Hit this on our 3/19/05 pub hopper. Probably would not have found it if Geoff did not have the building number. We did not see any sign, but there is a mailbox at foot level at the door that does say the name.... Cute and funky music playing in a small area decorated with farmhouse decor. Nice sized bar and a bunch of small tables down the side. Nice selection of beer all separated nicely for you- you can ease your brain a bit by just looking towards a category, not that this makes it easier when there is that many to choose from. The Chalkboard lists the beers out by Flemish/UK/France/Italy/US/Bock.... and wines by white/sparkline/sweet/port. We tried the food and had the mix your cheese and meats, where you can pick from the nice listing of good cheeses, meats, and pate' assortments, $4 each or $10/3. We had the Grafton cheddar, cave aged greyere, Great Hulle Blue, and fontina, along with some good Sopressata that they slice for you behind the bar. They then serve it to you on small wood cutting boards, with a small bowl of sliced crusty bread, and 2 itsy-bitsy bowls of mustard -one wasabi-like heat, and the other a bit sweeter, both very good. The vegetarian pate' I saw going to a nearby table with their "mix", looked quite nice too. There were 2 bartenders while we were there, one very friendly and patient and willing to come back while we pondered choices, the other who made it terribly evident that our kind (beergeeks) were not his kind, and gave Geoff such a look of disdain when he asked if we could have some plates to eat our food with, and when Ev thanked him and gave a very nice tip saying "this is really a great place here", just looked at him and walked away. Well, everyone has their days. All in all, nice selection and even though I chose the bummer beer of our group, it was a pretty cool place.

How on Earth do I not have a review of Spuyten Duyvil down?

Love this place. Have been here so many times and tried so many different beers that I probably would have never been able to. 1984 Boon Mariage Parfait, Cantillon Saint Lamvinus on a hand pump, and on and on and on. The decor is awesome, the selection is thorough (even with the minimal taps) and it's worth a visit if you've never been.

In the hipster-elitist tradition, there's no sign for this place and every beer is super expensive, much like the local's rent. However, if you can afford it, there's plenty of hard-to-find brews. Though hard-to-find COULD be desirable, the quality of these rare brews leaves something to be desired. Many of the beers have sub-90 reviews on Beer Advocate. I don't take my chances on beers over $10. I like the garden in the back. It's a relaxing place to drink a decent craft beer. Doesn't compare to say, Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria, but it's still a nice change of scenery compared with most bars.
