Picked this up in Totowa, having never had this before. I love Milk/Sweet Stouts and like most of the other ones that I've reviewed on here, this one certainly didn't disappoint. It's rare to find a beer this dark that drinks like a session and balances the lactose and other flavors well, but that was the case here from start to finish. Toss in a pleasing appearance and this clearly came out a winner in my book.

Loved the pour to this, as the cocoa-brown hue, silky consistency, and root beer-like head all combined for a wonderful first impression of this. I had to wait quite a bit for the foam to settle, so I could pour out the last of the bottle's contents after swishing them around. Not a terribly strong aroma to this but there were faintly present notes of coffee, milk chocolate, and a bit of baker's chocolate. The lactose and sweetness came in the the taste but they weren't overpowering. Never burnt, bitter, or boozy, a hint of soda made itself known in the aftertaste, as the carbonation, sugar, and sarsparilla/root combined to give this the crisp and cloying finish of a good soft drink.

Never did this feel strong and had there been more here, I would have easily downed another in one sitting. Most beers of this style are sweet but this leaned more towards the smooth and dark attributes that the coffee brought out in it. Fine just by itself as a dessert beer, this would be worth seeking out due to its limited release. Judge this beer by its bottle - it has a beauty and nuance on the inside that matches its artful appearance on the outside. Wonderfully smooth stuff!

Appearance is a dark chocolate brown color with a finger of fluffy beige head that dissipates quicker than expected. The nose has a mild sour note which is very odd for a milk stout. The flavor profile is very sweet – sugary sweet. The essence of chocolate is present but in much more muted terms than expected.

At the risk of sounding redundant – this offering fell short of expectations.

Pours black with a fading head.
Nose shows a well-balanced mix of roasted malt, coffee and cocoa. Sweet-smelling, reminiscent of a cappuccino.
Sweet flavours, more coffee, roasted malt and lactose sweetness. Gets a little cloying later.
Lovely creamy carbonation, feels a little watery though.
