Bottle into Erdinger Weisbier pint glass (how apt!). My bottle displays its name as simply "Kristall", but the ABV and labels match.

A: Pours a hazy but transparent yellow-gold with a thin head of fair retention and little cream. Generally appealing.

Sm: Musty one-note scent of malted barley. A poor aroma, but thankfully a light one.

T: As lacking as the smell. One empty open to a single generic note of barley with a lacking finish. Poorly balanced and poorly constructed. A bit of vanilla on the finish - strange for this style.

Mf: Lumpy. No joke. Far too heavy on the tongue for how little flavour its taste contains. A bit overcarbonated. Too smooth. It's almost got the thickness of syrup without the sweetness. Alarmingly dense. By far the worst part of this beer (and hitherto the worst characteristic of any Erdinger brew I've ever tasted). There's a hint of coarseness on the finish which is kind of nice.

Dr: Won't buy it again, won't have it again, won't speak of it again. A damned disappointment for Erdinger. Not bad tasting, just empty. It should be said that it hides its ABV well, however (1,119 characters)

This is a disappointment. A real yawner from an otherwise very good brewery. In removing the yeast they've also removed all the rest of the character. Almost no aroma, very little flavor. Light head and very little lace. The body isn't too good either. Very sharp hard carbonation in the mouth. It's just beer. That's it and that's that. (337 characters)

This tastes like a German's take on a Bud Light with more wheat. Pours fizzy yellow with an oversized white head. Corn, wheat, sugar, and metal in the aroma. Wheat with very little bubblegum and clove flavors which quickly disappear for a lager-like finish. (257 characters)

Tastes more lagery than anything like a wheat beer, their regular wheat isn't that flavourful anyway, so why the hell would you want to drink a filtered version of it, kind of tasted a bit artificial aswell. (207 characters)

Review following the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 15A). Bottle 50 cl - Batch L291107. AROMA: light wheat aroma with faint vanilla notes and a sweet background. no hops, diacetyl or DMS aromas present. APPEARANCE: gold color and translucid (kristall version). average white and moussy head with average retention. TASTE: grainy and bready flavours with faint wheat character. some vanilla notes and finishes sweet. very low bitterness. no DMS or diacetyl. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a bulk filtered weizen that lacks the aromas and flavours of a standard weizen. (595 characters)

After pouring this brew in a glass it had a golden hue with tight white foam. After that it was all down hill. Where was the wheat? It had no bitter taste, but it like drinking a type of lager with no flavor. Pleasent after taste, but after taste of what? First and last time! Where's the Wheat?????? (300 characters)

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow/ripe banana color with clear edges and a 2.5 finger fizzy bubbly head that slowly dissolves. This bear isn't very "clear" at all actually. It's a little less hazy than a regular German wheat beer but is still kind of dark and cloudy.

Earthy aroma with subtle hops, citrus peel, clove and ripe banana aroma. All of these scents are very faint and much less prominent than in other German wheat beers. Kind of smells like a bland version of the style with some dirt thrown in.

Pretty carbonated for the style that adds a pleasant effervescence. Watered down light body with slight earthy hops and citrus peel. Decent amount of clove spice and a good amount of ripe banana.

This beer is a bland version of a style that I usually love. Kind of disappointing really but good for pounding down in the warmer months. (850 characters)

Bottle poured into weizen
Four finger soapy head, and just like they say, "crystal clear."

Smell: malt, not much else

Taste: Barely anything except wet grass.

Mouthfeel: Watery!!

This is the weakest beer in Erdinger's portfolio. I wouldn't recommend it. Try Urweisse or the Dunkel, if you want something different. I may try this again, but only if on tap. (360 characters)

Side-by-side comparison with their hefeweizen... half-liter German bottle, unpasteurized with a near-expired freshness date. The beer is crystal-clear gold, with lots of carbonation and three fingers of white head that retains well and laces nicely. Lightly sweet in the nose, with fruits, bubblegum and hints of wheat. The flavor is very fruity, with bubblegum, bready malts, and some late grassy hops. It has a light, dry, not-quite-tingly body that leaves a short finish. Interesting - tastes decent but doesn't really remind me a whole lot of a kristall. As to the comparisons with the hefe, this one looks much better, but the other tastes more authentic. Neither are great, and they both garnered the same score (granted for different reasons), but the prices are low enough to consider sampling them. (807 characters)

Poured clear and light yellow color. Nice inch and a half white head. Diminished quickly with next to no lacing.

Smells like bread or dough. Very faint however.

Tastes like yeast and faint banana. Not much depth of flavor. Very short finish.

Moderate carbonation and a very thin mouthfeel.

I might drink this beer after mowing my lawn on a really hot day, but that is about the only time. (393 characters)

A- beautiful golden clear body with billowy head and mots of carbonation

S- Malthus and a little skunky. Smells like a euro lager.

T- hmmm this one is tough to rate. Some malt and grain notes. Some weird off taste in the back of my pallet that I cant distinguish except its not pleasant.

