I have yet to be really disappointed by a dark ale that has been cask conditioned. This ale is no exception. The ale is a heavy chocolate color with a sticky mocha head. The aroma is nice and smoky . The very smooth conditioned body supports a smooth chocolate and smoked flavor with a somewhat drier malt presence. Very well-balanced with a flash of bitterness in the finish.

Bottom line, I love this beer and the cute blond the serves it. It is my desert on Sunday nights and a capper on others. I think its the best beer USB offers. Lets see why.
The brew pours thick, foamy, and dark. Tan head sits on top of an opaque to black beer.
The smell of roasted malts is prominent with some malt sweetness. A faint hop aroma is slightly detected.
The taste is a whirlwind of chocolate, roasted, coffee, and dark malts. Some dark fruit residual sweetness is there too, like plum or raisins. The bitterness to balance comes from hops and roasted malts. Although a porter doesnt have all these grains, it can display all of these characters, improving its complexity.
The mouthfeel is thick and creamy, but its not overly filling, allow me to order more than my fair share. Pair this beer with dessert, but you dont have to. Its a treat in a glass.

On-cask 8/23/09 at the brewpub Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and a very faint touch of hops.
T: The taste is malty and smoky with flavors of coffee and chocolate. There's a very mild complement of hops that is right where it should be for the style and is enough to provide a nice balance. The after-taste is slightly smoky and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, if you're in the mood for the style this is a nice beer to drink for a while.

was very excited to see they had a cask conditioned porter, for such a small brew pub. had a great dark color, with alot of chocolate, malty, roasty, aroma. taste is similar to look starts with an explosive chocolaty, coffee, roasty mix, not much on the finish. leaves a nice lace on the glass. ive had many times now and cant find to much bad to say, great nitetime beer.

Clearly the best beer at Union Station. This beer and the vanilla bean porter are one and the same for anyone who cares.
Smells up front of sweet, sweet coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Smells like a mocha milk shake.
Taste is sweet and rich and tastes exactly as it smells. Sweet milky coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Would work great as a dessert beer.
Wow! this place isn't a waste of brewing space! One of the better porters i've had. However this beer was just replaced with the vengeance barleywine... But that's for another review

Pours a dark brown/black topped with a two finger chocolate head, leaves thick sheets of lacing.
Sweet, chocolate aroma, carmelized sugar and coffee.
Chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, milk or cream, sweet overall.
Medium-fell, smooth and even served at the right temperature. From a lackluster brewpub but at least they have a porter on cask.

served on cask at the brewpub...
i don't know if they used a sparkler, but this cask beer seemed exceptionally carbonated. black color with tan head. combined with a very stout-like coffee and chocolate flavor, it seriously reminded me of a nitro stout. a bit too thick in the mouthfeel but lots and lots of roasty malt flavor.
i recommend this beer.

The beer was a deep brown in color with a brown-tinged foam head on it that never quite went away. The beer was strong and malty, with the natural carbonation of a good cask conditioned beer. The aftertaste was kind of bland and nothing special. I was actually kind of disappointed. I was expecting more "pow" in the aftertaste because the initial chocolate and malt flavor was actually pretty impresive. However, without a better aftertaste this beer would get "old" fairly quickly.
