I took the family to the Schwetzinger Brauhaus in the shadow of the schloss, for dinner with a friend from work. The picture does not do justice to the sommer time atmoshere. Flowers, a castel, kid playing in the platz. families and couples as well as students walting around and oh yes lots of fresh beer. Very nice. The food was traditional as well as the beer. it was all hitting on all cylinders.

The kids liked the pretzels. and I liked the steak. The Muenchener Machen had the salmon, Very good. The boys had a very large hamburger, kinda makes a whopper look like a slider, and lots of Spatzel. The hefe was to die for. Live Oak and all you twisted hand bottlers eat your heart out this place has the real deal. NO SHIT!.

The service was very good, really no complaints here. Our server was a young Asian woman who's English was almost as good as her German so there was not problem and we got everything we wanted when we wanted it.

As for selection, the were only 4 beer styles but the food was plentiful.

The quality of the food was great, but be careful I asked for the steak to be medium and if was med-rare at the most. But that is actually How I like it. So no harm there, just a lecture for the wife.

Well what can, I say 3 adults and 2 kid just over $100 Euro. Not bad but high end. It is good to be the Koenig.

This brewpub is set catty corner from a beautiful castle that was built in 1716, which makes for a neat location.

The pub is very clean, huge, and seems to be divided into four large separate parts. These rooms range from a modern Euro look to an older sophisticated Victorian style. They even have a creepy cellar made into dining room for special events.

I was very impressed with the service. The waitress was very attentive, I mean a lot more attentive than the typical German waitress is. The menu was chopped full of variety ranging from select steaks costing up to 25 Euros, to typical German fair such as schnitzel and sausages costing anywhere from 8 to 15 Euros.
The beer selection is very limited. There are three mainstay beers: Hell, Schwartz, and Hefe Weizen. Perhaps there is a rotating seasonal, but I do not recall seeing any signs advertising a seasonal.

When it's all said and done, this is a great place to eat and have some homemade brew. I wouldn't plan a European vacation around this pub, but if you're in the vicinity of Heidelberg and you're checking out all the castles around the Odenwald, you may find yourself stumbling into this establishment.
