Poured into my weizen glass after warming out of the fridge for a few minutes. On the back label it claims to be "the world's most popular wheat beer". When I went to pick it up at my local LCBO there were just a few left so the claim holds some truth I suppose. This bottle has a best before date of March 2010.

A: Poured a medium hazy straw colour with a two inch rocky white head which had poor initial head retention. The head faded to just a thin cap on top of the beer and remained that way.

S: Spicy clove, weak traces of bubblegum, and some apple phenols. A typical hefe only lighter (even after the beer had a significant amount of time to warm).

T: Grainy upfront and behind you find those typical flavours found in a hefe. Light clove, hint of bubblegum but that's about it. It's mainly just grainy like a hefe watered down with a light lager.

M: Slightly heavier than light body with light carbonation (for the style at least). The palate feels clean after like after drinking a fresh glass of apple juice but there's not flavour to go along with the cleansing mouthfeel.

D: With the alcohol being so low I could have a few of these. However, since the taste and mouthfeel aren't really all they can be I'd have to say this one has mediocre drinkability.

I really tried to like this beer. Served it cool and enjoyed it slowly until it warmed. However, nowhere in this process could I get hooked on this particular beer. I wouldn't buy it again but I could see it being a good transition beer for light lager drinkers just getting into hefe's...

Served in 0.5 liter wheat glass. Poured the typical cloudy yellow of Hefe's, with a big, fluffy, white head that didn't have much retention and left good lacing.

The aromas were very muted and soft for the style, with the expected banana and clove most noticeable. The flavor profile was much like the aroma, soft and muted, with nothing standing out.

The body was also typical, full without being heavy, and nicely smooth. Drinkability was great, you could drink these all day, very easily. Not as flavorful as a lot of Hefe's, this one is still worth trying.

500ml bottle july 18 2009

A cloudy golden yellow, did not want to stay in my glass, big fluffy head that dies pretty quick, very little lacing

S some citrus perhaps sweet grains not too much, tiny bit of banana

T not overpowering clove, banana, wheat some citrus not bad but not great

M/D big on bubbles a little thin but on this 30 degree day this is sinking like a ship, very easy to drink

i dig it good summer beer

Poured from a bottle into a hefe glass.

A: Pours a cloudy golden yellow. Enormous fluffy white head jumps out of the glass and stays around for quite a while.

S: Not much here. I get a little lemon and a faint bit of banana. Nothing else I can pick up.

T: Nothing really stands out on this one. Wheaty and a bit of citrus. Unoffensive.

M: Lots and lots of carbonation. Light and crisp.

D: It goes down easy enough. I could probably drind a few of these without much trouble. It is relatively refreshing and could be quenching on a hot day.

Notes: There are much better hefes out there. This one is decent, but forgettable.

This beer has some serious head. Pours a chalky dark honey color. Looks like a proper hefeweizen. The head lingers nicely to the end at about 1/4" and the beer laces nicely.

The aromas is faint. A hint of wheat or grains. Ummm...yeah. That's all I get.

The taste isn't bad, but is very subdued. I'm picking up a slight bit of creamy banana, some lemon zing, and just a trace of spicy clove, but the hefewiezen flavours are like Waldo in this beer; they're there. But you have to look long and hard to find them.

Mouthfeel is decent, medium with a nice tart finish--this is a seriously carbonated beverage.

Overall it just feels like a dumbed down version of a hefe, which is odd because in my opinion this is one of the more approachable styles even when done well.

Yeah. Of the six hefewiezens available to me, I'd reach for one or two or even five others before this.

Odd for a heffeweisen as there is very little to no banana smell. Tasted more like a straight wheat beer or even a thicker pilsner. However, as such it was very good and tasty. My wife had it and she enjoyed it as well. Would recommend this if you see it.

Pours a very hazy orangish color with a full thick head. Flavor is fruity, kind of citrusy, and a touch of grain character involved as well. Not as spicey as many German Wheat Beers, but is decent nonetheless. The mouthfeel is a bit lively and the body is very smooth. Finishes rather dry and grainy.

The low scores have me bracing for the worst.

Absolutely exceptional head with fabulous retention. Hazy, pale straw body abetted by an army of top-flowing bubbles make for a model hefeweizen.

Hardly any scent other than faintest clove and a weirdly high amount of pilsner malt. Yeast definitely gets lost here.

Taste isn't bad at all; much more apparent bubblegum with less spice on the palate. Slightly zingy citrus presence but mostly understated and plenty easy to drink.

Honestly, I can't figure out why this is so underloved. Sure, there are at least a half dozen other German hefes I'd seek out first, but this is more than drinkable and the body is executed deftly. Good beer.

Pours a cloudy yellow color with maybe just a hint of orange. Starts with a thick white head that lasts, reducing down to a bout a 1/2" after a time.

Smell is very bread like, a lot of yeast and malt notes. Can also detect just a hint of banana.

The taste has a lot more banana then the smell would indicate. There's a bit of spicy sweetness as well, also a bit of a citrus taste. There is just a slight bit of hops at the finish.

The feel isn't bad, I think it's helped by a high amount of carbonation. The taste is a bit bold, and lingers a bit after you swallow.

I have limited experience with this style of beer. I first tried it on tap at a local German restaurant, and liked it so well I bought a 6 pack of it. I quite enjoy this one, it's a nice drinking beer that doesn't ask much from you, but is very refreshing, and one I enjoyed quite a bit.

