Enjoyed out of a brown 22 oz bomber with no discernible freshness or bottling date. Poured into a 50 cL glass stein with a textured exterior.
Appearance - Like most of the other Elysian beers this one is quite beautiful. Amber golden orange body that allows the light to dance through it. Head is foamy and golden white, about two fingers thick with frothy bubbles. Retention is moderate and lacing is scant.
Smell - A well-balanced aroma that includes piney, earthy hops with bitterness, as well as some underlying bready and malt sweetness.
Taste - Like the smell, this is not a hop bomb, instead opting for the balance of a bigger malt presence. Some spiciness as well, along with earthy bitterness and resin.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with a slight chewiness. Moderate carbonation and a semisweet finish.
Overall, a tasty IPA, and one that imagine is suited well for slightly chillier months. The malt presence gives this beer some balance, but also some more heft, making it not ideal for warm weather.
