From notes taken 06/13/17:

Uniformly hazy, barely clear orange-yellow, looks like a tropical fruit drink which is a plus here given what’s in it. Off-white frothy and filmy head of lower moderate retention. Not much of a smell to it. If anything, whole lemon which I guess could be faint pineapple mixed with other sour character. Palate is much more fruity and a little more complex and distinct. Passable as pineapple and chiles but tastes more like watered down orange juice, with hints of other fruit, some caramel, and a little licorice of all things, which affect the balance. Tartness also has a funk quality to it if you seek it out, but the peppers are the most disappointing here. They are there in the form of a clear but mild spicey note which culminates in and around the finish. They might as well just be jalapeños, and not very many of them at that. Medium-bodied, almost syrupy before fine and prickly carbonation takes it to a lighter place. Carbonation does accentuate heat from peppers a little. But it also mellows in the glass significantly in the time it took me to finish drinking it, which was half an hour.

The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody has just burped forth another forgotten beer from its depths. I am fascinated by the idea that my label has the couple chillaxin' on the beach, him asleep facedown on a blanket while she is in a bikini, having a cocktail in a hollowed-out pineapple while the flamingo struts past behind them and a three-masted ship as well as flying fish & a shark's fin can be seen in the water.

From the bottle: "Ale brewed with habanero peppers and pineapple added."; "Relaxin' with a little heat and a little sweet, like a nice Hawaiian Sunburn."

I Pop!ped the cap & began a very slow, gentle pour since it was an aged bottle. Once sufficiently decanted, a vigorous in-glass swirl raised two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with good retention. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5,< 7), although it may have been closer to 7 as The Gelt Gang took a pass, with NE-quality clarity, proving that my efforts occasionally pay dividends. Nose was tart with some light heat & a tropical fruitiness that I could not readily identify. Mouthfeel was medium, but the tingly heat was quickly apparent. I also got a soft pineapple flavor, not strong or powerful, but definitely of pineapple. I did not find it "sour", but more tart and puckering with a slow-burning heat and a tropical pineapple sweetness. Finish was mildly hot, but definitely dry as a result. It was definitely a novelty & I was glad to have been able to review it, but one was enough.

Pours hazy, gold in color, with one inch head. Taste is pineapple juice with chile pepper heat. Finishes with a light body but big heat. Tasty and interesting beer, but could not imagine doing more than one at a time. Worth a try if not for the uniqueness factor alone,

you cant please everyone, and for those looking for rustic wild fermented barrel aged sours, look elsewhere. this is fine for what it is, an interesting and experimental summer crusher. its quite light on both the pineapple and habanero, i suppose the flavors are there a little bit, sweet heat, but its more of a tartness thing for me, refreshing like a lemonade with a little kick. quick lacto souring i would suppose with a normal ale yeast fermentation. the habanero has almost no heat at all, which i am just fine with. the pineapple adds a generic juicy sweetness, but this aspect could be ramped up a little bit, its pretty faint. the combination of all the elements together though is nice, its refreshing for sure, nice when ice cold, and a little something different from elysian, who hasnt dont a lot of sours that have come my way. i dont like pepper beers that are too hot to drink, so i appreciate the tamer approach there. overall a pretty unique little beer, a good gateway type sour, something with broader appeal than it sounds like it should have...
