Pours a deep chocolate brown with a creamy dark beige head that left one full ring of dark lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Wow cinnamon and chocolate really jump out at ya in the nose,the cinnamon is spicy and goes well with the chocolate and roasted notes.A nice creamy feel to the beer adds to it's richness and pairs well with the flavors.Mild roast and chocolate that runs into a big dose of spicy sweet cinnamon in the finish.One of the best...if not the best pumpkin beer of any style I have had,Elysian can throw down with some pumpkin beers.

Poured a deep black with a small, short lived tan head. The aroma was overwhelming chocolate and heavy malts. The taste is pretty good. The initial taste is sweet and consists of cinammon. This changes to a deep chocolate and heavy malt taste. Carbonation was medium and the beer laced the entire glass. A very good adaptation to the pumpkin beers that I am used to.

Poured from bomber into pint glass.
Dark. Very dark. Coffee brown head with nice retention and lace.
Lives up to description well. Chocolate, coffee, pumpkin, cinnamon notes throughout. Slight tangyness in the mouthfeel reflective of the alcohol.
All in all, a game changer for me. Didn't think much of pumpkin beers until I tried this one.

Thanks to 5000 for sending me this bottle. Reviewed from notes.

The beer pours a very dark brown to black color with a large tan head. The aroma has a ton of cinnamon in it, as well as some pumpkin, nutmeg and allspice. The flavor also has a lot of spices in it. I get some cinnamon, clove, allspice and nutmeg, as well as some pumpkin and quite a bit of roasted malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

I really enjoyed this beer, but not for the reasons that I thought I would. Yes, it was a thick stout, with a creamy chocolate flavour and smooth malty finish. But what really jumped out at me was the pumpkin flavour: this wasn't some tame or demure pumpkin pie overtone, this was a smash of fresh pumpkin with a sprinkling of vibrant cinnamon! I'm rarely impressed by pumpkin flavour, I tend to judge the pumpkin beers more harshly than others. I'm pretty picky when it comes down to the balance of spices, and the texture of the pumpkin. The reason this one stood out to me was the freshness; the flavour seemed to jump out of the glass, as if it had just been brewed this morning. And I don't mean it was raw or harsh, it was still smooth and creamy but with a liveliness that was new to me. I will definitely be going back for another bottle of this for Halloween night.

Pours putrid black with a nice cascading tan head that lingers pretty well and leaves good sticky lacing.

Nose is alot of roasted malt, spices, and a very odd yam-like (but clearly not pumpkin) sweet mushy smell. Almost a tart wood like smell as well.

Hmmm. Interesing. A nice beer, the pumpkin profile is not quite what i was expecting. There is plenty of pumpkin in there, but they could really use a little bit more pumpkin pie spices. The bitterness in the base stout is also a little too high for such a beer, IMO. There is almost a mini tart woodiness in here that is sort of odd as well. There is a nice little bit of roastiness on the finish, and pumpkin and slight dark bakers chocolate linger in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is pretty solid, if anything ever so slightly overcarbonated, but the viscosity is right where you would want it here. The dryness is a tad strong for the style, but ok.

Drinkability is decent, but this is a chewy and goofily adjuncted brew, so that does hamper it just a touch. Abv is actually lower than i expected, but it doesn't seem too hot in any way.

Overall a nice beer, and a good stab at a pumpkin stout. If you like this beer, definitely try and get your hands on Midnight Suns Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter (now called "TREAT") It is a similar beer, but much more balanced and perfected. That being said, i dont want to take anything away from this brew, as its an ok shot at a dark pumpkin beer, just needs a little work around the edges i'd say.

22oz bomber served in pint glass. Beer pours a deep brown with a very thin layer of lighter brown head. Faint aroma of pumpkin and spice (cinnamon or cassia?)

Flavor is flat and unremarkably bitter. Pumpkin provides some texture/body but not much in the way of flavor. Cinnamon flavor is muted and reduced to an unpleasant spiciness in the aftertaste. I can't imagine what pumpkin seeds could be bringing to this brew.

As a stout, this beer is the right color, and has a relatively heavy mouthfeel, but otherwise it doesn't hit any of the right notes. Though only hopped to 20 IBUs, there's a surplus of bitterness from the other ingredients. It got the bitterness levels of a Russian Imperial stout but doesn't have nearly the grain bill that that style requires. Pumpkin beers are a challenging style, but they can be executed well. Bring me back to CBC's pumpkin fest!

A - Black pour with a creamy brown foam on top. The nitro gives htis more air and and a better foam head, probably at the xpense of only slight lacing.

S - I got much more of a chocolae smell than pumpkin. The dark malts were pretty forward on this. There is a scent of pumpkin flesh and some cinnamon and nutmeg.

T - The drak roasted malt really overshadows the pumkin and spcie notes. While the flavors are rich and very enjoyable tastes or chocolate and and vanilla, the pumpkin flavors only were felt in the finish.

M - Actually felt heavier than it was. Not sure f the nitro dd that, or if the malty notes just felt heavier on my palate. But this is not a sessionable ale.

O - Could have passed for a porter actually. A fun example of the more extremem ends of the style but unfortunately the subtle flavors were washed out. Still enjoyable to try.

22oz bomber, made sure to stock up on this guy and the great pumpkin from the Tangletown outpost before the public caught wind

appearance: split and served in my great lakes goblet, dark brown body, creamy mocha head with a light ring of lace

smell: relatively subdued nose - some baking spices that line up with those coming from my oven at the moment - nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon. light roasted malt, baking chocolate

taste: rich and velvety - creamy chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, roasted pumpkin and pumpkin seeds. A very lovely ensemble of flavor resulting in a great stout that would be a favorite of the style year-round

mouthfeel: rich and creamy

overall: solid stuff

Served on tap at the Iron Hill North Wales location during their Pumpkin Fest on 10/25/08. Part of a Pumpkin Ale keg swap this season between the two breweries.

Pours black with a finger of burnt looking, dark tan head. Retains around the edges with some thin wisps in the center, leaving a nice looking cascade of spotty lacing behind. The aroma is mostly on the Stout side, with some roasted chocolate malts and coffee taking center stage, but there is also some lighter spice aspects that come out behind them. A bit of cinnamon and clove with just a touch of floral hops that floats amongst them.

The taste is similar with dark roasted bitterness coming out to play first, followed by additional notes of coffee, chocolate, and caramel sweetness. And yes, a subtle tingle of pumpkin pie spices does indeed make itself known. Especially in the finish, where it lingers with some leftover sweetness and lightly roasted bitter notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a firm carbonation that really accentuates the overall toasty feel of this.

Never mind the pumpkin aspects of this, I thought that this worked worderfully just as a plain ole' full flavored Stout. The pumpkin spices were just an added (and luckily not overdone) aspect that lent some warmth and Fall-like qualities to the mix. Good stuff here that I'm quite glad to have tried.

Appearance – Black with a small brown colored head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving just some light foam on the surface of the beer and light laces.

Smell-light vanilla and chocolate/ pumpkin pie.

Taste – dark chocolate flavor androasted malt with vanilla. Pumpkin flavor light, but grows more intense as the base of the glass. It is the core of the stout along with the malt.

Mouthfeel – Medium with a slight vanilla-cinnamon aftertaste. Almost creamy.

Overall – Very tasty. A fine stout. Pumpkin, not pie.

Served in a 16 oz pint glass at the Pourhouse, Westmont, NJ
