Serving Type: A lovely 1pt .9fl oz bottle that I have had sitting in my mini-fridge for about a month

Appearance: Pours a lovely dark brown(almost black) w/ a lovely off white head that lingered. Plenty of lacing

Smell: Soft wheat, a touch of coffee...nice and mild is the key w/ this beer

Taste: Smooth...goes down easy and has a very great taste. Not a Hefe-Weizen really but a nice dark wheat beer. Some roasted/dark grains w/ some citrus flavour(very light)

Drinkability: I was expecting a Hefe(and if you are...don't drink this beer because it is not a Hefe) but it rather enjoyable. A nice mild beer that goes down easy. (630 characters)

Appearance – Very dark with a rising head that went down slowly.

Smell – Nice, dark burnt malt aroma.

Taste – Roasted malt flavors dominate this bier. The burnt nature of this ale works with a slight molasses sweetness to quench the pallet.

Mouthfeel – Flat and smooth; medium-bodied.

Drinkability – This went down well. It’s definitely not a session beer, but probably a good one to have on tap if you can find it.

Comments – This is currently labeled as a dunkel weitzen. It is completely off-style from this and is more like a classic German schwartz (black) bier. I rated this in accordance with this style. (633 characters)

Poured into a hefe glass at Tiroler Hut in London.

A- very dark with caramel brown highlights and a big fluffy white head holding some yeast.

S- not a lot here. I was expecting banana, clove and a little roast, all I get is some sweet grain and corn.

T- like the nose the flavor is seriously lacking. Grainy wheat and a hint of toasty bitterness, and some metallic yeastiness.

M- medium to medium light in body but with the creamy wheat character and high carbonation I expect of a hefe.

O- I was very disappointed by this beer. Fortunately I drank it after finishing my excellent Austrian meal so it did not get in the way of that. (639 characters)

mid sized bottle, with best before dating. Pours the expected dark chocolaty brown with a faint tinge of plums, head quickly goes bye bye and this leaves no lacing (booo). Fruity nose, mouthfeel is kind of sharp and prickly and flavor notes are suprisingly minor, just some cola, overripe bananas and a slight metalic finish, yuck, there are much better dunkle weiss beer out there, give this one a pass, I wish I had... (420 characters)

Pours a slightly hazy medium brown with a big blooming white head that settles pretty quickly leaving no lace behing, aromas of banana, smoke, and clove dominate here staying true to style wich is very nice.Pick up some banana and clovey spiciness up front flavor wise, finishes with a black liquorice flavor I havent encountered with this style I have to say.Not very complex but enjoyable pretty straight forward and thats ok,not bad I would try again some time for sure. (470 characters)

Had this in Shanghai at the intercontinental.

A huge fluffy light tan head sits atop a dark brown brew. Smells of banana, citrus, coriander and a bit of pine. The taste does not live up to the promise of the smell. A dull intro is followed up by malts mixed with faint bananas and a bit of spice. Mouth-feel is smooth and light-bodied. Carbonation is fairly active. (366 characters)

Pours dark brown with a massive tan head that lasts the duration of the glass.

Faint, musty aroma with a nutty, cocoa not. Not very typical in a bad way.

Almost void of flavor aside from some chocolate malt and faint hefe yeast. The carbonation is soft, the finish is quick and clean, but in the end, it just doesn't deliver. (327 characters)

Pours a bubbly dark brown with a foamy tan head. It looks a lot like root beer.
The aroma is loaded with toffee, bread and ripe banana.
A tasty brew. Lots of bread and toffee with a little banana and spice. Nice slightly bitter and refreshing finish.
Mouthfeel is smooth and bubbly.
This is a very easy drinking beer that goes nicely with food. (346 characters)

Labeled as "Erdinger Hefeweizen dunkel" in Germany -- tasted in Berlin.

Served in 0.5l branded weissbier glass. Presented as a dark, ruddy brown beer with some near black depth. Think, creamy foam lace with lost of stamina.

Slightly astringent, tight carbonation feel which induces a creamy mouthfeel and smoothness on the palate. Light malts, touch of chocolate, caramel and molasses. Hints of banana. Mineral body and flavour, with a thin citrus hop flavour that matches the malts and balances things out quite nicely.

