The beer is an orange color. Clear, no yeast. Thick head which dissipates. When I try to smell the beer, I can tell there's something there, but my sense of smell is too weak to pick it up. The flavor is initially what I expect from a saison, but then the peppercorns hit. They work nicely with the hops. Very tasty. The spice from the peppercorns lingered, which I liked.

The beer arrives wearing light orange color, with a small hit of haze. In between opaque and translucent. Not quite cloudy, just a bit of haze to keep the light out. The head doesn't last long, so look quick. Some mostly white bubbles with little retention and just slight lace.

You can pick up the fruity nose from several feet away. Plenty of spice as well. Think peppery pineapple. The smell keeps you guessing as to what flavors will shine when you take a sip.

Initially, it's very pale ale-ish with the fruitiness and citric flavors, but the pepper builds the whole time. From mid-sip on, it's all about the peppercorns, and given the name, that's not surprising.

The peppery spice dampens the tart and acidic fruity flavors, but it's still pleasant until the very end when an extra kick of spice punches the throat. The tongue takes some collateral damage as well as this peppercorn beast takes no prisoners.

It's a really good beer, but very different. I'm used to peppery saisons, but this is intense. Still, I'm glad I had it. It's hot and will leave your palate on life support, but I lean towards fiery beers.

22 oz bomber, no freshness date. Poured into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a surprisingly clear golden color with a thin one finger white head. with very little retention and no lacing.

Aroma: peppercorn, slight farmhouse funk, noble hops.

Taste: Loads of peppercorn flavor... and little of anything else. Quite one dimensional. But it doesn't really claim to be anything otherwise. Faint fruitiness and spice but it's really all peppercorn.

Mouthfeel: Medium-lite body with some sparkling carbonation. Not a lot in that department.A little watery. Finish is dry, with a little heat coming from the peppercorns.

I like the idea of peppercorns in beer and have tried a few that I really enjoyed, All i really get out of this are peppercorns, not much as far as saison qualities go. It's okay and I'm glad I tried it. Looking forward to whats next in the Oddland series.

Got this one tonight at Brewforia Meridian for a very expensive $10.... I would expect I can find it around town for $7-8....

The brew pours lightly hazed golden with a 1 finger white head that leaves pretty decent lacing.

The nose is very saison-lite because it is hammered by the peppercorns... big black peppercorns ...malty/esters play as lite apricot and white peaches..

Flavor is similar with a lingering burn on the palate that I actually enjoy... saison qualities are pretty light and move toward light stone fruit... apricot is present on the finish and some honey notes are magnified mid-palate with warmth..

The body is light/medium and has a lesser carbonation for a saison, but still pretty okay.

Christ... This is a "food beer"... I cannot appreciate it standalone.. the peppercorns really do build burning on the palate and esophagus..

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a rich golden amber with a half finger white head kept persistent by streams of carbonation. Aroma of sweet bready malt, Belgian yeast and distinct and spicy black pepper. Interesting! There is an initial assault of fresh cracked peppercorns, then light fruit (apple and white grape) and faint malt that does lean towards a saison. Light bodied with more pepperiness from the carbonation. The pepper was distinct and forward, but I liked the level of spiciness. I was wondering whether the pepper would outlive its welcome for a whole bottle, but I actually started liking it more and more. It sounds like this is another series to push the envelope for unusually flavored beers. I really liked virtually all of the Beers of the Apocalypse and this is a great start for this series. On the other hand, if you are not a fan of fresh pepper, this may not work for you.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a dark amber color with a ¼ inch off-white head that doesn't retain long before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a small center patch of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind on the glass.

S- Sweet aroma of Saison yeast and some spice but not just peppercorn. There's also some rosemary and lavender that's just as prevalent.

T- The sweetness continues in the flavor and the capsaicin burn of the peppercorn comes in but is very subtle and complimentary letting the other spices and the yeast contribute equally. Incredibly drinkable and delicious.

M- Quite sharp and hot from the peppercorn burn but is very welcome and not overwhelming. Medium-low carbonation and a medium body.

O- As far as saisons brewed with peppercorns go, this one hits the mark as far as balance goes. Just enough heat to keep it drinkable and plenty of other elements to play off of. Would definitely buy this again.