M- acceptable for the style

O- disappointed with this german offering. Don't care to try again. (387 characters)

A- Pours a clear golden yellow, with a large foamy white head and light lacing
S- A slight fruit smell and somewhat bready.
T/M- Taste starts out like a lager with a hops and malt, but finishes with a wheat aftertaste. The beer seems to be a little overly carbonated.
D- This was not bad; I have others from the brewery that was better. Would not turn it down, but would not go out and buy it again. (399 characters)

500ml bottle pours a beautiful clear canary color with a huge, rocky, white head that sticks around forever before fading to ring and sheet lacing. Very impressive to view. Aroma is, well, hmmm. If there is an aroma, it's faint hints of grass and pale malts. Mouthfeel is average, being light bodied and very carbonated. Taste is puzzling. Basically, there is none to speak of, other than faint lemony citrus, wheat, and something metallic. It's very refreshing, for sure, and is easily drinkable with no offnotes. Very disappointing considering how impressive it looks in the glass. I could easily guzzle a few of these, if I were thirsty, but I could satisy my thirst a lot cheaper with Miller Lite or water. (710 characters)

Vibrant pale gold pour, with a large but quickly fading head.
Light aroma, hints of pears and banana, some spicy noble hops, but really quite faint.
Flavours are similarly faint, some bready wheat and the slightest banana, with some grainy malt creeping in as well.
Carbonation is way over the top. Very prickly. (312 characters)

Poured from a 500 ml. bottle into a weizen glass. Pours a clear golden straw with a full inch plus of soapy white head. Head settles slowly and throws off some good lacing.

Nose has wheat and yeast on the nose but is otherwise lacking for the style. A bit of ripe banana exists but is well hidden and subtle and comes with a bit of cloaking malts. A perky carbonation continues. Some noble hops and wheat hide a lager like sense. Feel is more full bodied however giving the beer a decent feel and drink. Unexciting in the taste department, this beer is a bit of a wanderer. Think Weihenstephaner. (597 characters)

Don't misinterpret my scores here; There is nothing wrong with this beer. Its just a little plain for my tastes, and if I was looking for a beer like this, I would choose a Hefe and get a little more flavor.
Pours a Cristal clear golden color, with great carbonation and moderate white head. Smell is distinctly crisp and hoppy. Taste is fine - slightly lemony, very lightly spicy. Nothing to complain about. A good beer, but I just don't get excited about it. (461 characters)

Damn, I was expecting more from this beer. It's a good brew in all aspects, with the exception of the most important: Taste. Poured out to a nice golden color with medium high carbonation and medium lace notes around the glass. Not much of an aroma, but minor hints of grain and some sweetness. Taste was just... bland. It's missing character. Some citrus notes and hints of grain and grass, but just as i'm starting to get a feel for it, it's gone. Finished crisp and clean. Good drinkability, but the addition of solid flavors would really be a perk in this brews corner. I must imagine there are better Kristal Weizens out there. Still worth a try. (651 characters)

Fairly persistant white head on a clear gold body. Not very unique. Smell is somewhat average, a little like corn. Taste is seet then butter with a hint of hops in the aftertaste. Fairly good mouthfeel and carbonation. Leaves a slight pasty feeling on the palate. Drinkable, with a medium body. Worth drinking. (310 characters)

A - Very light clear golf, bubbly white head and fierce effevescence.
S - Sweet and quite metallic with bits of sourness. Not strong smelling.
T - Very light tasting, smooth. Some wheat and straw tastes detectable. Almost no significant tastes whatsoever.
M - Very light bodied, overcarbonated.
D - I could drink it all day, but water is cheaper. (346 characters)

Pours clear pale golden with large white head that rather soon fades to white patches, some downsliding lacing. Aroma is grain with some spice, citrus.

It seems more subdued that other Kristalweizens - watery citrus, mild sweetness and faint hops. I would give it 2.5 if not for pleasant clove that was felt later in the glass. Mouthfeel is light, pleasant prickly carbonation.

Overall, I did not enjoy this beer too much. (424 characters)

This was a disappointing beer from Erdinger as it lacks flavor in my opinion. It poured a huge rocky, frothy white head with a carbonated and clear body with a yellow-gold hue. The nose consisted of malt, banana and clove. The flavor was sweet with a smooth and thin mouthfeel. (277 characters)

Ah, good old Erdinger. The only bar worth going to in all of Korea has Erdinger Weisse, Dunkelweiss and Kristal on tap all the time and I needed all three to make it through my stint in the Hermit Kingdom. God bless the 3 Alley Pub. Found a half litre bottle at Shoreline Beverage in Huntington, NY.
Pours a classic Hefe look, if a bit less cloudy but with the pale wheaty look and solid waft of foam. The smell is grainy and sweet but otherwise fairly bland. A bit of a citrus note also is detected but not exactly bursting with aroma, is she?
Taste is yeasty and fresh but without that knockout wheat and citrus flavor you get from conventional cloudy wheat beers. A bit of a metallic tase as well. Mouthfeel is crisp and a bit overcarbonated.
This is slightly disappointing. I enjoy a good Hefe but this is not quite the real thing. Worth a try but I'll be sticking with the cloudy stuff from here on out. (914 characters)

Poured into a Franziskaner weizen glass. Crystal clear (imagine that) and gold in color. No matter how slow I pour, the head billows up to ridiculous proportions.

Smell is pilsener-esque, with a little wheat character. Mainly sweet and grainy.

Mellow banana flavor, with faint clove and sweet malt. There's also a metallic note that probably shouldn't be there.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and clean, but the carbonation is over the top. Pretty refreshing and drinkable. (472 characters)

Bought at the Carrefour in Varna, Bulgaria, along with a bunch of other beers I never thought I'd see in this country.

Poured from the 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

A: Uncontrollably huge head on this one, even with a careful pour. The beer is a light gold color that is, as the label suggests, Crystal Clear. The pure white head dies down within a minute, leaving some lacing on the glass.

S: The aroma is nothing to write home about, being somewhat faint in my opinion. What is there reveals some typically weiss characteristics, citrusy with a touch of yeast. Spice character is subdued, as with other kristallweizens. Overall, very clean.

T: Fisrt taste is surprisingly balanced, with a touch of malt in there, as well as some honey. Finishes fresh with a lot of light fruits and slight spice.

M: Pretty smooth, though also somewhat thin.

D: This is a solid beer with a nice fresh character. A good summer beer, but not something I'd go out of my way for again... (978 characters)