A most delicious dunkel weissbier. A highly recommended brew ... from this expert weissbier brewer. (629 characters)

Nice dark pour, extremely foamy for this type of brew, taste was enjoyable but somewhat light and thin for a weisbier, sort of reminded me of what a lite American malt liquor would taste like. It was OK but not at the top of my list.Weissbiers should be a little bolder than this. (280 characters)

Presentation: 500 ml tall brown Euro style bottle with a “best before end” freshness date on the back label.

Appearance: Nearly black with hues of tarnished ruby, thick powdery tiny bubbled lace lays on top then drops down to a thin stable lace.

Smell: Fruity with tones of prune and black currants, light alcohol esters are in the nose also. Malty with a mild spiciness in the aroma.

Taste: Bold and crisp upfront with a spicy tingle that is enhanced by the medium leveled carbonation. Solid and clean maltiness on the palate, crisp snappish wheat with undertones of caramel and bread. Hops are subdued with little in the flavour, fruity from middle to end with dark fruit flavours. Mild cocoa and husk flavours drawn on a dryness, alcoholic esters gather towards the end. Dry in the finish though there are a few left over residuals in the mouth so hold the body together far into the end.

Notes: Spicy with a clean zip, rich malty flavours from start to end. This makes for a near stellar brew of such a delicate style. (1,046 characters)

Pours a hazy, deep brown body with a beige head that rises about an inch before falling flat. No lacing. Aroma is subdued, with some dark fruits(mostly figs), spicy clove, and a note of ripe banana. I really enjoyed the mouthfeel which is smooth, almost creamy, yet well carbonated. Light medium body. Taste is mostly dark roasty malts, with toffee and dark fruits(more figs), a hint of chocolaty Munich malt, spicy clove, and minimal hops bitterness. Well balanced, but I would have preferred more assertive hops bittering. Very understated, overall, but well constructed and pleasantly drinkable. (598 characters)

Pours dark brown with a fluffy white head. Strong caramel malt presence in aroma as well as the flavor. Slight smoke presence in the flavor as well. Light-medium body and a very easy drinker. Medium carbonation. Drank this with some homemade venison German sausage and it was outstanding. (288 characters)

On a bit of a dunkel kick - now for another old favorite.

Pours a very dark brown, just a hint of russet when held in the light. Leaves a foamy 1 inch head, which encirles the glass and leaves a bit of lacing.

The smell didn't impress me at first, but I figured that I had the beer too cold. I put it in the fridge with everything else and sort of forgot about it, so when I took it out, it was very cold. As it warmed up a little in the glass, I started getting caramel, dark malts, spicy fruit and wheat on the nose. Still very subtle, but the smell was there.

The taste is malty and fruity (figs or plums) with caramel and just a hint of hops. Runs sweet to bitter.

Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, giving the beer a smooth character. Almost creamy (probably the result of the head still being around halfway through the glass).

A highly drinkable dunkel, not my favorite, but certainly worth a go. I'll keep an eye out for this one on tap (and will make sure I let it warm a little next time!) (1,003 characters)

Appearance: very dark brown , almost black , with an inch of tan foam.

Smell: a bit of light fruitiness , hint of not quite ripe banana , and some very faint chocolate.

Taste: light and crisp maltiness , bit of chocolate , twangy wheat , bit of darker bread flavor , hints of mineral.

Mouthfeel: slightly creamy from the carbonation , then crisp.

Drinkability: a very drinkable dunkel weizen , a refreshing tonic of a dark brew. (440 characters)

Bottle served into a pilsner glass. Best before May 2013.

A: First dunkel I've had but I guess this is a good looking one. Lightly clouded dark brown color with a big off-white head.
S: Light fruitiness (apples/banana), and caramel malts. A bit grassy/bready. Pretty good.
T: Opens with a bready flavor. A bit of apple and spices in the middle. Finishes with a clean malty caramel flavor.
M: Light/medium bodied with a bit of a high carbonation. A crisp and smooth finish. Leaves some stickiness in the mouth.
O: First ever dunkel but I'd gladly try more. A good beer that I'd drink again. (595 characters)
