Pale Beet Bock (Apocalypse Series No. 7).
The end of the world will be full of unexpected pairings: drought and pestilence, crushing crowds and disorienting emptiness, fire and flood. Torrent provides a moment of satisfying survival, washing over you with an earthy inundation of beet and bock, crisp but with a malty sweetness, pale but the color of hellfire. Brewed with pale, Munich and Cara-hell malts, bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished with Styrian Goldings hops. Powdered beets were added in the whirlpool for a lot of color and a touch of earthy sweetness.

Tasted like dirt. Only got more points for not being a drain pour.

Bottle.
Appearance: Orange to orange-red. Medium, frothy head. Fizzy. Nice lacing.
Smell: sweet malt and beets.
Taste: Sweet. Earthy & herbal. .alcohol
Mouthfeel: medium high carbonation. Medium body. Dry.
Overall: at first it was a decent drink. The more I drank it, the worse it got. Bitter, dirt aftertaste that lingers.

Elysian : Torrent Pale Beet Bock
The beer pours a light pinkish red color. White head forms and leaves quickly. Aroma of beets, malty sugars, cooked veggie. In the taste, more beet flavor and a little taste of something roasted, perhaps it's the actual beets, or a small portion of the malts. Small touch of earthy hops, but mostly very vegetal. Light to medium bodied, watery feel. This was a good thought but didn't translate well to beer form. Leave the beets in the kitchen next time.

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden amber in color with some moderate amounts of visible carbonation, moderate amounts of large white yeast particles in suspension, and a faint amount of orange highlights. The beer has a finger tall off-white head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of earthy beets.
T: There is a moderate to strong flavor of golden beets with a light to moderate amount of earthiness. Light amount of malts with a touch of sweetness and hints of earthy hops. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish that fades pretty quickly.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.
O: Very interesting, the name does not lie as there is a very present flavor and aroma of golden beets which is something that I personally enjoy - I'm not the biggest fan of bock beers but I enjoyed this one (and had to try it because of the added ingredient of beets).

A: The beer is hazy amber orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down and left a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of beets are present in the nose - it smells just as if you sliced some up and held them to your nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste of this beer is all about flavors of beets and doesn't really have any flavors of the underlying beer.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I'm neither a big fan of beets nor blocks, but I thought that this beer did a pretty good job in providing natural aromas and flavors of beets and didn't seem too heavy on the palate.

hiding in the cellar for awhile...
eyes...
audible head, white with about 2 fingers of height, golden with amber highlights and lots of fluff floating around, lacing is OK, the head retention is good (lots of carbonation streaming up from the depths), interesting looking
nose...
diet snapple ? a sort of sweetness lingers, old ginger ale... kind of strange, some slight dryness I suppose that is bock-like
taste etc...
at moments this is OK, but overall there is some unpleasant flavors in there, up front there is a little ashen taste, that segways into a nicer sweet flavor mixed with the bright (and nice) carbonation, it almost wants to get to a wine flavor and then recedes... sort of a blush wine type of impression (not as sharp as wine mind you), it isn't totally off putting but it isn't all that lovely... the ashen flavor is really the problem here, it wants to be a dry bock thing but just misses it, the rest of the beer is OK. the ABV is pretty well hidden.
verdict ?
failed experiment, but hey it was worth a shot, it isn't the worst thing I have tasted but it just didn't work. keep pluggin'
