2nd to last obscure style left to review...here goes.

Poured into a curvy Schwelmer Weizen glass, though not as top-heavy as an Erdinger glass, it will have to do. Intensely rapid trails of carbonation, four fingers of sparkling foam on a careful pour. The carbonation bubbles look larger than most, tiny perfect spheres. Surface of the foam begins to resemble a fried egg as the foam sticks to the edges, with it's circular center raised in the middle. The fluffy head has maximum staying power. I'm missing the cloudy goodness of an unfiltered Hefe already though.

Aroma reminds me of a Berliner Weisse, straightforward wheat, some dustiness and mineral notes, no banana. Flavor is fairly pedestrian, a light dusty sweetness with a bare hint of banana aftertaste and papery oxidation. Carbonation is rapid and prickly. Very quenching for a summer day. I'd revisit this in hopes of a fresher sample someday.

500 ml bottle at a German restaurant, on to the beer:

Lots of bubbles rise through this straw blonde colored beer to the top of the creamy fluffy head. It smells "plain". A little wheat malt sweetness in there, and not much else. Tastewise, it has that aroma sweetness, but it is more intense. Sweet like honey creackers, pie crust, and grape nuts. It has a high carbonated feel, like a sparkling beverage. I actually found that part to be refreshing for this style.

Sometimes, less is more. Take out the yeast of an Erdinger Hefeweizen, and this becomes a little more interesting.

Poured into a nonic, for lack of weizen glass.

A: Clear light golden brew with a HUGE 3 finger white head that sticks around for the whole session.
S: Inviting fresh aroma; metallic and a grainy/wheat smell.
T: Banana, metallic, and crisp wheat right off the bat. Wet grains, some light spices in and out of the glass, and sometimes, there were flavors of absolutely nothing.
M: Lighter-bodied with tons of great, refreshing carbonation.
D: This beer is so pleasant to drink. Though I prefer unfiltered wheat styles, I look forward to buying a few of these for the hot Cali summer!

Served in a Franziskaner glass at 10.1°C (approx 50°F)

A: Crystal clear (as the name suggests), yellow liquid. You can see right through it. Love the color! Very fluffy white head, which lasts the entire review and longer. Beautiful!

S: Malted wheat, yeast, banana and perhaps some mandarin orange. Much more like a Hefe than a Kristall, but still good.

T: A little like a lager actually. Wheat malt, little hop aroma and VERY sweet. Almost like vanilla. Actually, there's a lot of vanilla aromas in this. Nice, but a bit too much on the sweeter side than expected.

M: The head makes it thick, creamy and fluffy, however the body is quite light (maybe medium). Once again, a bit too sweet

D: Very easily drinkable, even flow of CO2 and a smooth and thirst quenching satisfaction. Perfect summer brew

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a .5L stein.

Appearance: poured a very clear, yellowy orange light color. Yielded a nice 2 finger head that dissapated quickly. No lacing present.

Smell: Smells much different than typical german hefeweizens. Very little malty character came through and there was a distinct soapy almost detergent aroma comming through. Still it was fresh smelling and nice, just not typcial for the other german hefes ive had.

Taste: Tastes pretty good. Not overpowering or memorable by any means. Sorta a typical run of the mill german hefe. Fresh tasting and very light, even for this style.

Mouthfeel: Although it yielded a decent head, it dissapated quickly which threw me off as to why this beer was so carbonated. Its a little too much for me, but its got nice texture.

Drinkability: Easy drinking, goes down smooth. Nothing crazy here, but its a terrific replacement for bud light or whatever run of the mill football or sports beer there is. Good session, but there are betting ones out there for sure.

16.9oz bottle

Pours a clear yellow orange color with a large white head that leaves some soapy sticking. Soft but sparkling nose of lemon seltzer, citrus peel and smooth toasty wheat. Bright in flavor, toasted wheat with a larger than expected hop character throughout especially late palate. The aftertaste really hurts this beer for me, cidery sweet red apple notes moving into a machine type of funk. Very light in body with lots of lively carbonation, all and all a very drinkable beer.

