Served from a 16 oz bottle in Columbia, PA

The beer pours a beautiful, burnt cienna color and produces a thick, 3 finger tan head into a 20 oz glass.

The aroma is mild and is yeasty with roasted malt.

The taste is of molasses and carmelized apple without a hint of citrus. It is slighty sweet but not cloying and has a clean after taste.

The carbonation is mild to medium. All-in-all, this is a crisp, refreshing Dunkel; about on par with Franziskaner but not as good as Weihenstephaner.

Picked this up at Oak Barrell in Hagerstown. Excellent looking beer, darker than many which I liked, had that delicious look. Smell was odd, more of a caramel than wheat. Taste was outstanding, very smooth and easy to drink. This was quite the surprise, I liked it very much but may not buy often as others I like more that cost less.

500 mL bottle poured into a straight-sided glass.

Appearance - Murky dark brown. Huge khaki head. Settles in a while to a thick collar.

Smell - Caramel and lightly chocolatey malt. Some wheat. Yeasty aromas overtake the malt, especially as it warms. Some banana and some brighter esters come through.

Taste - Wheat is stronger here. So are the darker malts. Caramel and some chocolate. Yeastiness takes over. Sharper, brighter flavor into the finish. Grainy finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Well carbonated.

Overall - I've never thought that the wheat and dark malts have worked all that well together, except in rare circumstances. This is lacking that special quality, but still tastes pretty good.

500ml bottle into nonic pint. best before january 2015, enjoyed on june 11, 2014

a: super murky dark brown with a bit of a chestnut glow around the edges. nearly three fingers of head off of an aggressive pour, but quickly fades. ugly but pretty

s: mostly toast, roasted malt, spice, and raisins. slight yeast, some chocolate, and hints of overripe bananas. quite nice

t: in three words: toasted raisin bread. toast, raisins, spices, and bits of chocolate. less prominent dark fruit flavours in here too, like figs and dates. timid yeast and banana notes. finishes malty/bready. very sweet overall, and heavy on the toasted raisin bread side, but it's good

m: light to medium body. the carbonation is medium-to-high and feels really sharp, almost biting, upon suds-tongue contact

o: my first dunkelweizen ever happens to be very flavourful, though one-sided, while being simultaneously drinkable -- this beer went down ridiculously fast. definitely wouldn't mind having more in the future
