Cat's out of the bag. This coulda been, shoulda been, our secret bar. Someone talked. No sign or indicative marks outside and we even got it set up here with the wrong address but you managed to find it anyway. And everyone knows you can't keep your big trap shut. Now everyone knows. I hope you're happy...
A welcome surprise to our beloved Brooklyn. Located down Metropolitan Avenue between Havermeyer and Havermeyer, just off the BQE, it makes the Friday night Williamsburg walkabout completely doable on foot and the L train stands conveniently in the middle of all this.
There's roughly upwards of a dozen stools along the "L" shaped bar, and an array of tables and chairs of all sizes and shapes along said bar, with a love seat in one front window and a pair of chairs in the other (elevated so that I may survey all that is mine), a few more tables to the rear and out that back door that doesn't seem to close right, they've got a bunch of tables out there, too. Hey!! There's a cozy little patio seating area back a-there. Alright, back inside, you.
6 great taps on a single tower on the bar, a handpump just off that, and a collection of amazing bottles. Belgians broken out by Flemish, Lambic & Walloon. I haven't seen such a selection of Cantillons since Moan & Dove. They had the Cantillon Fou Foune on tap last week, this week they replaced it with my favorite in the Cantillon line, her name is "Iris" ("You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be and I don't want to go home right now").
They also had the Fantome Pissenlit, musty, interesting, interesting, interesting. Smaller boards list Germans, English, a few US and other worldly goods. Other boards on the end list wine selections. Shelves of appropriate glassware on the bar back, tulips, snifters, pints, mugs, whatever the beer needs. Jars of different teas on the other side above the espresso maker.
Great jukebox. Pink Floyd "More" for christsake. What more do I need to say? He rolls the selection quarterly, always something Pink Floyd. A good selection of cheeses, meats and pates lend some very interesting choices, plus pickles, beets and other jarred things, and hopefully, the dark Belgian chocolate. The decor is all for sale, the healthy tooth poster, old maps of the world, the framed sorority composite from a school in the 50's, the mounted vintage girls Schwinn bicycle, the old books, the wall of ashtrays, and enough 2 and 3 prong pitchforks for us to successfully take the castle after the next beer, or certainly the one after that. They had a scythe over there in the corner but someone bought it right around Halloween, and I'm glad too, because I joking held it over Phil's head and well, you know, so I think we all learned the "The scythe is not a toy" lesson.
Staff treats me well, service jams. There's just nowhere else I'd prefer to spend my time. Okay. so I know, and you know, and all them people you told, but that's it. Don't tell anybody else.

A nice little pub with a welcoming feel and a fantastic beer garden out back. They have an interesting tap list along with a list of pricy rare beers available for a splurge. I was just in for a quick scouting visit but I plan to come back for a longer stay.
