Poured from a bottle marked 06/2006 into my Weizen glass, this beer pours a dark, dark, dark brown! Super dark, like a porter. Murky and almost opaque. It barely even lets light through at all! Thick, fluffy, energetic dark tan head rises and rises and as I pour the yeast it just gets fluffier and more poofy. There are huge (1/2") bubbles of carbonation working their way up through the 2.5" head and bursting. The head fades down after a time to a tan-brown ring, then dissappears completely, which brings down the score (if it stuck around more it'd easily be a 4.5).
This one is all Hefeweizen in the scent. Banana, bubblegum, toasty marshmallows with a tiny spice chaser. I wasn't sure what I was getting into with Erdinger but the scent is very appealing. Smells just as good or better than my old standby Franziskaner. Let's hope it tastes as good...
Mmmm, definitely a great, great Dunkelweizen I've got on my hands! I'd have to do a blind taste test with Franziskaner to decide which I like more. All of the tastes I hope for are there; That fruity, smooth, yeasty combination of bananas and wheat with a tiny finisher of cloves and a tiny astringency of alcohol, just the way I like it. It tap-dances around the whole palate, making friends with every bit.
Smooth, smooth on the tongue, just a little crisp carbonation; Very light mouthfeel with a creamy aftertaste, just the way I like my Weizens, which are my light, happy, easy to drink and enjoy beer.
Wow, I can't believe I'm giving this such a high rating... But damn, it deserves it! I can't think of any reason not to love this beer. It's so easy to drink, tasty, and satisfying. It has all the flavors I love with an awesome crispness, nothing cloying or extreme. Cheers!

Picked this up at Oak Barrell in Hagerstown. Excellent looking beer, darker than many which I liked, had that delicious look. Smell was odd, more of a caramel than wheat. Taste was outstanding, very smooth and easy to drink. This was quite the surprise, I liked it very much but may not buy often as others I like more that cost less.
