A - Pale yellow colouring, similar to a lager.

S - Grass like sweet fragrance.

T - Sweet, decent amount of wheat coming through on it.

M - Fizzy, maybe a little harsh on the tongue.

O - A decent beer in the Erdinger range but not one of the best. Drinkable, enjoyable but I find it somewhat uninteresting.

Best by March 2014

Pours a golden straw color with a slight haze to it, good sized white head, fades at a moderate pace with hardly any lacing.

Smell has a sweet malt aroma, slightly grassy notes.

Taste starts out with a sweet malt flavor with hints of banana fruitiness, a decent grassy like bitterness follows, carbonation is on the high side but helps lend a dry finish necessary for this beer.

500ml Bottle from Tesco (£2.19):
Clear amber to gold colour with a thumb sized head that is full of fairly large, rough looking bubbles that settle to a thing lacing on the top of the beer that starts to turn patchy.

Light with some wheat and faint grassy hops, almost coming across as a pale lager in places as apposed to a wheat beer. This soon passes with some citrus and light banana followed by some background malts and bread.

Wheat, malts and banana start things off, with the latter coming through stronger than it did in the nose. There is some cloves, a light citrus taste and touches of bread too, plus some background fruits.

Lively with a fairly good balance and a medium body with a very slightly sticky mouthfeel. The beer was quite an easy one to drink although it did come across as a little bland in places.

Quite a strange beer initially and started almost like a pale lager with light malts and very faint grassy hops before the kristalweizen in it started to shine through. Not a bad effort overall but there are certainly better, and more readily available, Erdinger beers out there to be had.

From an Erdinger five bottle gift set which came with the glass I used to drink this. Not 100% sure this is the same beer others have reviewed here, the silver-colored label reads "Weizen/Kristall" all in large script lettering on two lines, while the small middle strip label is blue and reads "Prickelnd Frischer/Weissbiergenuss." The beer itself was a darker gold than other reviews have noted.

Poured into an Erdinger Weissbier glass from the 16.9 oz. bottle.

a: Deep clear gold with a tall white head which dissipated slowly to thin surface foam and spotty lacing.

t: Wheat malt well balanced. Went well with oven baked chicken dinner.

m: Medium, more body than most weissbiers, perhaps from Crystal malting if that's what "Kristall" refers to rather than simply the clarity.

o: Exceptional and enjoyable to the end.

Scent is sweet bready. Pours very pale ,slightly hazy, yellow with very full and thick white head. Head lasts well and laces the glass in fine drapery to the bottom! Taste is crisp, honey lemon and biscuits. Very fine carbonation, no bitterness at all! Highly enjoyable.

Poured out of a bottle. Extremely carbonated, tough to pour without a big fluffy head that sticks around unless touched, then quickly shrinks. Pure white color on top, beautiful, but unfortunately matches with a Miller Lite- like color.

I am terrible at picking out smells but this smells slightly fruity and a bit unusual, in a good way.

Goes down so, so, so easy. Very drinkable. Smooth. No bitterness. Light beery flavor. One of my favorites for hot weather and grilled food.

500ml bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a crystal clear gold with a huge fluffy white head. Unfortunately, the head retention is quite poor and it also leaves not a trace of lacing as it fades.

Aroma of orange peel, lemon, and a hint of caramel and toast. A tiny bit of clove and bubblegum as well.

The flavors are somewhat muted but there are notes of orange and clove along with more caramel. Mouthfeel is very full and slick as is typical for the style but the finish is a bit of the sticky side. Nice lively carbonation.

Overall, a decent wheat beer but far from the best I have had. Nice to pick up every once and a while for a change of pace.

Best before 2/2014.

Pours a clear light gold with a foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, sugar, and slight fruity aromas. Taste is much the same with grain and slight fruit flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and somewhat medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is pretty lacking in traditional weizen aromas and flavors, even for the style.

A big two and half fingers of head on a hazy, straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma is banana bread and orange, faint overall.
The taste is moderately bitter with a light fruit sweetness and a banana finish.
Crisp texture with moderate carbonation and medium body.
This is a great kristalweizen.

Poured from a 550 ml bottle into a tulip fluted glass, best by 07-2012. This pours a massive head, in fact the entire 18oz glass if nothing but head right now, as it dissipates it turns a clear pale light yellow color. The smells are of yeast esters, banana and wheat. The feel is mostly light. The taste is okay, its pretty light and refreshing, but light taste and no hop presence, not enough flavors for my usual preference. Perhaps this would be okay on a warm summer day.

Pours a clear yellow with a full white head. Decent carbonation, and the head seems to linger a bit.

Smells like a typical wheat beer, malty up front with hints of banana and pepper spice.

Malty up front, then a bit of banana and clove. Also has a hint of citrus.

Feel is pretty nice, although there is a lot of carbonation, adds a bit of a tingle to it.

Not the best wheat beer I've tried, but not bad either. It is refreshing, and has enough flavor to keep me wanting more. A good summer beer.

A- beautiful golden clear body with billowy head and mots of carbonation

S- Malthus and a little skunky. Smells like a euro lager.

T- hmmm this one is tough to rate. Some malt and grain notes. Some weird off taste in the back of my pallet that I cant distinguish except its not pleasant.

M- acceptable for the style

O- disappointed with this german offering. Don't care to try again.

Bottle poured into weizen
Four finger soapy head, and just like they say, "crystal clear."

Smell: malt, not much else

Taste: Barely anything except wet grass.

Mouthfeel: Watery!!

This is the weakest beer in Erdinger's portfolio. I wouldn't recommend it. Try Urweisse or the Dunkel, if you want something different. I may try this again, but only if on tap.