A: Huge three finger foamy head on tpo of a pale golden translucent pour, not much lacing.

S: Not much on the nose, slight metallic and grain.

T: Sweet up front, then a hint of banana. Finish is of light citrus and floral hops.

M: light to medium body and high carbonation.

D: Could drink a lot of this, nice cleansing finish.

A - Very light clear golf, bubbly white head and fierce effevescence.
S - Sweet and quite metallic with bits of sourness. Not strong smelling.
T - Very light tasting, smooth. Some wheat and straw tastes detectable. Almost no significant tastes whatsoever.
M - Very light bodied, overcarbonated.
D - I could drink it all day, but water is cheaper.

This looks great in my Erdinger glass. A big frothy head that has great retention. Very obvious carbonation. Crystal clear golden colour.

The aromas are a bit clean for my liking. Grain and not a lot else. I was hoping for some more phenolics perhaps.

A bit of the phenolics come through on the palate. Some malt. Very drying. A bit of spiciness at the back.

Medium bodied.

A good refreshing wheat beer.

Erdinger Kristallklar is a pale golden ale that is, in fact, crystal clear. The white head is huge and pillowy and leaves wonderful fuzzy navel lacing. The aroma is smart and tart. The fruity hops smell like they're from a deep forest. In the mouth, it's a touch thin and gritty. It belies the soft appearance of the head. Smooth, nonetheless. The flavor is simple hops and a light but meaty grain that ends up a bit grassy tasting. There is a candy-like aftertaste-- like Sweet Tarts. Dare I say it's malic? It tastes like a handful of Runts candy-- leaving the banana ones in. I'm fussy with wheat beers but this one is really mature and refined... and crystal clear!

Serving was from a 16oz. bottle that was a month past it's sell by date (guess that's why it was on sale)

Clear, yellow color with great foamy head and good lacing - a good looking beer. Aroma was pretty faint, just a hint of citrus. Fairly thin body with some nice sweetness that gives way to a bit of bitterness before finishing fast and clean. Overall, a very drinkable if not terribly flavorful beer.

This tastes like a German's take on a Bud Light with more wheat. Pours fizzy yellow with an oversized white head. Corn, wheat, sugar, and metal in the aroma. Wheat with very little bubblegum and clove flavors which quickly disappear for a lager-like finish.

It is a very bright hay gold color with good lacing and a nice white head. It has a strong weizen aroma. The usual cloves banana, cloves and spices. The taste strongly resembles the smell except there are some citrus and floral esters from the hops. The mouthfeel is fizzy with a little burn and pretty light. It is to drink and a great anytime beer.

Appearance: Pale golden color, typical of a kristalweizen with a nice frothy-ish head that has decent retention. Looks like the style. Good so far.

Aroma: Mild aroma..banana, cloves, some lemon. A pretty soft aroma really. Expected from this style

Taste: Pretty light, some lemon, some banana and cloves. Much milder than the hefe version, as it should be.

Mouthfeel: Clean, nice carbonation lending itself to crispness. Goes down well.

Drinkability: Good, considering the style. Light and refreshing.

Overall, I would prefer the Weihenstephaner version over this one, which is much softer on the palate. This one is still pretty good though

Pours a very nice clear golden color with great initial head, that rapidly diminishes to almost nothing, and a little bit of lacing, not bad for a wheat beer.

It has a subtle aroma, very nice, very malty and sweet, with slight fruity/sugary tones to it.

Very nice taste, a crisp and clean, well balanced beer with the types of grain used. A very nice, light hint of banana-clove, just enough to taste.

This is a near smooth and sweet tasting beer, very refreshing. It would be great to cool down with.

Bright golden colour with white head.

Distinct banana smell. Not many other flavours really shine through.

Spicy taste of banana and cloves. The taste is brought forward by the carbonation which I feel is just on the right level for this type of beer.

This was a pleasant surprise. I was not expecting such a highly drinkable beer and I can honestly say that I prefer this one over both the Erdinger dunkelweizen and their hefe.

