Appearance- Pours up almost three fingers' worth of head and seems, at the moment, to have good retention. The head is almost pure cotton white but it is slightly off-white. The body is a medium amber that appears as a pale amber when held up to the light. A good amount of lacing has already been left behind. Lacing is left in streaks.

Nose- Delicate but still interesting. Mild notes of citrus- mostly orange and lemon but also some grapefruit. Seems to be some berry notes as well, almost tending toward cherry. A bit of floral character as well. Those fade and lemon from the Sorachi Ace becomes the dominant note.

Taste- Starts off a lot more hop forward and bitter than a lot of pale ales (the brewery website says it has 57 IBUs, which I believe). Some lemon but pretty noticeable caramel replaces this with some cereal and other malt notes. Pine and resin seem to work the entire length of the flavor profile. It's not quite an IPA but it gets close. If it had more of a linger of bitterness, I would cry foul but this is simply a bitter pale ale. Some lemon but there is way too much malt and bitter hops for a pale ale in my opinion. I wonder if these were used more liberally to mask the 7 percent alcohol. It's high for a pale ale and I don't detect it at all. The clean finish, however, does go a long way. Above average, not real defects, just a little boring. Matchstick and lots of pine on the finish.

Mouthfeel- Between light and medium bodied. Appropriate amount of carbonation.

Drinkability- A little harsh for a pale ale but it does have a little more kick than usual. Too many solid pale ales out there to spend my money on this one.

Overall- Above average. Worth a try if you're looking for a different kind of pale ale or a really light IPA. I like that it salutes Sub Pop but that's not enough for me to buy it again.

A: The beer is hazy orange amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin off white head that quickly died down, leaving some lacing on the surface and a collar consisting of large bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose—tropical fruits and tangerines seem to stand out in particular—along with some hints of caramel malts.
T: Like the smell, the taste has lots of flavors of citrus and tropical fruits hops but doesn't have much in the way of associated bitterness. Hints of caramel malts are also perceptible.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer goes down rather easily and has some interesting aromas and flavors of hops. I would have no problem drinking a couple of these in succession.
