BOTTLE: 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass. Branded black pry-off pressure cap. Uninteresting label design.

6.3% ABV. Reviewed live as an IPA per the label. Served cold into a stem-tulip. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

No bubble show.

HEAD: One finger wide. White in colour. Nice creaminess and thickness. Soft complexion. Retention is above average - about 3-4 minutes.

BODY: Clear translucent copper of average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Appears adequately carbonated. It's not unique or special for an IPA, but I find it appealing for the style.

AROMA: Jasmine is evident, and complements the floral hop notes nicely. Pale malts. Really flowery, to a rather pleasant extent. Clean and resinous without coming off soapy. It's not piney, citrusy, or juicy, but boy do the floral notes kick ass.

A pleasant intriguing aroma of moderate strength. The jasmine is a stand-out.

No alcohol, off-notes, or yeast character is detectable.

TASTE: Jasmine flower, subsidiary floral hops, ample amounts of hoppy resins, some dank more cannabis-evocative notes, faint herbal character, clean pale malts, a dash of caramalt, and some hop oils. Bitterness is mild, but it doesn't have too much caramalt sweetness.

It's nicely balanced and enjoyable, but isn't perfect. It's complex enough, and the jasmine lends it unique nuance. But there's little subtlety, and it could of course be more intricate. Some citrusy zest might be nice. I do like it, and the jasmine makes it memorable. But it's not as fresh tasting or interesting as superior beers in the style, and lacks their complexity and subtlety. Depth, duration, and intensity of flavour are all average.

TEXTURE: Lightly oily. Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, fairly refreshing, slightly overcarbonated, and approachable. It's a bit dragging on the palate, especially in the late second act.

Not gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, or scratchy.

Overall presence on the palate is nice. This texture is a decent complement to the taste, but doesn't elevate the beer.

OVERALL: I think they could get away with a higher ABV. It's drinkable and enjoyable, and I'll easily finish the bottle with my friend (Blakelive784), but I doubt I'd buy it again. It does make me curious to try Elysian's other offerings, and the jasmine is very interesting. Worth trying, but far from world-class. A nice little IPA.

I was not a fan of the jasmine infusion.

I picked one of these up before heading over to the coast for some camping figuring that my wife might enjoy it. I have to admit we were both pleasantly surprised how the jasmine flower melds with the medium hoppiness of this IPA. If you were to drink his beer without reading the label I don't know that I would classify it as an India pale ale even though I know it is by brewing process and ingredients. At the end of the day it is a very enjoyable beer and very different in a good way. Plus you can kill two birds with one stone by getting your wife a beer and flowers in one bottle.
