Primator, no not a double bock, rather it is a hearty lager from the Czech Republic. This beer pours a fairly deep golden color. The aroma is nice and rich, malty. This is obviously not a Czech style pils, it is very malty, much more than is typical for the style. Initial sweetness leads to a toasty middle and a fairly understated aftertaste with hints of toffee. This is actually a nice beer at any price, but at 99 cents for a half a liter, it is a steal.

Very nice lager, pours a golden yellow with white head that is quite nice to look at, lacing is average. The smell is very malty, slight toasted grain, touch of fruit. The taste is maltier than most lagers, rich but still smooth, goes well with meals, the caramel grains are pleasant, slight hops cleanses the palate, light bodied and great session beer.

I've had good experiences picking up random German and Czech imports from BevMo, and this was no exception.

Pours pretty, stays pretty. Smells grassy and alcoholic, but not bad at all.

Tastes like grassy barley, with a flavor and bitterness that hangs out on your tongue for quite some time after you swallow. Really full for what BA defines as a "pilsner".

It's a beer that you can tell has had some effort put into its crating. This beer has Europe written all over it, and is at a great price, considering they had to get it all the way from Czech Republic to California with a price of $2.39 for a half liter.

500 ml brown bottle with no freshness date. Foiled neck and gold bordered label give the bottle a nice look.

A- Good looking head off of a hard pouring in a 1/2L pilsner glass, bright yellow hue shows of a great clarity and bubbles rising to the top of the glass.

S- Perfume-like spicy hops with a fresh hay like maltiness ... a very pleasing aroma to say the least.

T- A very grassy palate of fresh pale malt, I can pick off a vague earthy and salty character. Hops and to the grassiness with a stand-up spiciness. A tad watery in the back as the malt drops off yet the hops hold strong with a solid bitterness and more spiciness.

M- Strong arm of crispness stays firm yet is not overwhelming.

D- Very easy to put down a few of these.

A good pick for a Czech Pils, right up there with the best of them. I paired this with a smoke sheep's milk cheese(sharp), they went very well together.

Light hop aroma (Saatz) A little malt.

Pours pale gold and perfectly clear. Smallish but persistant head.

Nice interplay of pils malt and bittering hops. Clean and malty but with a nice hop aftertaste.

Pretty much everything you look for in a czech Pils-type lager. Refreshing, bitter but not palate challenging. I could drink a lot of this.

500 ml bottle. A number stamped on the back label. Classy-looking, light-brown bottle.

Pours a clear, light golden. A white head soon dissipates, but patches the glass a bit. Smell is of cut grass. The first taste is a husky, light malt, but soon the taste buds are deluged with mineral - gobs of metallic, heavy well-water flavor. Finishes with a crisp, snappy hops. Tasty indeed. This would pair well with some good, sharp cheese.

This is the maltiest Czech lager I have sampled yet. It pushes the extremes of its other Czech pilsener cousins. All of their characteristics are present, but here the sweet malty aroma and flavor dominates.

The beer pours a beautiful deep golden color with a generous white foamy head forming, lingering, and lacing -- very nice.

The aroma is this beer's weak point, the sweet maltiness dominates and there is very little spicy Saaz hops present.

The taste is full-bodied, chewy, and malty in the fore, but a tad grainy in the finish. Again the hop bitterness is subdued in comparison to Czechvar or Pilsner Urquel.

I enjoyed this beer a lot and it compares favorable to other Czech pilseners, but the malty sweetness would become a bit too cloying if this was a session beer.

A: golden yellow with a bubbly head that dissipates quickly and leaves very little lace

S: beautiful cherry nose with floral hops subtle banana and vanilla aromas

T: nicely balanced grassy, banana and tangy cherry flavour with an alcohol snap

M: creamy, medium body with good carbonation and an oh-so-smooth finish

D: A delicious pilsener from the country who does it best! For me, this is not session beer – it wouldn’t do it justice. I would savour this one slowly.

There are quite a few Czech beers imported to Sweden but unfortunately Systembolaget only include a handfull of them in their ordinary store selection. So since it's a state monopoly one has to order from the importer through Systembolaget and they add an appropritae sales tax. In that way a beer that would cost fifty cents in the store in Prague will set you back 1,50 bucks in Sweden. The things we have to tolerate just to drink beer!

Primator's Premium Lager is a special order beer in Sweden. It poured in a nice, golden color but not with much foam. The taste is great with apple and pear notes, perfume-smelling hops and citrus. The taste did not quite live up to the expectations created by the smell. Nevertheless it's a bitter, bready taste with some sourness and very typical for this type of beer. Maybe too much carbonation, though. All and all, it's a good pilsener that tastes even better a little over-chilled. Very refreshing!

