Enjoyed out of a 22 oz brown bottle with no discernible marking indicating bottling or freshness date. Poured into a large Belgian tulip with an exaggerated flare on the rim of the glass.

Appearance - Body is a predominantly black in color--no light passing through except for the slimmest of hints of dark maroon along the very edges. Atop the body sits a dense khaki colored head about three-fingers thick. It dissipates as some of the bubbles grow and burst, leaving a moon surface of craters along the surface before coming to rest as a bubbly film across the surface of the liquid. Lacing is pronounced and mottled, leaving ample spots along the sides of the glass as I drink it down. The liquid is viscous enough to display ample legs when the glass is tipped to coat the sides with dark, dark brown liquid.

Smell - A blend of bittersweet chocolate essence and roasted malt is the primary characteristic, with other sweeter notes like black strap molasses and cacao and the impression of coffee beans.

Taste - Roasted barley and burnt caramel complement the darker chocolate and a surprising bite of hop bitterness that imparts rich, earthy characteristics and hints of peat. As it warms, there is a more prevalent sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Creamy and full-bodied, with a moderate to low level of carbonation. Just enough to provide some counterpoint to the more viscous body. Finish includes a lingering bitterness.

Overall, one of the better oatmeal stouts I've had. Luscious and rich, but not overpowering and hard to drink. A great blend of sweet and bitter helps maximize drinkability. If Elysian were easier to obtain in my neck of the woods, I'd likely buy this one with some regularity.

Appearance- Pours a dark cola brown with three fingers of frothy, billowy mocha head.

Smell- roasted malts, dark fruits, cocoa, oats, hint of vanilla

Taste- Roasted malts and oats, bitter cocoa nibs, hint of the dark fruit and vanilla flavours. Finishes with a combo of the bitter cocoa and roasted malts/oats.

Mouthfeel - Full bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall - An A+ imperial oatmeal stout by Elysian. Excellent roasted malts and bitter cocoa nib flavour that sets the bar in this beer category.

My first Elysian beer so far, here goes.

Pours out a deep black that no light can penetrate. solid head that leaves some lacing and bubbles after 5 min. Looks like a winner to me.

Smell is right away bitter cocoa and coffee. Others are maybe some tobacco and leather, and some raisin.

Taste is very nice with a generous dose of chocolate flavors, along with an astringent roasty quality that sits well with me. Coconut and coffee hints are there, as well as perhaps some caramel and oatmeal. This oatmeal stout is creamy and luscious with just a hint of the oats to keep it a decadent and sessionable roasty stout with just a touch of sweetness.

Feel is medium carbed, with a semi slick feel, and a generous warming from it's high abv single stout status.

This is alot better than samuel smith oatmeal stout, just what I think.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Poco Grande style glass.
Pours into the glass a deep black body forming into a frothy head full of tight tiny bubbles.
Aromas of dark fruit, coffee and bittersweet chocolate.
Tastes of bittersweet chocolate, almost a bourbon barrel flavor as well.
Very smooth and creamy body with an underlying sweetness at the end.
Overall a very easy drinker for an Imperial stout, a low abv makes this super easy to drink.

Bomber poured into my big 20 oz. nonic.

A- Black, and that's it. Not light shines through. Towering, thick and creamy brown head. Great retention. Thick globs of lacing all around.

S- Roasted coffee, and some cocoa notes. Pleasant but basic; I was expecting more complexity in the aroma.

T- Sweeter cocoa/dark chocolate. The coffee from the aroma takes a back seat. Slight, subtle earthy hop character.

M- Full bodied. So creamy and thick. Sweet and just a hint of bitterness in the finish.

O- Epically drinkable. Smooth and sweet. Not as strong as most stouts with this much flavor and feel. The oatmeal has to do with that, I'm sure. Really tasty and I could drink a couple bombers in a sitting and not feel full, or wiped out.
