Poured from growler into pint glass.

Nice couple fingers light tan head.

Dark color, but seems lighter than most stouts. Good lacing too.

Smells a bit grainy and light.

Taste is also grainy. More like a porter than a stout. Still rich in coffee and smokey malt.

Very drinkable.

Overall, nothing special, but a decent growler fill.

A: Poured a deep brown with good caronation and a tannish cap

S: Roasted malts, cocoa, light citrus and oats

T: Smooth cocoa, roasted notes, oatmeal, light booze sting and a rather bitter bite on the end that lingers

M: Big body, well carbonated, plenty of taste

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a rich black color with an inch of deep tan head that very good retention and lacing. The aroma was full of rich, roasted malt flavors and just enough hops to have a presence.

On the tongue, the deep rich scent transferred nicely to flavors. Distinct grain and roast flavors have lots of character, backed by just enough hops to be noticeable. As expected for the style, the body is full and well rounded. Drinkability is syrprisingly good for a beer that often bumps up against the 10%abv level.

Overall, one of my more favorite examples of a style that I'm rarely in the mood for. During our recent cold spell I was glad this beer was there to warm me up. Worth seeking out.

Black opaque in the glass with nice creamy 1.5 finger head. Great lacing.

Smells of strong coffee, molasses and burnt espresso.

Very sweet malt and molasses start finishing with strong burnt coffee. Very well balanced with nice transition from start to finish.

Great mouthfeel, very smooth.

Three pounders convinced me this is one of my favorites! Very smooth. Just a very well balanced stout with nice sweetness.

I'm taking a growler home for more research!

I was psyched to see this on tap while visiting Collins Pub in Seattle. Served in a standard pint, the beer is jet black with a minimal tan collar.

Nice nose of sweet roasted malts, charcoal and a whiff of alcohol.

The taste is sweet with some wood smoke and coffee. There is dark chocolate, raisins and alcohol late.

The mouth could be a trifle thicker as I like my oatmeal stouts to be creamy and slightly thick. Also, the alcohol could be masked better.

Still, not a bad beer. I would have another!

Appearance – This one came out like motor oil. It’s a very dark brown in color with a dark brown head that came up modestly on a heavy pour and dissipated quickly.

Smell – This nose it very balanced. We have some good roasty malts along with an even amount of oatmeal mixed with some milk/sweet characteristics. There’s a light coffee aroma here as well.

Taste – This is amazingly balanced. The roasted malts lead the way but the darkened oatmeal is right in there. The milky sweetness, more like cream, is just enough to make the perfect compliment. The light coffee, with a pleasing bitterness, brings up the rear.

Mouthfeel – This is full-bodied but incredibly smooth. The combination of darkly roasted malts and milky sweetness really gets the saliva glands working, and that bitter finish keeps your mouth wanting more.

Drinkability – This big Oatmeal Stout should have an “Eatability” rating. It’s huge yet smooth and creamy but not heavy-handed.
