The beer arrived at the table a shockingly dark brown, and had I not held it up to the sun and noticed its ruby highlights I would have called this black. A light mocha head gamely tries to stay around for the duration and gives up some nice lace. Nice dark roasted malts waft enticingly upwards, with their aromas of coffee and bitter chocolate. And there it is. On the tongue wave after wave of malts bring creamy coffee and bittersweet chocolate to the tastebuds, along with hints of dark fruit, a vinous sourness and a smooth oatiness. Medium bodied and smooth, it does well in the mouthfeel, but not as well as some examples I've had.
Granted, it was a bad choice for a hot day, but it complimented my dinner well, and I can see drinking a lot of this in more suitable weather.

Poured from a growler fresh from the ol' brewery.
A- Pours a dark brown with a tainted white 2 finger head of fluff on the top.
S- Faint chocolates and malts.
T- Chocolate malts roasted nuts and creamy smooth oatmeal touch that leaves a sugary zing on the tongue.
M- Medium bodied, smooth, dry.
O- This is a good oatmeal stout that i will surely revisit. I am hoping this makes its way back to the bottling line soon. Cheers!

I walked into Mr. Goodbar in Buffalo and saw this beer on cask was on for $3.50. I hadn't tried it before, but I love cask stouts, so I jumped on that. Pours a dark brown colour with huge brown head (bartender had to tell me to wait a minute after ordering because the head had to settle down to pour more). The head was very thick, great head retention. Some lacing down the side of the pint glass. Smells of chocolate and oatmeal, with the roasted barley. Flavour has a nice mild sweetness to it. I hadn't even heard of this brewery before Sunday, but loved the stout.

Vintage 2009, been sitting in the fridge since that summer, 12oz bottle.
Pours dark brown with crimson edging. Far from opaque or black. A thin, beige head lasted shortly and dissapated to a placid surface with a few dots.
Aromatics lead off with roast, caramel, chocolate and a hint of espresso. Hints of nougat and biscuits follow through.
On the slightly fuller side of medium bodied with a grippish mouthfeel. Fairly thin for the style.
Roast, nougat, dark chocolate and a hint of ash start the palate. A slight oilyness from the oatmeal comes forward and the beer drinks fast.
Finishes with lingering roast, espresso, and rolled oats.
Tasty enough, but pretty meager for a stout. More like an oatmeal porter.

Thanks goes out to that guy with his balls in the exhaust.
Pours a nice black color with some slight highlights, a good off white quite fizzy head roils up with ease so pour slowly. The lacing left behind is ok.
Nose is a weakpoint so far. I thought it may get a bit better as it warmed, but that was not to be. Some dark malts in the nose, a wierd metallic, coppery note as well. Maybe a splash of anise.
Taste is kind of odd. It starts of with a touch of the metallic flavor that i described in the nose, but nowhere near as strong as it was in the smell. Quickly changes gears though, and starts featuring a roasted malt quality. Sort of hidden amongst the thinness. Strange. I'm not getting any of the signature oatmeal slickness in here either. Towards the finish, much of the flavor is dampened by the overcarbonation, but there is some slight dark fruit and a bit of a hop kiss. The aftertaste is mostly a bitter malt twinge.
Mouthfeel has some real issues in the bottle. This one is overcarbonated. Not to gusher status, but if not poured like liquid nitrogen, this one will rise quickly out of the glass. The mouthfeel is also just thin in general. Kind of odd to feel the roasted malt presence through the middle with such a thin body.
Drinkability is not bad, but would be better if the flaws in the mouthfeel werent so pronounced. Not sure of the abv here, but Im putting it around 5, maybe 6. I could put away a couple of these, but it would seem like a bit of a chore with the overcarbonation.
Overall, this is not a bad beer by any means, it just has some serious mouthfeel and body issues that need to be repaired. The Oatmeal could also be amped up a bit here, as it was thin there as well. I have heard that this one is a treat on cask, which i can see, as it might kill some of that excess carbonation and maybe take a touch of the metallic notes out. Not a horrible beer at all, but defenitely not an attention grabber either. Give it a shot, but don't go into it expecting a new favorite.

Poured very black with a creamy tannish head. Smell was very mild with nothinhg other than the caskish aroma coming through. Taste was good that matched the style as you would expect. Was a little thin and lacking some carbonation but very smooth. Drinkability for me is high. Served at about room temperature and it was one that I could sit back with all night. Good brew.
