Living here in the mid-coast Maine can be difficult for the BA who likes variety. Maine beers are plentiful and diverse but sometimes you want something a little different. That's where small places like the Market Basket come in and fill in the gaps.
The Market Basket has a heavy focus on wine, gourmet salad dressings and coffee. Mixed in are a couple coolers full of good beer, foreign and domestic. For a Belgian devotee like myself, they have Duvel, Lindemans and a nice selection of Van Steenberge brews (Gulden Draak, Piraat, St. Augustijn). Other selections include imports from Samuel Smith's, Spaten and Old Speckled Hen. Also present are varieties of Allagash and Brother Adam's Bragget Ale from Atlantic Brewing.
Selection is small but nicely selected and fresh. Service is prompt and polite and if they don't have it out, they will check in the back for you and tell you when the next shipment is coming in.
