Brewed with several malty including chocolate and crystal Munich. Roasted pumpkin seeds and more pumpkin. Magnum and Saaz hops. Unfortunately the "crushed cinnamon" just overwhelms the other flavors. And then the bitterness hits.

Totally cinnamon in the nose and mouth. Dark brown with a modest head. Left most of a 12 oz glass on the bar. On tap at Elysian Fields [from notes at April 2014 visit].

Bottle purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, NY.

Pours a dark, nearly opaqu black, with a foamy 1.5 inch head, and not much lacing. Looks inviting.

Smells very, very strongly of cinnamon- it leaps out of the glass before I can actually go in and smell it. There's also a large amount of roasted pumpkin.

Though the cinnamon is ultimately a little too strong here, I do appreciate that it appears they use real pumpkin (and pumpkin seeds). I get a strong roasted pumpkin and bitter roasted malt flavor. There's not a whole lot of residual sweetness here, with the spiciness of the cinnamon, the bitterness of the roasted malt, and the earthiness of the roasted pumpkin taking precedent.

This is medium bodied, could be a bit "chewier" but it's certainly not thin. There's a lower level of carbonation, with a meaty, creamy mouthfeel.

Elysian definitely nails their pumpkin beers- the pumpkin is spot on, but the cinnamon is a little too dominant to give higher marks.

22 oz. bottle poured into a Founders snifter.

Appearance: Pours black with a two finger medium brown head. Decent head retention, nice lacing.

Smell: CInnamon up front with cocoa powder, pumpkin, nutmeg, light coffee. Almost has a pumpkin spice latte feel to it.

Taste: CInnamon dominates again, with nutmeg, pumpkin, and chocolate backing it up. Not quite as much depth as the nose would suggest, but very good nonetheless. Good amount of bittering hops on the finish is appreciated, as otherwise this probably would have gotten too sweet.

Mouthfeel: I'd call the body medium to thin. I'd like a little more body in a stout. Medium carbonation level.

Overall: Very good beer. Keeps a nice balance between stout characteristics and pumpkin.
