06. Served chilled in a slim goblet.
4 A: dark yellowish hue, with pale orangey edge... force-poured creamy and thick frothy head; gentle carbonation with slowly-ascending bubbles.
2.5 S: lightly star-fruit aroma upfront rather than banana or clove or whatever one would expect straight-forward from a hefe-weizen or kristal weizen; lightly wheatish aroma mixed with some salts and, surprisingly, metallic note... wild flowers, yeasts and a very light trace of clove in the background.
2.5 T&2 M: again, salty-sweet fruitiness plus bready, soft white-toast-like breadiness... a touch of lemon, a touch of vanilla, a touch of medicine, here and there... but surely each sip rests on a loaf of white toast... very simplistic and o...verly light-bodied. Lacklustre I'm afraid.
2 D: maybe the least impressive attempt to mimic the hefe-weizen style by British breweries (I've tried). Compared with this brew, now I know how good O'Hanlon's wheat beer is, in terms of British efforts to make something British-wheatish~~

Appearance: golden, great clarity (until you swill in the sediment), thick layer of tight-beaded foam, great head retention

Aroma: soapy coriander and a hint of vanilla and cloves

Flavor: light malt backbone with a soapy/perfumey background flavor; wheaty and fruity

Mouthfeel: light body, crisp texture, prickly carbonation

Other comments: A good summer ale. Too cold when I poured it, but it was really refreshing that way.

Pours with a slightly cloudy yellow body, frothy head

Smell, slight banana aromas, slightly malty body also, cloves...

Taste, strong flavour of bananas, over carbonated, far too much for a wheat, clove finish, lots of cloves

A satisfactory wheat, but its safe to say that the germans do it best

Fortunately, the cloves don't completely overpower this drink (surely that must have been an obvious risk). I can't taste the vanilla at all.
Any discernable wheat-beer character was obscured for me by the cloves.
This beer was not awful, but I had run out of interest before the last mouthul from the bottle. I wouldn't buy this again, I can't really see the attraction to the blend of flavours

Imperial pint bottle drank in my friends flat for breakfast. The appearance is a light yellow colour that is cloudy. The head is white and fluffy. The aromas are of spices and yeast and the taste is similar. The mouthfeel is creamy and nice and the drinkability is pretty good. This is a decent, but not spectacular wheat beer from England!

Not good. Vanilla, clove and citrus flavours don't mingle well, fizzy mouthfeel, lightly tart. Tastes a bit artificial, tastes like they added vanilla syrup. The mouthfeel couldn't decide whether it wanted to be soft and smooth or crisp and fizzy, very odd to me.