Pours a clear bright gold body with a smallish white head that is held aloft for a long time by highly active carbonation that gives the whole beer a very lively appearance. Aromas and and taste are perfectly aligned: predominantly grainy (but nearly as "wheaty" as the average hefeweizen) with very gentle hops. Lightly sweet, but overall just not very interesting to dissect. Its strongest point is its texture, which starts off tingly before breaking into a creamier mass of bubbles.

From my beer journal. Originally reviewed on June 7, 2011.

A: Straw light gold color. Extremely clear. Fluffy light white head with nice lacing. 1 finger sticks around.

S: Cloves and lemons with some nice malts.

T: Cloves and citrus dominate. Light wheaty flavor. Actually has a bit of a bite on the tail end.

M: Light body, but not as carbonated as weihenstephaner.

O: Not bad, but I prefer Weihenstephaner if I had to pick a Kristalweizen

Deep gold, huge white head steadily shrinks to rich, foamy ring, some lace.

Aroma is lots of fruity grain, apple, light yeasty bread dough, light herb and hint of mineral.

Taste is light, crisp fruity grain, dough, apple, apple peel, hints of herb, lemon and mineral – all very light and ultimately mostly dominated by mineral, apple and hint of grassy citrus, with the finish being mostly mineral and apple. It has a nice, zesty feel, is light and crisp. Character is light and rather simple, but it’s very pleasant and drinkable, with enough body and character to keep it going.

Poured from the bottle into a mug at Biergarten Haus DC.

Giant head off the pour just like a Hefeweizen that is white and thick. Big retention almost rock hard but gets a little soapy. Good looking carbonation from the bottom, pale gold/straw body with good sticky lacing while drinking. Yup this looks good.

Bouquet is kind of small but good. Small malts it seems but typical lemon and banana. THis seems also a little powdery and dry.

Taste and feel is a little bit gaseous and off putting. Big prickly carbonation masking some of the banana flavor, crispness dry cracker a little but mostly gaseous on the finish.

Overall it seems okay to me but not something I'd want to have again.

500ml bottle poured into an Erdinger weizen glass by freshness date.

The pour produces transparent bright gold color with thick frothy white head and with good retention. It falls to thin foamy layer and leaves some patches of lace along the glass-side, rather high carbonation.

Malt predominates with akin breadiness, subtle on banana, yeast and clove yet with a hint of floral.

Light on fruity ester, malt is there with a sharp wheat and a bready sweet. Citrus zest moderately flares along with ghost-like bitterness from hop and some spice from clove. Finish is sweet by a clean maltiness.

The body is medium, smooth mouthfeel with a stellar crisp from lively carbonation, dry and clean finish.

It’s a pretty good brew that still have some vitality and gusto even being filtered.

Best before 9-2011.

Poured into a pilsner: Transparent apple juice yellow with plenty of small, fast nucleation bubbles. Shiny. Four fingers of sudsy, large-beaded head with some nice rising action.

Never would have guessed this was a wheat by the smell: slighty mineral, musty lager smell with a little apple & lemon tartness.

Taste follows suit, like a cross between a mild apple cider or even sparkling apple juice & a basement-y helles. Some sugars in the aftertaste, but with a dry, seltzer kind of center.

Active, crisp & a little tingly, not too far from champagne. A little on the sharp side, but not too bad.

Reminded me a lot of some Euro pale lagers I've had, & again with a character not unlike champagne. I miss the smooth creaminess of a traditional hefe, though this will do. Nothing too challenging about it, easy enough to drink, though I'm not sure I'd jump at the chance to try it again.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pt 0.9oz bottle into a weizen glass. The bottle has a freshness date but no abv%.

Appearance: The body is clear, golden yellow in color and toped off with a tall loosely packed head. Most of the larger bubbles settle out quickly leaving a thin creamy covering. This holds on well and makes some slick lacing which slides right down the glass as I drink.

Smell: Its nose is lighter than most wheat beers but offers some mild fruity wheat with light notes of clove, banana and hop spice.

Taste/Palate: The flavor starts with a base of light grain and wheat mixed with mild notes of clove and fruity yeast. There is only a slight banana note and mild sweetness. Hops add a nice floral spice and crisp dryness to the neutral finish. On the tongue it has a fairly crisp light feel with balanced carbonation.

Notes: Its very drinkable with good clean wheat beer flavor.

Bottle into Erdinger Weisbier pint glass (how apt!). My bottle displays its name as simply "Kristall", but the ABV and labels match.

A: Pours a hazy but transparent yellow-gold with a thin head of fair retention and little cream. Generally appealing.

Sm: Musty one-note scent of malted barley. A poor aroma, but thankfully a light one.

T: As lacking as the smell. One empty open to a single generic note of barley with a lacking finish. Poorly balanced and poorly constructed. A bit of vanilla on the finish - strange for this style.

Mf: Lumpy. No joke. Far too heavy on the tongue for how little flavour its taste contains. A bit overcarbonated. Too smooth. It's almost got the thickness of syrup without the sweetness. Alarmingly dense. By far the worst part of this beer (and hitherto the worst characteristic of any Erdinger brew I've ever tasted). There's a hint of coarseness on the finish which is kind of nice.

Dr: Won't buy it again, won't have it again, won't speak of it again. A damned disappointment for Erdinger. Not bad tasting, just empty. It should be said that it hides its ABV well, however

.5L Euro bottle with a clearly marked freshness date.

Clear and golden with a nice head of white frothiness atop.

Lots of grainy wheat and warm bread notes with a cutting lemongrass hoppiness and very mild yeast-derived notes of vanilla and clove. Clean and flavorful. Could be mistaken for a well-made German lager if not for the distinctive wheatiness.

An easy drinker to start the day off.
