Poured from a 330 mL. capped bottle (Best Before End 05-2012) into a weizen glass.
A moderate pour yields a fluffy off-white head that takes up nearly half the glass. After a few minutes, the head slowly fades to about a 1-finger coating that lasts to the last drop. The body is a cloudy straw gold with carbonation bubbles streaming upward from nearly every conceivable portion of liquid. Some thick lacing can be seen sticking sporadically to the glass in soapy clumps.
Wheat is definitely the primary component of this nose with just a touch of citrus in the background. Notes of lemon peel and orange rind are present with just a bit of green banana. The lack of banana in the nose is a little off-putting.
Like the nose, the initial taste is primarily wheat with just a touch of citrus peel. Almost no banana can be found and certainly no bubblegum. As the beer is swallowed, a banana cream flavor comes out a bit and is soon met by more grainy wheat flavors. The oily citrus flavors cling to the crevaces of the mouth and last the entirety of each sip. A wheat, chalky green banana flavor persists as a light aftertaste between sips.
The body is light and easy-drinking with a good amount of meatiness that gives this beer a smooth mouthfeel. The carbonation is good and fizzy (as would be expected) and creates a nice foamy but satisfying swallow.

A: Orangey straw. Nice big white head.
S: Caramel – very unexpected. Grainy too. Has a bit of sherbet and smells almost like a Tripel.
T: Grainy and cardboard like. Nice amount of bitterness and a bit of laquer/nail varnish from the alcohol – nice. Has some citrus, sherbet powder and orange squash to fight the papery graininess. There's some pleasant liquorice in there too. Rhubarb and citrus in the aftertaste.

500ml bottle poured into weizen glass. best by 12/12.
a: hazy orange color with a three finger white head. dissipates to a half finger within a minute.
s: lots of light orange aromas and lemon. very pleasant; not too many spices going on. bit of a wheaty note as well but the citrus dominates.
t: a solid wheaty note to the beer, not too much banana/clove at all, which i would expect, and not very much of the orange/lemon aroma in the flavor. strong carbonation but a bit watery in flavor.
o: a competent hefeweizen. frankly, though, i can think of a half dozen other german breweries that make a widely available hefeweizen, all of which i would pick up before this.

Hazy, dirty, apricot blonde. Almost nothing in the way of the banana/clove yeast profile requisite for the style. Easy drinking, mild bitterness, with a thick wheatiness and hit of grass on the finish. Probably the worst of the hefeweizens produced by the big German breweries. It's a style that's hard to do well, and Erdinger has yet to figure it out, but at least they date their bottles.

Taste - Interesting. A very light banana crosses my palate but
otherwise unlike most other hefeweissens. Reminds me more of an American wheat.
Overall - Not bad. It wasn't what I was expecting though, and if I were to go off of hefeweissens I've had, I'd call it a pale imitation. On its own merits, I could see myself drinking it again.

Served into the Erdinger glass that commemorates its 125th anniversary (quite a cool weissglass).
A nice clear translucent yellow with topped with an incredible head that stays around for a little while.
The smell is quite a turn down, can't get nothing but what seems to be some faint fruity odor.
The tatse is just OK for what it is, a nice carbonation makes it quite drinkable.
Overall an under the mean Weissbier, nothing to do with the Erdinger Dunkelweiss an outstanding brew.
