Tasted this beer by a half-pint at my local Wetherspoon's pub in East End London. Said to be brewed with Cascade, Centennial and Fuggles hops and four malts, this beer was a one-off in summer 2004 but proved so popular it's now brewed permanently...
A: pours a slightly hazy, light-chestnut colour; the head is loosely composed but stays for some time, while the carbonation is non-existent.
S: upfront a peach+lychee-themed perfumy and furity nose, against a mildly-sweet malty backdrop; a little sweetened orange-peel or other citrus fruit's zesty aroma combines with the fruit esters to produce a quite fruity and hoppy note, but overall not very pronounced and the aroma stays a bit low.
T: soft, pale malt flavour upfront, underlined by an overly smooth, juice-like fruity texture. A mildly bitter taste sustains at the back, a bit like sweetened black tea's aftertaste, leaving mild bitterness and lingering, fruity (softly citrusy) hop flavour towards the finish.
M&D: the mouthfeel tells me the beer is about to expire--too smooth and nearly flat, without any lively texture what-so-ever, thus compromising the presumably more enjoyable flavour. Given its condition as I drank it, it's not quite enjoyable, but definitely shows the potential to be more complex and tasty when it's fresher... Worth revisiting in the future.
