Awesome little place in Ybor City. Main building set back from the road with a nice, tree filled courtyard in the front. Bar front was open to the courtyard, nice atmosphere. Free jukebox with an awesome selection.

Very decent tap selection, could have had a few more high end beers and a Belgian or two would have been nice. Saw two coolers behind the bar. One with a nice selection of 12oz bottles and another with a decent selection of 750's, mostly Belgian and for about $15 each.

We were too early for food but had a couple of wonderful beers. Loved this place.

So it's not actually a brewery, but it is a beer bar worth checking out in Ybor City. Also got to mention that i went there on a Monday night, so that probably factored into my experience there. I liked the vibe as soon as i walked in. You walk through an outdoor courtyard/beer gardern to get into the bar. There were a few tables occupied outside, and a few more customers inside seated at the bar, but it was not very crowded at all and totally chill. The woman working the bar was friendly and personable, and when we went back outside to sit and take advantage of the 70 degree weather (being from Baltimore in the middle of January), she also was our server. The beer selection is pretty much top notch. I had a Jai Alai, a sweetwater 420, and a Terrapin Wake'n Bake. There were plenty of other options i could have ordered too not distibuted in MD, as well as craft stables like DFH, Bells, etc and imports, esp Belgians. Food was also very good. I had a salad, and my buddy and i split a buffalo chicken pizza. The menu is not huge, but what we ordered was quality for sure. I enjoyed my evening there eating and drinking in a chill atmoshere, and was hoping to make it back before my week in Tampa was done, but was not able to. If i find myself back in the area in the future it will definitely be one of my stops.

Really cool place on the west end of 8th Av. in the Ybor City section of Tampa.
Parking is right next door and only 1/2 a block from city parking if the free is full.

BBQ buffet is available M-F from. 11-3 pm. Priced by the pound - currently $6.50/lb - except on Wednesday night. Good que and plenty of Bottles
The beer selection is really good. 32 taps and over a hundred bottles span the range from Belgians (Scaldis & Corsendonk) to locals like Cigar City. Bottle selection is as broad and delicious as the taps.
The look is really cool with an expansive, shaded outdoor area, a big L-shaped bar and a half dozen tables inside.
So far, this is the best craft beer place in Tampa. Too bad the don't brew their own anymore. C'est la vie.

Review of Visit on 4-22-11

Tucked away just off the strip in Ybor just off 7th Ave. I approach the place with some friends and you have to enter through a gated area in to the patio. Really digging the patio area, its all stone for the for the floor, patio tables with umbrellas picnic tables, a citrus tree or two, and a little fountain in the middle. Crowd is mixed everything from hipsters to a group of middle aged folks having a few beers. Just beyond the patio is the "stage" where they have live music, a local band is doing sound check and setting up their gear as we walk by. Inside I'm loving the character of this place has a bit of a dive feel to it but in a good way. A nice wood bar forms a L along the left and front side wall as you enter. Bartender got to us quickly and was helpful. The tap selection was pretty decent but nothing to rare to blow you away, but plenty of good ol stand byes that you love (Lagunita IPA, Jai Alai, Old Rasputin etc) Good selection of bottles as well. We ordered closed out tabs were served quickly and courteously and headed to the patio. Waitress addressed us said she would be right with us but continually passed us by. We tracked her down at the bar and she said that table service has ended so that was a bit, frustrating...We ordered the johnny bread which was fantasic and the Northstar Pizza which was just as excellent and both were priced fairly. All in other than the issue with the service on the patio this place was great! Right by Spaghetti warehouse so it makes a nice spot to stop in before after a nice dinner and it's just short walk down to Tampa Bay Brewing Company (we made that walk when we departed). This is a cool spot that i recommend to anyone visiting The Bay Area or any Locals looking for a more laid back side of Ybor.

This isn't really a brewery, but they do have one of the better beer selections in Tampa on tap and bottle. Located off the beaten path you get a bit quieter atmosphere than the rowdy main strip. Dimly lit, and open space. They get some very interesting bands that play here. Food is a little above your average bar food, and everything is reasonably priced. Bartender is able to actually talk to you, unlike most of the over-crowded bars in Ybor. This is a nicely hidden jewel if you like good beer.

Not a brewery but great selection and knowledge of beers. A hidden gem of ybor city. Most of the locals know this spot and flock here for great tap selection. We arrived one weeknight when a local brewer and brand were doing a tasting. They had the local brewer on tap that night. Sision not my thing but local home brewer and tasting ... they are doing something right. I've seen a quite birthday party, a crowded comedy night in the cold and rain and a decent band. This place needs to be on your next visit to ybor city. Food selection was lacking but well worth your visit.