I bought a Mix and Match 6-pack of this at Badger Spirts in Beloit, WI in Summer 2011.

Pours a clear, clean amber color. Has a decent head with an average amount of carbonation. Scent is that of some grassy grains mixed with a slighty amount of citrus. Has a nice texture that isn't too thin or too heavy. Taste is rather wheat like and mellow. Drinks rather well, especially on a hot summer day.

My first trip to Brazil (January 2009) yielded a taste of Primator Premium Lager from my friend, who was told by the bartender that THIS was voted the best lager in the world. I am curious about the competetion, but that doesn't matter now; I have a bottle stateside to experiment with. 500 ml bottle, on to the beer:

I'm leaving a third of my bottle unpored, as there is are a lot of floaties in the bottle. Golden sunshine color, very tiny particles suspended in the body, soapy head on top leaving soem creamy lacing. Crisp green apple hits the nose first. Smell again, more pleasant green apple. Underlying honey notes make things more sunny for the taste.

Thankfully there are no signs of imported flavors. Light biscuity malt at first, then big green apple flavors come into play. Honeysucke...yum. It's doughy as well. Good crispness goes over well in this beer. Some hop bitterenss lingers on in the aftertaste.

If I were to vote that competition that called Primator Premium Lager the best lager in the world, I wouldn't be one to vote that way. But I will say that Primator is a very competent Czech lager. Czech it out.

A - Clear wheat, nice fat small bubbled white head slow to leave. Lots of cling lace.

S - Wheat and sweet malt. Grain. Slight sharpness at finish.

T - Wholesome clean malt and grain features gently bittered.

M - Medium body, good carb, nice balance.

D - Very easy to drink.

A: Pours clear and golden with hints of copper and a fourth inch of head atop that sticks around for awhile and leaves a bit of lacing on the glass as you drink. Carbonation levels look solid. Very inviting for a lager.

S: Toasty malts, vanilla and butter with slight floral hop notes lingering in the background.

T: Follows the aroma quite well. Sweet grains with buttered biscuits, toffee, vanilla and cream give way to a lingering bitterness that morphs into a bittersweet flavor on the tongue after the swallow.

M: Light bodied, smooth and creamy with slight chewiness. Carbonation is tamer than expected. Super sessionable.

O: Honestly one of the better lagers I've had the pleasure of drinking. Simple, but well done. If you're looking for refreshment or drinkability, look no further.

Pours a beautiful amber orange, somewhere 'tween ripe apricot and tangerine. Inch thick head that dissipated quickly. Lovely little bubbles that are fun to watch. Aroma very typical for true euro pils... like standing outside a large brewery on a windy spring day after the rain. Flavor pretty complex for a pils, a little citrusy buckling under the weight of stern hops fading to the normal pleasant euro skunkiness. Crisp and bracing in the mouth, with those lovely little bubbles giving the exact, perfect amount of carbonation. Unlike some others, I could drink a few of these at a time.

Pours gold with an exuberant head of whipped milk.
Nose full of saltines, lilacs, and potatoes.
Begins pale malted and dry. The essense of stale plain bagels. Flashes of sweetness. Ephemeral stawberries and vanilla cream. Now back to dryness, but grassier presently. The last, dying bloom of the May lilac bush. Burnt out patches of August lawn. Wind scattered leaves in early October.
Honeyed pear creeps below.
Light bodied, steady of bead, and firm feeling, flowing freely down the hatch.
This is choice!

This is an outstanding Czech pilsner/lager, beautiful with a full, complex character.

Bright, deep gold, it has a huge, faintly off-white , foamy head, steadily shrinking to a large, permanent head that's never less than 1.5-2 inches, foamy, with nice, if uneven, rings of foamy lace.

The aroma is a wonderful Czech pilsner - firm, full-bodied, clear and aromatic with a lot of bread, herbs, lemon, grain, bread crust, hint of mineral, overall airy and slightly flowery.

The taste is similar, clean, clear, but full-bodied, firm in character, complex, balanced and engaging. It has a strong bread-herb character of bread, herbs, with grain, light lemon, hints of yeast and grass, firm sweetness with balancing, zesty, bitterness, mostly herbal, slightly medicinal, with just a light spicey bite. It has great balance, excellent interplay of the various elements, and a long, complex aftertaste of sweet lightly toasted bread with lemony-herbal bitterness. The feel is excellent, full, slightly oily yet lively and engaging. if becoming slightly thin by the end. It engages the whole mouth.
