A: quarter finger head with very nice lacing on a jet black body.

S: roasted malts, hints of earthy hops, burnt toast and coffee beans.

T: very strong on the roasted malt and roasted coffee bean flavors which I love. Not a whole lot else going on with this one though. milk chocolate notes late in the finish.

M: thick body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: this is a very nice stout but its simple. the coffee presence would satisfy the coffee lover and those that like to have coffee as a note or in the background. A nice middle ground from a traditional stout and oatmeal stout.

A - Pours with one finger of medium brown foam on top of an opaque, black body. The head settles at a moderate pace and leaves a light trace of lace on the glass.

S - A roasty aroma of coffee and dark chocolate with some Bready malt notes and a touch of smoke.

T - Dark, smoky malt up font with some espresso notes. Burnt caramel in the middle and a slick oat character with a finish of dark sugar, coffee, and bakers chocolate

M - A thick, oily body, moderate carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.

D - a better than average oatmeal stout. This beer has a sweet, thick body but also the complex, dark roast of an imperial stoutl. Really a hybrid between the two styles it is more drinkable an your average imperial and more complex than an oatmeal stout, which makes for an enjoyable experience overall.

Thanks to 5000 for sending me this bottle.

The beer pours a black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of roasted malt and chocolate malt. The flavor is a little more complex. I get quite a bit of heavily roasted malt and chocolate, as well as some oats and cream notes. There is also a hint of smoke. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Review from 4/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark, dark brown amber. Small medium tan head and lacing. Aroma of dark and toasted malt, dark fruit. Very nice, calm stout, slightly understated, but well balanced. Dark toasted malt and dark fruit flavors up front, smoky malt middle and a toasted malt and hop finish. Very well done. This has been one of my favorites for years and it's very inexpensive.

22oz. bottle poured into a snifter glass

A- dark black/brown, with a very dark khaki head. Small amount of lacing

S- Hop bitterness is very prevalent for a stout, earthy in nature, burnt malt, coffee, charcoal, and dark chocolate.

T- Hops are very noticable, and bitterness is a bit overboard. You can really connect the hops back to other offerings from Elysian. Dark chocolate, coffee, and big heaps of charcoal on the back end. A bit acrid.

M- Lighter side of thick/full. Decent carbonation to move things along. Very dry on the finish for a stout, which I don't totally care for.

O- Good, but not great, there are other impy oatmel stouts I will reach for before Dragonstooth.

Black in the Blanche de Chambly tall glass. Nice dark beige head. Best feature is a creamy carbonation that adds some pleasure to the intense variety of flavors. Some nose of dark caramel.

Quite hoppy, and it gets a little too bitter in the aftertaste. Lots of very dark roasted malt. Some grainy flavors. Seriously charred barley, burnt sugar, and dark red wine. A surprising sweetness lurks in every sip, which keeps it from being a total eclipse. Hugely flavorful, but in an interestingly different way from the hot and sweet RIS style.

Surprisingly good beer from one of my least favorite breweries. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Mayfair Liquors, my second favorite store in Denver.

Bomber into tulip
A – opaque black with a restrained 1 finger tan head, no lacing, viscosity apparent on the pour 3.5
S – darker malts, unsweetened chocolate, nutty with a little something similar to licorice 4
T – Much like the smell but add more coffee up front with a twisting hop/bitterness that grows from it, not sweet, pretty dramatic stages to tasting this brew IMO, some earthy notes 3.5
M – It’s greatest strength, mild to mod carbonation and a moderate body, very nice smoothness and overall mouth feel with a mildly resiny quality 4.5
O – A good oatmeal stout, I like the minimal sweetness with moderate bitterness, pretty complex and it goes down surprisingly easy for a bigger beer, a high 4