This is not a brewery, despite the name. It is just a cool little beer bar, in an area of Ybor City that used to be quite bustling.

This place is super cool, super mellow, and just off the beaten path, in Ybor City terms.

Nice tap selections, perhaps 12-15. Reasonably priced bottles. Balanced selection between craft and import, with most imports tending to be Belgian, which is fine with me.

They frequently have nice entertainment, and usually a relaxed crowd. Some local talent performs, DJs, live art shows, bands from reggae to hip-hop to alt-rock, etc. As I said, usually mellow...

Very cool setting in Ybor City...rustic looking town, old school. Nice patio setting in the front. Seems filled with regulars.

Selection is rather decent for Florida, at least given my experience with Florida bars. One cooler full of 750's and another full of 12oz beers and a few 22's. Cooler stocked with Ommegang, St. Bernardus, Chimay, Vla-Dieu, Karmeliet, Koning, Rochefort, Schneider, Vicotry, La Chouffe, Dogfish, Great Divide, Stone, Leffe, Sam Smith...and many more! Tap selection consisted of Allagash Tripel, Delerium Tremens, Old Rasputin, Lagunitas Pils, Anchor Steam, Magic Hat #9, Turbo Dog, Hop Devil and a few others...good selection! Disappointed there was no Cigar City, but I hear they are behind on production so no fault to the bar.

Bartender was very helpful...knew his stuff. Overall a great experience and would come back if ever in town again.

This is a nice place to hang out and relax after viewing Tampa, Ybor, or any of the surrounding areas for the day. The jukebox is excellent though it was playing songs that weren't listed sometimes which I found a little odd. Good selection of beers and friendly atmosphere at the bar with a number of tables outside for more private conversation.

There was a cover the night I went to pay the bands that were performing, we went in well before the music started and were not charged because we knew one of the bands but they make everyone pay the cover who is already inside as well.

I put this as a bit pricey but it is average for the area, just more expensive than places in a less touristy area.

Atmosphere: Hidden little place in Ybor City with an amazing amount of charm. Visitors are greeted with a courtyard lit by neon signs with tables scattered around and a small fountain trickling peacefully in the middle. Unique signs of beer compaies are randomly scattered around the walls of the outdoor courtyard, which connects seamlessly to a covered patio area. This is connected to the main bar, which is indoors. The indoor decor is very unique, featuring a globe motif, with many unique and historic globes lining the walls and a giant old map of the world painted on the floor. Two foosball tables and an absolutely superb free jukebox serve as the main forms of entertainment, which kept me and my friends occupied for quite a while.

Service: Had a nice conversation with the bartender, who was both quick and knowledgeable about the beer he was serving. There was only one bartender at a time, which held things up a bit, but he was relatively quick with the orders coming to him. The pours were very consistent as well.

Quality: Proper glassware is generally used. Cash only, although they have an ATM inside the building. Very consistent draft pours throughout the night. Very clean place with good AC, even felt out on the patio.

Selection: One of the more thought out selections I've seen in the Tampa Bay area. I worked my way up from a Dale's Pale Ale to Lagunitas Censored to Chimay Cinq Cents to Old Rasputin, all of which were on tap, along with about 20 others. There is a wide bottle selection, consisting of mostly 750mL bottles but offering a seemingly very diverse selection of styles and breweries. There is a comprehensive menu available that shows you the draft and bottle choices available.

Food: There is a restaurant attached but it is only open during the day, so I wasn't able to sample the food there. I had a look at the menu, and it seemed like they had a good selection.

Value: I've seen better prices elsewhere in the country, but in Ybor, you can't really beat New World for their selection, service, and atmosphere. Even though I paid about a dollar more than in most places, there were also many choices available to me that I hadn't seen elsewhere in the region. In that respect I think it's a good value. The 8oz/25cL serving of the Belgians on tap were around 6$, which is definitely high... although the other offerings were more reasonable, being 4-5$ a pint, depending on the beer.

I'll be coming back here again soon. What a great bar - perfect atmosphere, great beer selection, and knowledgeable bartenders. Awesome place. I'll have to go back dring the day and try their food.

Another great hang out spot in Ybor City. Well worth the stop to whoever is looking for a decent beer selection while in Tampa.

