22oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a very dark brown appearing black in the glass. A one and a half finger khaki head sits atop this bold brew. Leaves some nice lacing.

S: Roasted malts, oatmeal and a surprisingly hoppy backing. A dark fermented fruit tone as well. A touch of mustiness.

T: This is quite a balanced beer. Starts off with a solid oatmeal and roasted malt character. Just a touch of hops kicks in to smooth things out, but they really aren't too bittering which is pleasant. Just a touch of booze at the end.

M: A very creamy and smooth mouthfeel on this one. Low carbonation. Very pleasant to sip on.

Overall this is certainly one well crafted oatmeal stout. Great balance and incredible mouthfeel. Keeps a rich taste without being overly packed with alcohol.

The beer is near black with a thick beige collar. The aroma is perhaps a bit weak, but what's there is nice. Roast and chocolate with a healthy grain presence. Thick, robust body with warming alcohol in the finish. A nice beer to share at a tasting, or savor over the course of an evening.

Food Pairing: Roasted root vegetables were great with this! It included sweet, redskin and yukon gold potatoes, carrot, parsnip, onion and garlic. Some salt and seasoning too. Really good, especially the sweet potato. The earthiness of the drink and the food went very well together.

A - Darkest of dark brown/red. Light scarcely penetrates its thinnest edge. Nice head with good lacing.
S - Moderately aromatic. Clean and yet unmistakably earthy. Uncut cocoa and grain. Intriguing, and a little dangerous.
T - Strong alcohol flavor right away: that 7.5% feels a lot bigger than it is. Once you push past that though, some nice rich roasty-bready flavors are lying in wait for you, and after a couple sips the alcohol doesn't have the same shock that it did at first. Molassas, coffee, chocolate. Some very subtle fruit flavors like cherry and pineapple come in with a lightly sweet finish of cream and vanilla.
M - Alcohol and hop bitterness pack a wallop! No fufu beer here. Thick, like a chunk of dark bread. None of this lingers too long though, just a bit of that creamy sensation.
O - This is sort of like a hardcore spiked cup of joe- not for the faint of taste buds nor session-seekers. This stout demands your undivided attention, and the longer you enjoy it the more it will reward you.

Thanks Eric for sharing this bomber. It pours black in color with a thin line of clarity around the edges and a thick brown head. A webby wall of lace sticks to the glass as the cap fades.

The aromatics for the most part are muted. What does emit is an overall feel of burnt grain smelling like roasty coffee mixed with a bit of citrus hop component.

The flavor is very roasted as you might expect based off the nose. Almost a borderline unpleasant acrid to ashy flavoring that is burnt and earthy. Not bad but not terribly inviting either.

This is a medium to lighter bodied brew which was unexpected for the proclamation of this being an imperial oatmeal stout. It was modestly carbonated but overall not wowing and lacked the feel associated with the style. The price point on this is set low enough that you should try it but chances are you will feel the same and desire no need to revisit.

Purchased at Safeway. Dark brown black in color, like oil. Tan head that doesn't last too long. Smells are bitter and coffee like. Taste is quite heavy. Coffee and just a hint of dark chocolate. Lightly sweet but very lightly. Strong warming presence. This beer is a meal. Took me over an hour to get through a 22oz bottle. Enjoyable but I think I'd only have this every once in a while.

Glass: Mug (My Canucks beer mug)
Dark motor oil black with no highlights. Thick mocha head that dissipated pretty quickly leaving a nice thick lacing.
Coffee, roasty and sweet malts, with a slight hint of vanilla in the aroma.
Chocolate, peaty, roasted malts, slight vanilla notes little bit of alcohol, strong coffee and hops bitter finish.
Thick full bodied with a bit of a chewy texture. mellow carbonation with a very dry finish.