Appearance poured a light golden straw color with a thick healthy head. Smell is like bread dough sweetened with light honey. Taste is lightly sweet and spicey with a hint of banana. Mouthfeel is light and creamy with good carbonation. This is one beer I would drink on a warm evening simply sipping and enjoying.

Poured from 16.9 oz bottle into weizen glass.

A - Pale, clear yellow with 4 fingers or more of head. Decent retention and some minimal lacing.

S - Slight banana with strong phenols. Mild wheat malt shows up briefly.

T - Banana is faint early on, but by mid to late palate bubblegum/phenolic taste is dominate. Smooths out for the finish.

M - Highly carbonated and pretty thin. Solid but nothing awesome.

D - An easy, but boring and expensive beer to kill a night with.

Single bottle just purchased from Buy Rite on Oak Tree in South Plainfield...
Pours a light, golden-colored hue that strongly resembled applejuice...
Moderate head with a minimal amount of lacing...
Subtle aroma rendolent of cloves, bananas, and citrus with apparent carbonation bubbling...
Taste replete with lemons, honey, and a slight hint of oranges... Spritzy, seltzer-like mouthfeel with a slight pepperish bite to match...
Nice mouthfeel - crisp and clean with a good level of drinkablity...
Not bad...

A decent little beer that could be easily confused with a Pilsner with too many esters. The wheat malt makes for a full flavored beer with strong wheat sweetness and a fresh, raw grain flavor. Bready, peppery, and lemony from nose to finish. Hints of bubble-gum, bananna , and clove dance in the background, but never gain prominence. Light hopping allows the grain / bread flavors to become dominant. Lightly acidic and carbonic to the mouth with a clean, refreshing finish. A lingering grain flavor keeps me from giving this beer more of a nod.

Best by 01-2009, poured into weizen glass (without any wedges thrown in):

Pours bright golden yellow - filtered, as the style calls for - with a huge white head that condenses to a lasting cover. Some lines of lacing stretch down the glass.

The smell is of banana/clove, wheat tang, some floral/lemony notes. Nice aroma, especially considering the yeast is not there.

The taste is light, as should be for the style. Sweetness with a wheat tang. Pretty crisp finish.

Light-bodied, with a touch of prickly carbonation.

An easy-drinking thirst-quencher here. Balanced enough not to need lemon-wedges (as this is the style that Bavarians used to put it into, and some Americans think they need to do with HW's.)

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of wheat, lemon, light malts, some spice and a little bit of hops.

T: The taste starts with a light wheat flavor up front and some background flavors of lemon and spice. There's a light malt character that brings in a mild sweetness. The hops presence is also mild but provides a good balance. However, there is a little bit of a metallic bite that sneaks in occasionally. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and very crisp, light body, medium carbonation, finish is very clean.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not filling at all, decent kick, very good representation of style, this is good beer to drink for a long time especially if you're in the mood for something light that still has some substance to it.

Side-by-side comparison with their hefeweizen... half-liter German bottle, unpasteurized with a near-expired freshness date. The beer is crystal-clear gold, with lots of carbonation and three fingers of white head that retains well and laces nicely. Lightly sweet in the nose, with fruits, bubblegum and hints of wheat. The flavor is very fruity, with bubblegum, bready malts, and some late grassy hops. It has a light, dry, not-quite-tingly body that leaves a short finish. Interesting - tastes decent but doesn't really remind me a whole lot of a kristall. As to the comparisons with the hefe, this one looks much better, but the other tastes more authentic. Neither are great, and they both garnered the same score (granted for different reasons), but the prices are low enough to consider sampling them.

1 pint, 0.9 oz bottle poured into a Weizen glass.

A = Very clear, golden yellow, large white head with good retention, lots of medium and small carbonation bubbles.

S = Crisp light scents of fresh grains, light fruits bananas, lemons, and light hops, as it warms gets some more yeast phenols showing through. Pleasant smells, but too subdued.

T = Very refreshing, lemon tastes blend with white toast, very subdued banana pudding in the background, subdued but present yeast phenols show up mid-palate, nice dry finish.

M = Medium-light body, good mouthcoating, good amount of carbonation.

D = Very easy drinking and refreshing. Good drinkability, especially on a hot Summer day.