I would say that the outdoor porch beats the Tampa Brewing Co., the place is a little on the outskirts of Ybor's main 7th/8th ave. A little quieter, a lot less traffic and an easy escape route to the Interstate w/o the buzzling Ybor crowd for those who have had that extra drink.
The crowd is usually very young, outgoing ... I never had an issue going there and finding a conversation to jump in.

The staff depending on who is serving is very knowledgable of their beers. They do stock many Belgians and Germans as well as plenty of US microbreweries. As for the selection on tap, they do tend to be the same (Rogue, Lagunitas, Dale, Hoegaarden, Dunedin,..).

Pricewise, I have never eaten there and the beer is fairly reasonable on tap, and a little higher for bottles.

Never thought to wonder why…

I’m not quite sure why I so enjoyed my visit to the New World, but something about this place definitely felt inviting and familiar. When I first walked in, an early Neil Young/Crazy Horse song played on the juke box, followed by an obscure Dylan tune. The place was well air conditioned in spite of the heat outside and the wide open doors to the large outdoor patio. Yet, even the open doors and several ceiling fans could not keep you from noticing the distinctly smoky aroma that permeates the interior of the NWB.

This place has character and, on a Monday night, had a local vibe that appeared to span a few decades. The interior is dimly lit except for the two foosball tables in the corner. There's video golf and even a pinball machine, but what makes this place a destination is the excellent selection of beers, on tap and in bottles.

Among the 25+ beers on tap they offered Double Grimbergen, Delerium Tremens, Old Rasputin, Youngs Oatmeal Stout, Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, Left Coast Apricot Wheat, Hoffbrau Dunkel, Dogfish Head 60 Min, Bell's Amber Ale, and Avery’s New World Porter. In addition, their bottled beer list included another 20, or so, Belgian style beers from the Duchess De Bourgone to Chimay, Merdsous (10, 8), St. Bernardus Abt 12 and American knock offs from Ommegang and Allagash. Other bottled beers included most of your standard American Macros, a good selection of Rogue offerings, Anchor Liberty, Great Divide's IPA and Imperial Stout, as well as, a few choice Germans.

Food is served during the day but primarily limited to appetizers and pizza. The bartenders were friendly and attentive, and the limited staff appeared to handle the relatively small crowd with ease.

During the day, I'd imagine this place may be different, but at night, it’s an old-school hangout with an impressive beer list. You just have to burn your clothes after you leave.

I think most of the previous reviewers have covered the basics here. NWB has a great selection of drafts and bottles, check the chalkboard behind the bar for recent additions & 86s. CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM inside. Excellent, eclectic juke box, too. This is a great stop to make after you've been out at a show or dinner or other bars when you're ready for a real beer. Outside is probably one of the coziest spots in Tampa to quaff. Live music very frequently and a mixed crowd, so the people watching is excellent. Sort of isolated from the rest of Ybor, so you can avoid the fools if you so desire. Oh, and they are dog friendly...another rarity in TPA...."Yappy Hour" on Sundays.

This place comes in a close second behind TB Brewing as far as overall experience, in my opinion. A rather small and quaint place if you take the outdoor seating out of the equation. We walked in and had the locals giving us the once over. I felt like I was intruding their territory. A bit weird. But once inside, the selection was pretty awesome. I chose to have Old Rasputin on draft. They also had other typical micros for the area. The Rasputin was great, but was served in a 10 oz glass. I dont mind the smaller serving size, but I would like to informed of that fact as I order rahter than being surprised. Other beers were in the 16oz pint glasses.

Nice atmosphere outside, which is where we chose to sit. A nice little bubbly fountain with some wooden benches and tables with umbrellas. The weather was great so I was in heaven.

The bar area is quite smokey so beware. Defintely check this out as it is in the middle of everything and just down the street from TB Brewing.

*Not a brewery, just a beer bar.*

They say when in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Tampa, there are a few places that are "required reading" for us students of beer. New World Brewery is "required reading." Located right smack dab in the heart of hip Ybor City, New World offers indoor and outdoor atmosphere with benches, plants a covered deck, some nights they have live bands and it's dog friendly. The overall vibe is done-up warehouse.

Taps were impressive with some friendly regulars like Pilsner Urquell, Nostradamus and Duchesse De Bourgogne. There are some cold boxes behind the bar too.

The tender was quick and friendly. The inside-outside vibe is cool. Proper glassware earned points in my book. Could you bring your Mother here? Only if Mom likes to walk the dog and swig a brew on Sunday afternoon.

