11.2 oz bottle poured into a weizen glass.

A: Pours a cloudy dark gold color. The head is a three finger white shade with that has a foamy appearance to it. Retention is really nice, too.

S: Not only are the typical banana/clove estery aromas lacking here...so is just about anything else. About the only thing I really notice is a mild cherry-like sweetness and the faintest hint of wheat. Not really a bad aroma - after all, how can a nose so weak be considered bad?

T: Well, the aroma suggested a feeble flavor, and that's what I got. While the lack of weizen esters allows the opening wheat quality and finishing noble hops to shine through more strongly, it really drinks like a dinky-ass US wheat ale (think Widmer Hefeweizen) than a proper German hefeweizen. Okay, so a slight banana presence builds up after a few sips, but by then it's too little, too late. Just a boring beer in all flavor aspects.

M: The texture does a good job of staying out the way of the lack of flavor by finishing with a mildly clean dryness to it. I could do without the budding wet, syrupy linger, but I'll certainly give it points for being refreshing and crisp.

O: A score this low would suggest a mediocre-to-poor effort riddled with flaws - however this isn't actually flawed, just devoid of any good weizen characteristics...or any characteristics for that matter. This one is certainly easy to down, at least. But when both Sierra Nevada and Weihenstephaner make weizens that are both superbly drinkable AND full of character, why should you care about this one?

Poured into a Guinness glass from a 16.9oz bottle. Best by 09/2014

A- Pours a hazy golden straw yellow with a high fluffy white head.

S- Got a very light typical Hefe aroma with slight spices and banana.

T- Got some bitter yeast character, slight spice and banana. Finishes pretty light and a bit watery.

M- Light and a bit watery even for a Hefe.

O- This is a pretty weak example of the style. Not much flavor and a bit too light in the mouthfeel. If you are choosing pick up a Hacker Pshorr or Weihenstephaner.

Appearance: Straw yellow color with some accents of orange. Slightly cloudy body. A finger of head on the pour which settled in at about half a finger. Average active carbonation for a hefe.

Smell: Prairie grass, straw, and lemon jump out right away. Fruit tones of mangos and tangerines compliment the peppercorn aromas. Subtle wheat and oat body warms up the nose. Slight tingle of some alcohol and bubbly carbonation. Very bright overall.

Taste: Subtle lemon lime accents pop up first but quickly yield to an easy going wheat body. Light bready tones toward the back end of the body. Tones of straw and lemon round out the flavor and linger on the palate after drinking.

Mouthfeel: Sharp carbonation. Lemon bitterness throughout. Balanced wheat tones.

Overall: A solid hefe but it was not as active on the flavors as I expected after the aroma. The lemon lime tones are potent and interesting. Would certainly go back to this again.