500 mL bottle poured into a pint glass.

Cloudy, off-white beer with a medium-thick, white head.

Nice smell, faint hints of grapefruit.

Bitter taste dominates over anything else, but there are some complexities to it.

Mouthfeel is light and carbonated, very nice.

Appearance: Presents a quite cloudy, dull, muted gold-toned body with a half inch of fizzy, white head. Give me your best shot, Erdinger!

Smell: Notes of clove and yeast lead followed by lesser touches of malted wheat and barley. Well, it's definitely not the most bountiful aroma on the block.

Taste: Mildly tangy-tasting malted wheat along with some simply barley. Lightly sweet. Good pinch of earthy spices with flavors of coriander and clove. Sadly lacking in fruity touches of banana. Bit of lemon. Spicy, floral hops with a medium-low bitterness. Finishes dry, spicy, and somewhat crisp.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, but lacks the creaminess of many of it's wheat-based brethren. Medium-high carbonation -- a bit too fizzy for me.

Drinkability: Average, at best. Comes up short in both the flavor department and texture of body, but one thing it isn't lacking in is carbonation. There are many far better hefes to be had out there.

S - lots of citrus notes, lemon and pineapple

T - smooth sweet banana flavor

M - soft and smooth, medium carbonation that diminishes to become rather thin

D - decent, but not very interesting in flavor or mouthfeel.

Hazy gold with a loudly fizzing white head. Spotty retention struggles to hold together and eventually evaporates. Wheat beers deserve better.

Smells is juicey with coriander, lemon, and orange juice.

Smooth banana, lemon, and apricot with a peppery aftertaste. Not much of a yeasty presence at all.

My biggest problem with this beer is that it lacks personality. Ho hum.

A-Cloudy orange/brown, similar to most hefeweizen's, and a nice white head

S-Wheat, a very slight hint of licorice

T-Smooth and sweet, a little bit of oatmeal and grains. Some hops but not really ovbvious enless you pick at it, and has somewhat of an licorice finish that lingers in the back of your mouth

M-Not overally carbonated, very smooth and clean

D-Very drinkable especially during the hot summers

This is my home brew - yep I was born and raised in Erding so i should maybe show some beer patriotism in reviewing this is nonetheless not quite as good as other representatives of the Hefeweizen family:

A - Looks like a good Wheatbeer should - cloudy golden orange

S - First let down still smells like a wheat beer but somewhat less enticingly so than say a Franziskaner or Weihenstephaner

T - Same as above tastes like a Hefeweizen but slightly sour so...

M - Feels good nice carbonation not too dry

D - All in all still a very drinkable brew

.5 L bottle into weihenstephan weizen glass. lets see how this 'fine yeast' has matured in the glass.

A - the big white head is quickly dissipating despite the slew of bubble trains coming uip from the bottom of the glass; at least it is keeping a small layer on the top. the body is a solid yellow colour, only gets more orange when it is kind of obscured from light. no lacing at all; but the bubbles do keep coming (from my glass being so awesome, I would expect)

S - some yeast notes. not quite a neat flavour, but nothing certainly jumps out. some light grass notes, maybe... I doubt it though.

T - the lack of any distinctive taste at first gives the impression that I am drinking some sort of soda water, not a beer. not a good start. the initial tastes are slightly hoppy, only during the finish does any real flavour come out: some continued hop flavour. the aftertaste sees some sweeter fruits: maybe ripe bannana.

MF&D - there is far too much carbonation in this beer. period. feels more like a can of pop than a beer--for serious.

A: Pour cloudy golden color with peachy tones. 1 inch frothy head that disipates quickly. No significant lacing.

S: Faint smell of wheat and lemon. A hint of bananas.

T: Very subtle flavors. Wheat, banana, some citrusy hops in the background. Not nearly as full flavored as some of the better hefes.

M: Moderate cardonation, nice and smooth.

D: Easily dinkable, but kind of bland. There are far better hefes out the there, but this one is still enjoyable.

Taste: A nice blend of wheat and some yeast bit. Its simple and not really complex, but refreshing.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and a full medium body with a nice aftertaste.
Drinkability: Great its simple and fun. It is really easy to drink and has an appropriate amount of flavor.

Pours a hazy, golden color. One and a half inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of wheat, yeast cleanliness, slight sweetness, and slight citrus aroma. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp/slightly chewy with an average carbonation level. Tastes of wheat up front, yeast cleanliness next, some pale euro malt comes through strongly, and the finish is some citrus flavors (yeast characteristic). Overall, a pretty smooth Hefe with a good body.

I am not normally a fan of this type of beer, but was at rockwell's in Grand Rapids and grabbed this one because it was super cheap at the time...and I was very pleasantly surprised. it has a strong honeyed flavor but wasn't overpowering. Overall, this was just a really refreshing beer that I could see being able to have a few of without getting tired of it. I could see it as a regular session beer in the spring or summer.

Poured hard from the bottle into a pint glass. Creates a massive white head, but it goes away far too fast for a hefe. It leaves quite a bit of lacing. I ordered this not exactly knowing what to expect ( I think this is the first time I've had this) and was hoping for a bigger smelling hefe to make up for the one I had last night (Shiner). I was a bit disappointed. Theres some faint citrus notes in there but not much else. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, even for this style. There's some yeasty flavors in there, some citrus and quite a dry finish for a wheat. It's highly carbonated. Not bad, but there are better German hefes out there.
