On cask at the GBBF, 2011.

Bright gold with lumpy froth and clumpy lace. Mad grapefruity nose with maybe a speck of fresh croissant underneath.
Unripe honeydew and breadcrumbs, then lean, bitter citrus hops.
Grapefruit Slushie comeback and dry linger. Light, crisp, clingy.

One of the new order of hoppy British blondes. A miracle at 3.6%. America, are you listening?
(And how do I brew this myself?)

Served far too warm at the Dean Swift. (An otherwise good beer pub)

Pale golden pour. Head is small but right for the style and leaves great lace.

Very mild nose of honey coated bran flakes and mild and pleasant yeast.

A very smooth, medium bodied mouthful of bitter nouveau. Slight diacetyl (that may not be present at appropriate cooler temps) that aren't too unkind. Light honey cereal malt with a gentle grassy hop bite. Some oily nuttiness in the aftertaste that lingers long, morish and dry. A great session beer.
(I've been sipping IPAs all night so I'm probs missing some of the more hoppy characters)

I love a fresh cask bitter. It's always a go to style for me. This fits the bill perfectly and brings something unique.

Sampled regularly at the brewery tap ; the Marquis of Granby at Granby.
This beer is an old friend and it's been around for many years now although not really in its present form.
It has a strong local following and in some pubs when the Hophead is put on the lager drinkers just change over.
Occasionally there are slight clarity issues, the brewers put this down to the hopping level which is very high. It's only a slight haze at worst.
Appearance; a very pale beer with good lacing which lasted all the way down.
Smell; a good whiff of citrussy hops
Taste;although loaded with hops it's a well balanced beer and it all holds together very nicely. The taste level is amazing for a beer of only 3.6% ABV
It's extremely drinkable and has become one of my favourite session ales.
I've also sampled this beer from a 5 litre minikeg and my comments would apply equally to that.

Hophead was awarded the Gold in its class in the 2007 SIBA National competition.

Tasted by a pint at the Penderel's Oak, a JDW pub b/w Chancery Lane and Holborn tube stations.

A: pale amber hue, slightly hazy (wondering if the beer is almost gone~~); thin but quite frothy beer head settles slowly and leaves tight lacing.
S: soft citrussy hops followed by apricot-like fruity+flowery scent of juicy hops, on top of a soft bed of lightest pale maltiness. Very pleasant and softly fragrant~~
T: soft, sour-sweet orange-grapefruit zesty hops backed by an underlying flowery hints; a slightly tangy bitterness prevails slowly at the back and lubricates the whole palate... quite restrained in flavour after the mid-taste, but superbly lingering bitter on the sides of the tongue.
M&D: the texture is very creamy due to nice soft fizziness; balanced profile b/w hops and malts, where hops are not so much big on flavour but leave lingering bitterness which makes this beer almost a session type, but it needs a bit more of something to really stand out from the crowd. Plus, there're slight problems with the freshness here, as evinced by the haziness. I could imagine a better and more hoppy performance when it's absolutely fresh. Worth a try.
