22oz bottle at 41 F poured into a pair of large snifters.

Pours moderately cloudy (I got the second glass), small, almost no head. Light brownish. Smell is strong ginger. Recognizing that this is a fruit/vegetable beer and it says ginger right in the title, I'm considering that for the beer, not against it. But, I don't get any other aroma, which would be nice.

Taste is strong ginger (unsurprisingly, based on the aroma), some vague bitterness -- not sure in combination with the ginger whether its a hoppy bitterness or a property of the ginger berry itself, which may or may not be bitter in itself. Some slight sweetness which helps accentuate the bitterness more than balance it.

Mouthfeel is thinnish and flat. Overall, it's interesting, but not great.

22 picked up close to a month ago at Brewer's Haven on Vista... Pours a slightly hazed light amber... definitely not brown... off white head has good retention and great lacing.

Nose is hugely ginger dominant... getting nothing in the way of "berry" except perhaps a faint tartness that could be in my imagination.

Flavor again is a ginger bomb... but surprisingly the "brown" ale qualities sorta show up as an earthy/toasty element that actually helps compliment the earthy aspects of the ginger... I did NOT expect that cooperation. That said, no berry flavor.

Body is medium but punctuated by a light carbonation that accentuates the viscosity.

This one is weird for sure... You MUST like or at least appreciate ginger... but honestly, it never ever gets that serious ginger "hotness" that can be there in boutique ginger ales and cocktails. I doubt I will ever buy this again as I see it as sorta a novelty, but I don't hate it by any means.

Oh yeah... and whatever "berries" are there are completely lost in the fray.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a reddish copper amber with a half finger white head that dissipates to a thin film, leaving light lacing. Aroma of ginger, berries and mild sweet malt, almost medicinal. Flavor is dominated by ginger, somewhat phenolic, light mixed berry juice, cider; finishes with ginger flavor and sharpness. The ginger flavor is fresh and intense, like biting into fresh ginger. Mecium bodied. The flavor is a bit overwhelming at first and after the first sip I thought I could not finish my glass, but this really grew on me. The ginger flavors are hot and piney, like ginger root, and ultimately refreshing. The malt is completely subsumed into the light berry and intense ginger, making it a bit unbalanced. I ended up liking this a lot and would buy it again, but it is one of the more intensely flavored unusual beers I've had in a while. Unlike the previous brews in this series, which were only slightly eccentric, this one is truly odd (but good if you like ginger). Strangely spicy and refreshing.

Clear reddish amber brew with a modest foam in the Kasteel chalice. Strong ginger aroma. Tingly mouthfeel with plenty of carbonation and more than a touch of acidity.

Rather sweet with a malty body. This has an IPA type of bitterness that doesn't exactly complement the other flavors. There is a slight fruity note, like grape jelly. The hops fight it out with the ginger the rest of the way. Hot and bitter with that fruity, spicy delirium.

One tiny sip at a time, this is a most interesting experience. Powerful ginger, so be forewarned. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Malt & Vine in Redmond.