Free jukebox, cool decor and though it has diminished slightly still a fantastic beer selection. I really like the pizza too. The Belgian selection used to be freaking amazing. Now it's just good and you will always find a decent Belgian on draft.

My one gripe about this place is that they tend to shun the higher alcohol American Micros. I don't know why, but most of the american micros are all pretty basic low abv stuff. I'd like to see some Avery or DFH on more often since they can get it.

If you aren't into music...go early. It's a very live music focused place.

The name is a bit misleading, as this place has not actually brewed beer for many years. However they offer an excellent selection of draft and bottled beers that more than make up for anything that might be brewed on premise.

New World offers a very eclectic selection of beers, an eclectic crowd, and in a fairly eclectic environment. The beer selection varies from good to outstanding. As I write this review they are the only place in Tampa that I know of with Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale on tap. Mmmmm. Another 15 or so taps include a variety of micros, Belgians, and other good Imports. The beer selection always varies, but never disappoints.

The food menu is limited to pizza, but it is a very good pie of the thin crust variety. Florida state law prohibits smoking in most bars, but with the limited menu here smoking is allowed. A largely bohemian crowd here tends to enjoy the smoke with their brews, but if this turns you off they also have an outstanding outdoor environment to escape to. Lush tropical landscaping and shady scattered tables overlook the quaint Ybor streetcars regularly passing by. It really is by far the nicest outdoor patio of any bar or restaurant in the area that I know of.

Overall an excellent feature of the Tampa beer scene, I highly recommend it.

New World Brewery (don't be confused, they don't actually brew any of their own beer) is a uniquely laid-back indoor/outdoor bar with an exceptional selection of both bottled and draft brews. It is located a few blocks off the main the strip in Ybor City (which is a plus), this is the perfect place for hard to find craft beers, Golden Tee, free juke box and, on many nights, live music.

They have a large assortment of West Coast brews including all the Siera Nevada's, Anchor Brewery, Rogue, and many other Oregon and Washington State varieties.

BE ADVISED - New World Brewery does not accept Credit Cards. They have an ATM machine which only provides bar credit - with a service charge of course - and then they give your change in cash.

Great spot for a BA!

A must stop for the thirsty BA in Tampa/Ybor City.

Selection? Perfect for a BA: 20 on draft on 11/24/03: PaulanerX3, Sierra Nevada, Chimay, Turbo Dog, Rogue Yellow Snow, Anchors Liberty and Steam, Belhaven, St. Bernardus etc etc. Two large fridges of bottles with a great number of Belgians unseen in many places. Fairly decent American representation in bottles, too.

Outdoor beer garden faces the street. Indoor cavernously dark room features free (!?!?!) jukebox with ska and Wilco, Gomez and indie, Taj Mahal and Billie Holliday. Motif of globes pervades every corner. Foosball table. Single TV turned off (unless the Bucs are playing or some such momentous occasion.) Service carried out by a guy who liked to talk beer, and was knowledgable, if a bit, well, proud of himself and his employer. It's not such a bad thing when your choices are this numerous, and we could all afford to lighten up a bit, but no server needs to appear like a beer elitist when there are concerts to be created. Still, food and beverages arrived at a snappy pace with a smile.

Food is limited to pizza. Great, inventive pizza, to be sure, but that's it. There are plenty of places in the area to get other food, if you so desire, but this is the best selection of beer. I'd mention it in the same breath as Papago, Eli Cannon's, the Great Lost Bear, Bukowski etc.

[ Update: July 2004 ]

Good news - 12 new tap lines going in at NWB. Looks like an expanded bottled beer selection from last visit in 03.

The downside - still allow smoking. Service gets bumped down a notch.

Original Review -

New World Brewery, though the name suggests, no longer brews. What’s left though is a fine beer bar. A short walk west on 8th Ave from the Tampa Bay Brewing Company and the Centro Ybor shopping/restaurant/cinema complex. Trees, tables, brick, wrought iron and cobblestone decorate the entry and front beer garden. A covered patio area accommodates some eclectic live music. The inside houses an L shaped bar that serves up several draughts, about a dozen or so quality brews. The bottled selection is quite varied and well thought out, though not terribly extensive. I found some unique (for FL) Belgians on tap (DeKonnick Cuvee) and in bottles last visit. They also have some very good pizza. The vibe here is a bit Bohemian but don’t let that put you off if you’re a khakis and Oxford shirt type (that’s me after work). This place is very accommodating. I had excellent, friendly service each visit. Tables are available inside too. A cool place to check out while in Tampa (along with TBBC).
